First, visit the National Museum of Ethiopia, which contains some of the best and most diverse exhibitions. The archeological exhibitions include Lucy (Dinkinesh, 'beautiful' in the local vernacular), a 3.5 million-year-old Australopithecus Afarensis hominoid woman. In 1974, Lucy's fossil revealed that our ancestors walked 2.5 million years earlier than imagined, rewriting our genealogy. The National Museum features several exquisite pre-Axumite artifacts.

Next, visit St. George's Cathedral. Near the northern end of Churchill Road. The Cathedral, erected in 1896 in the usual octagonal shape to honor Ethiopia's victory over the Italians in the Battle of Adwa, has Afewerk Tekle's stained-glass windows from the Africa Hall.

Drive to Entoto to explore Shiromeda market, one of the main Ethiopian traditional clothing markets. Continue driving to the peak to see Mount Entoto's stunning city view.

Final stop. Stop at Tomoka Coffee! Excellent city coffee. Tour Ends

"Teddy" (Tewodros) and "Prince" (our driver) were so kind. They showed us around their city and explained some of the Ethiopian culture. We had a long, 8-hr layover in the city and this was a perfect tour!

We had a stop over in Addis Abeba with Ethiopian airlines, with hotel paid by the company. We took the chance to have an afternoon tour + dinner with Liyu. It was a wonderful choice. The guides picked us at the hotel and were able to bring us to multiple interesting points in Addis Abeba (Museum, Church, viewpoint and market). They also provided great explanation and were always available for discussing with us about Ethiopian traditions. We ended the tour by going to a really nice topical Ethiopian restaurant, in which there was a live show with a band and dancers. Really awesome. They finally brought us back to the hotel, and during all the tour they were always ready to meet our need. Super recommend!

It was a wonderful trip! Oli accompanied us; he was always helpful, friendly, and had the best tips. we went to the museums, but going to the Merkato and Shola Market—a unique experience!

I had a wonderful city tour with Liyu Ethiopia Tours in Addis Ababa. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly, and I enjoyed learning about Ethiopia’s rich history, traditions, and cuisine. Everything was well organized, and I felt very welcomed. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Addis Ababa.

Yhun and all his staff, especially Oli and Abraham, were amazing guides. We had a pleasant day seeing all Addis with much care and attention of them, explaining the routes and accompanying our groups through museums and shops. It was very safe - we were in a group of 9 women, without any worries. Fast response, honest price and perfect flexibility to organise the program. Thank you!!!!

Booked this tour through GetYourGuide (which had a discounted rate) for Liyu Tours, and Oli was my guide and did a great job. Pickup was on time and appreciated them accommodating a change in pickup at the last minute. The tour, which ended up being just for me, focused on Merkato, St, George’s Church & Museum, the former palace at Addis Ababa University (as the National Museum was closed, Mount Entoto viewpoint, and a coffee at Tomoka Coffee’s historic train station location. Along the way, ~10 other major sights were pointed out. The tour was great, and Oli was good at focusing on what I liked and answering my questions. I wanted to spend more time at Merkato and he took me quite deep into it and I was the only foreigner around. Most who take these tours are on layovers, and I encourage anyone transiting through Addis on Ethiopian Airlines to give the tour a try instead of just staying in the hotel. It felt safe throughout. Remember to bring small bills for tipping the guide - I didn’t have birr and by the time I went back to the hotel to grab some small bills, they’d left. Excited to get another tour next time I’m in Addis to see another area.

We did the city tour of Addis Adaba. So happy we did. Our guide Oli and Abrham were so knowledgeable and the driver handled the traffic with a skill we were still to get used to. The tour started with us travelling from hotel to the markets so with the roads were crazy but not as much as the market. Such a lively place, which we opted to drive through but were offered shopping time. Then to the lookout which put it in perspective and then the Palace which was so interesting, finished with a good strong coffee. Guides thank you your English and knowledge were amazing what a great introduction to our Africian adventure. Thanks Mary and Andrew

We contacted Liyu through our hotel and Spoke to the company who put us in touch with Oli. We arranged a pick up for 1pm for a city tour. Oli arrived early at the hotel and text us to advise they were outside. We were taken around the city to the museum, the city viewpoint, the church of St George, through the market and to the Tomoca coffee house. Oli was a fantastic tour guide and the driver (sorry we didn’t get your name) was amazing. Oli even advised us on places to eat out. Could definitely recommend. Thanks Oli. X

My friend and I had an 8.5 hour layover in Addis Ababa. We did a tour through Liyu with Oli. He was a great tour guide, very knowledgeable. We visited all sorts of places while Oli commented on the local practices. You don't have to worry about where you keep your carryon luggage with the private shuttle. The itinerary was flexible based on the amount of time we wanted to spend at each spot while considering the time we needed to get back to the airport. I would highly recommend Liyu and Oli for a taste of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia!!
