  We were already on a trip to Guatemala, and after a lot of research we easily concluded that OX was the most qualified and with the vibration we were looking for. It was pure truth. They managed to fit our group (4) exactly for the dates we needed. The staff is great, the guides impeccable. All organized in the European standard. We chose the Trident plan. It was the best choice. 2 nights and 3 volcanoes. First we went to Acatenango and then to the Fuego with Miguel’s competent team. On the second night, we had an immersive and lonely experience in Pacaya, with the guide Ronaldo and his right arm José. We highly recommend OX. Check the website and confirm reservations as soon as possible, as the demand is great! ***the evaluation criterion is proportional, taking into account the proposal the venue offers and the use and the public to which it is intended.

  

  

• Most unique hiking trip we've ever done!

  We were recommended this tour operator by one of our friends who did the overnight Acatenango hike with Ox and he loved it. We only had booked the overnight Acatenango hike originally because we waited until the last minute and things were selling out quicly for end of April 2026 BUT we were able to add on the Fuego hike option and pay for it at the end of our trip. We had 1 main guide who spoke English and ~4-5 other local guides that we met at the trailhead who spoke mostly Spanish. They were all wonderful and our main guide, Romeo, was very organized and went through everything to expect the night before our trip so we were prepared ahead of time. This is also when we could rent gear we needed from them. The next morning we arrived early to Ox to pack up our bags, got breakfast and then headed out to the trailhead to "base camp". We were provided breakfast, lunch, dinner, and breakfast the 2nd day and could bring any other snacks we wanted too. Our group was VERY big, around 35-40 people but the guides were able to check on everyone and make sure we got to the Fuego viewpoint with plenty of time before dark, and that we made it to the top of Acatenango on day 2 before sunrise. We even had some brave souls in our group do the crater run at the top which made the trip so much more fun. Our group was really great and I can't recommend this company and our tour guides enough. Truly a once in a lifetime experience!

  Truly one of the most awesome experiences I have had. The company was extremely prepared and mindful. The guides were exceptional and added hugely to the positive experience. Everything was smooth and I would highly recommend them!

• Prioritising money over safety.

  Our hike up to base camp was a good experience. This suddenly changed during our Fuego hike. Our guides knew of an impending storm but did not inform the 25 people who went on this hike. Instead we were told that the clouds would clear and there are only 4 times they have not seen the mountain. On the unexposed mountain face it rained, hailed and then we proceeded to get caught in a thunder storm. The waterproofs that we brought and were provided with did not do enough to keep us dry and instead of seeking cover we were marched to the top as there were only two guides with us. Instead of prioritising group safety our guide pulled out a bottle of rum at the summit whilst 10 of us wanted to descend. To make matters worse we were told to bring clothes with us for warmth but even the waterproofs couldn’t protect the clothes. Upon returning to camp we were not provided with anything that could help us dry and our whole cabin had to sleep in cold and wet clothes. This unfortunately felt like the company prioritised money over the safety of our group. From speaking to other travellers in Guatemala, their expedition group refused to go on the hike due to the conditions. Those at the camp seen the exact same views that we did. I would think twice about who you book with and check the weather ahead yourself as the professionals with us didn’t tell us the truth.

• New route that's better than the competitors and a superior Fuego experience

  OX guides and staff are true pros. They have a new route of their own that bypasses the hardest part of the hike while keeping the group mostly in the shade, that alone is worth booking with them. Talk about a pleasant and much appreciated surprise! Our group had 38 people and everyone there were absolutely lovely to chat and hang out with. We enjoyed each other's company so much that we created a whatsapp community to stay in touch and share our photos and videos. The logistics are well thought out from the gear, food, drink, equipment, etc. You can literally show up with your boots, hiking clothes and weather clothes and they will be able to handle the rest for you. OX leaves for camp early and in kind leaves for the Fuego hike before the other groups so you will get the best view possible if you decide to do that hike the same day you reach camp.

  The hike itself is challenging ( approximately 6 hours to base camp), but the experience of the erupting El Fuego at dusk ( which is now occurring with remarkable frequency) and the pre-dawn hike up to the 13,00-foot summit hike up Acatenango volcano (dormant) are bucket list experiences. The guides are excellent, the views from the mountain top stunning, getting to know your fellow hikers an enriching multicultural experience. Bring warm clothes since mountain temperatures approach freezing at night. And expect to be woken several times a night by the sonic-boom like explosions that herald another explosive eruption.

  OX expeditions distinguishes itself from other organized Acatenango-hikes by the great preparation and professional guidance. It started with a pleasant and accessible meeting the night before, be sure to go there. You get advice, important info and get to know your group and guide (credits to Henry!). They provide super good material that is neatly maintained. Bring plenty of warm clothing, the cold at the top is unseen and definitely rent hiking poles (also possible on site from locals). This organization works with local guides who know the volcano by heart, people with experience, an eye for safety and an understanding of the difficulty of this climb (don't underestimate this). Everything is provided by OX expeditions: good food, plenty of water, hygienic sleeping accommodation and all while respecting nature. I did my research, and am very satisfied that I did this hike with OX expeditions. Tip: the Fuego hike is a nice extra, the morning summit hike is really a must!

  Had an amazing time. Our guide, Henry, was the absolute best. He is chill, fun, knowledgeable and very well organized. From A to Z, Henry was concerned about everyone's safety whilst making sure we were having fun. The atmosphere of the group was absolutely on point. I 100% recommend going with this company and If you're lucky enough to have the same guide as we did, ENJOY!! Ps: The summit hike was probably in top 5 best days of my life. Thanks for everything!
