Over 2 hours and 30 minutes, our local expert guides will take you on a journey back in time through the city centre of Belfast. You will discover how 'the Troubles' started, visit the locations where some of the most important events occurred, and learn about the path to reconciliation and eventually peace (and the challenges the future may hold). You will discover the realities of growing up and living your life during the conflict, and how it touched everyone. The tour is factual and historically accurate to ensure it is unbiased, the guides are conflict historians, who also weave their own stories into their tours to bring history to life, transporting you back to the Belfast of the 1970s and giving you a unique understanding of the recent past. Today Belfast's main shopping street may look like any other British or Irish city, but it hides a troubled past. Your guide will explain the story behind a bomb attack on a nightclub here in 1971, the tragic events which followed and the introduction of what became known as the 'Ring Of Steel'.

We had a fantastic tour with our guide, Anne. She was just a little girl when the trouble first started and provided us with not only the history of Northern Ireland, but also her personal experiences, which were wonderful to hear about. Our stops were at key sites where bombings and other historical instances took place. You could tell that Anne felt most of these experiences affected her life not only as a child, but also as an adult. She was an excellent tour guide!

Anne was an excellent tour guide and gave my daughter and I a thorough overview of the Troubles. We both learned so much from this walking tour. It will stay with us forever. Hard hitting on many occasions but we can see the joy and spirit of regeneration clearly throughout the city that Anne spoke of on the tour. Anne was also very kind to us at the end of the tour and made my daughter and I feel very welcome here. Thank you Anne!

Reallly interesting tour showing us specific sites that saw incidents during the Troubles with a very well balanced and factual account of events. Events were clearly quite grim and very sad to be hearing about, but it brough the events home to the audience and gave you things to think about and reflect on and although not enjoyable as such, it was fascinating and a thought provoking insight. The Organisers presented very well and engaged with all the group all the time.

Mylie gave the best tour either of us have ever enjoyed. Encyclopaedic knowledge, exceptional perspective, grasp of the inherent complexities and nuance, plenty of human stories around the evolution of the troubles and a strong picture of the preceding centuries of conflict and politically driven mistakes. Could not recommend more highly.

Mylie was our guide and was very informative. I knew the basics of the “troubles” but hoped this tour would offer more of an insight. It definitely did and more as Mylie didn’t just quote statistics but shared real emotional peoples stories. Mylie was very balanced in explaining the situation from both sides and welcomed any questions you had along the way. I would definitely recommend this tour

The tour was exceptional. I was quite young in the 1970s and although I was aware of the troubles, I didn’t really know much about the details. Myley was so informative and really conveyed the human cost of the actions. I felt quite emotional about some of the stories that were told. I never appreciated how young many perpetrators and victims were and the fact that women were involved as well as men . I am so pleased that I did this walking tour.

Mylie was highly knowledgeable and she was super effective and engaging in communicating and teaching while not being lecture-y. My boyfriend and I both agreed this tour was one of our top experiences on our recent Dublin and Belfast trip. I also really appreciate how DC tours tells the individual stories of people from all sides who were killed in the Troubles to keep their memory alive while also keeping the narrative neutral. Definitely would recommend this tour.

Roisin was our guide and she never waned from the very beginning of this tour - pre-Henry VIII - to today! She clearly loves her vibrant city of Belfast and its rightful optimism for the future. She was able to explain such a complex web of threads over centuries that ultimately led to the tribal sectarianism that become Northern Ireland's (or "North of Ireland's") terrible reality - particularly in the 70s. Also, how the Good Friday Agreement, and being in the EU hugely helped to stabilise things so things could get better for both communities (and their splinter groups), and then the difficulties that Brexit added to the mix while these issues are still being worked through! An font of knowledge with humour, sensitivity and grit thrown in - an absolute MUST for anyone who wants to understand that this was always much more than just being "Catholic or Protestant" but it was, and still is that as well as slowly this beautiful part of Ireland works to heal itself. Thank you Roisin!
