This overnight hike to Volcán Acatenango is our top tour, and for good reason. Climb the slopes of beautiful Acatenango to our private campsite – bench-cut into the side of this towering mountain. Enjoy freshly prepared camp meals, incredible panoramic views, and the sights and sounds of nearby Volcán Fuego’s violent volcano eruptions.
Witness the evening fireworks show from nearby and very active Volcan Fuego.

Acatenango
Our group leaves from the Old Town Outfitters Shop at 8:00 am, where you can fill up your water bottles and purchase any additional gear you might need. A one-hour drive takes us from Antigua to the sleepy mountain village of La Soledad, perched on the ridge of the Pacific slope of Volcan Acatenango. The hike takes ~5-6 hours to basecamp, going trhough four distinct microclimates, each of which will take you about an hour to traverse. Temperate coniferous forest and tropical dry forest characterize the 3rd phase of our ascent, which will lead us to the storm-beaten tree-line of the volcano. Our campsite is perched just below the tree line with sweeping views of the Antigua valley and Volcan Fuego. After setting up camp, hikers are free to rest, relax and enjoy their surroundings while our guide prepares a fresh camp dinner at ~3750m with hot tea and coffee.

We had a two-day tour with an overnight stay on Acatenango. Our guide Rolando took perfect care of us on the way up and made sure everyone was doing well. He gave us a lot of information about the volcanoes and the landscape. We couldn't have asked for a better companion! The camp is well equipped with tents and sleeping bags, and Rolando and the other guides served fantastic lunch, dinner, and breakfast. The absolute highlight is the climb to the summit the next morning to enjoy the sunrise. An incredible experience! Many thanks to Rolando and the whole team who made this tour the highlight of our trip to Guatemala.

Amazing experience- Daniel and Willy did everything they could to make our trip enjoyable. It was a challenging hike, but we were really supported every step of the way. The whole experience was amazing, especially the sunrise from the top…. Honestly, couldn’t have done it (or enjoyed it) without this team….
