Over 2 hours and 30 minutes, our local expert guides will take you on a journey back in time through the city centre of Belfast. You will discover how 'the Troubles' started, visit the locations where some of the most important events occurred, and learn about the path to reconciliation and eventually peace (and the challenges the future may hold). You will discover the realities of growing up and living your life during the conflict, and how it touched everyone. The tour is factual and historically accurate to ensure it is unbiased, the guides are conflict historians, who also weave their own stories into their tours to bring history to life, transporting you back to the Belfast of the 1970s and giving you a unique understanding of the recent past. The tour starts each day at 10.30am.

Belfast City Hall
In the grounds of Belfast City Hall your guide will introduce you to the tour and also give an introduction to the history of the Troubles. The introduction sets the scene for the rest of the tour, explaining the centuries old relationships between the British and the Irish and how and why the Troubles started in the late 1960s.
Today Belfast's main shopping street may look like any other British or Irish city, but it hides a troubled past. Your guide will explain the story behind a bomb attack on a nightclub here in 1971, the tragic events which followed and the introduction of what became known as the 'Ring Of Steel'.

5.00The experience was amazing. Despite the pouring rain, but Mylie was exceptional in her knowledge and her passion for Belfast. She was generous with all her information and delivered with a real send of personality. Def recommend this tour.

5.00One of the best walking tours I've ever experienced. Our guide, Mylie, was exceptional. She was welcoming, friendly and explained things in a way that was easy to understand. The tour was incredibly interesting and insightful and I felt totally engaged with all Mylie had to tell us about the troubled past of Belfast and Northern Ireland. Mylie shared with us lots of information and although it was difficult to process and remember all that she said, I felt I had learnt so much and could now understand all that had gone on much better. Thank you so much. I look forward to my next visit to Belfast and another DC Walking Tour.

5.00Excellent guide. He had his masters in history and knew the topics well. A lot to pack in and he started us with the 1500s to understand how the problems began then. We walked to several sites where bombings occurred. I thought it was a balanced approach. It was cold that day. Wear thermals if needed as you will stand to listen. One bathroom break included and he used bluetooth headsets so you never missed a word even while walking. Terrific way to learn about the history of northern Ireland. He carried photos as well to share certain events. Even a small bit on Frederick Douglass from American History.

5.00Mylie was incredible. The best tour guide I’ve ever had on a tour bar none. I grew up in England during the Troubles and so remember the news etc but Mylie put it all into context and I realised that I’d only ever heard one side of the story. I know feel like I understand the issues. It was brought right up to date with discussion about how Brexit nearly destabilised the peace process. I’m so pleased I did this tour.

5.00Incredible. To my shame I was originally dissapointed that our guide Mylie was an American but that changed within the first 30 seconds of her speaking. She really really knows her stuff and delivered it in a very engaging way. It’s the best city tour I’ve ever done anywhere. I grew up during the Troubles and quickly realised that being English I have only ever heard one side of the story. It was great getting both sides of it on the tour. I really appreciated hearing the individual stories of people as well as the political history. Belfast is a great city but this just put the icing on the cake for me.
