Elmina Castle
Elmina Castle was the first – and for many centuries – the largest, European building constructed in tropical Africa. Yet its grandeur, as well as its picturesque surroundings with blue skies, sandy beaches, and tropical palms, disguise a very dark history – Elmina Castle was the last place that thousands of African slaves would ever see of their homeland before being shipped to be enslaved in various parts of the world. This tour is emotional and expertly coordinated by experienced tour guides who will answer all your questions and give insight into the history of the transatlantic slave trade.

I recently traveled to Ghana courtesy of Wild Tours Company based in Accra, and the experience was truly exceptional. From start to finish, the staff was friendly, professional, and incredibly accommodating. They were very attentive to details and made us feel safe and well cared for throughout the entire trip. The tours were thoughtfully curated, offering a perfect balance of history, culture, food, and local experiences. The Cape Coast tour was especially impactful and informative, providing deep insight into Ghana’s rich and powerful history. Ghana is a country full of vibrant culture, warm people, and amazing food, and Wild Tours ensured that we experienced a little bit of everything during the 10 days we were there. I highly recommend Wild Tours to anyone looking for a meaningful, well-organized, and memorable travel experience in Ghana. Highly Recommend!

I had a wonderful experience with Wild Tours on the Accra Cape Coast tour. From start to finish, everything was well organized, informative, and enjoyable. The itinerary was thoughtfully planned, allowing us to truly appreciate the history of Cape Coast. Our tour guide, Chenti, was excellent, knowledgeable, and professional. He made sure everyone felt comfortable and engaged throughout the tour. All the other tour guides were very knowledgeable and passionate about Ghana’s history. Anyone interested in learning about the history of slavery should visit Cape Coast, and Wild Tours is an excellent choice. I highly recommend them to anyone visiting Ghana.

During a work trip to Ghana, I had one free Saturday and wanted to make the most of it. After some thought, I booked with Wild Tours Ghana, hoping for my first rainforest experience at Kakum National Park and a historical tour of Cape Coast. Even though I contacted them only three days in advance, planning the trip was surprisingly easy. My main constraint was catching a 9:25 PM flight the same day. They confirmed it was possible but required a very early start, which I accepted. Lucie handled all arrangements, eased any concerns, and organized payment—50% upfront and the rest during the tour. At 4 AM on Saturday, my guide Chenti and a driver picked me up from my hotel. We left immediately to avoid Accra’s heavy traffic. Although Kakum isn’t far, a new highway is under construction, and with no alternate routes, everyone drives through the construction zones. I quickly understood why Wild Tours Ghana was cautious with timing: despite the rough, bumpy road, we reached Kakum in four hours—smooth by current standards. We arrived about 20 minutes before the park opened and were among the first to begin the famous Canopy Walk, accompanied by Chenti and a guide from the park. After a brief walk through the forest—which, thanks to the dense canopy, doesn’t immediately feel like a rainforest—we reached the canopy walk: seven bridges suspended high above the ground. Although the walk could be done in 10–15 minutes, rushing through would be a real loss. We spent over an hour there, and I appreciated that both Chenti and the park guide encouraged taking our time. Arriving early meant no crowds pushing us along. What struck me most was the near-total silence, broken only by birdsong. It’s hard to describe, but lingering on the bridges made me feel immersed in the forest. Chenti and the guide shared the experience with me as we talked about the forest, conservation policy, and its flora and fauna. On the walk back, Chenti bought me a fresh coconut to drink and fresh cocoa seeds to taste. Very nice! After the nature experience, we drove to Cape Coast for a guided tour of the castle, known for its history of slavery. A local guide led us through the site and explained its tragic past. Walking through those spaces leaves you quiet and reflective, but preserving these memories is essential to prevent such horrors from happening again. For me, it’s a must-see when visiting the region. Near the end of the visit, Chenti asked me to choose my lunch so it could be prepared in advance, saving time given my flight schedule. We walked to a nearby restaurant where I enjoyed a local dish, Chicken Red Red. By about 1:30 PM, we began the return drive to account for any delays. Traffic was much heavier, and with the ongoing construction, anything was possible. The ride was long and extremely bumpy, but I chose to see it as part of the experience. The roadside scenes offered a glimpse into daily life, and with Chenti answering all my questions, the trip became an informative and engaging way to learn more about the country and its people. In the end, we avoided major delays, and I was dropped at the airport around 4:30 PM—better safe than sorry. Overall, it was an amazing day, combining nature, history, and cultural insight, all thanks to Chenti’s guidance. Once the road construction is finished—likely next year—the travel time should decrease significantly. Part of me thinks this will change the experience somewhat, because as long and bumpy as the journey was, it also added its own value to the tour. I’m grateful to the Wild Tours Ghana team for organizing everything, keeping the timing on track, and giving me the best possible one-day experience in Ghana. I highly recommend them!

This trip is not for the faint hearted. It was our first trip out of Accra and its 3/4 hour journey allowed us to take in the changing landscape. And feel it too! (Some roads are bumpy outside of the city). It was a deeply emotional trip for us. The visit to the Last Bath and Elmina Castle was difficult to digest. It generated good conversations and healthy reflection on the return journey to Accra. The Canopy walk was a great opportunity to be in nature and out of our comfort zone! Drinking Fresh coconut water straight from the coconut whilst surrounded by lush verdant foliage was pure joy and appreciation. I could go on for hours about the range of emotions and literal highs in the forests and lows in the dungeons but instead a few tips. It helps to be flexible. If you need to eat at regular intervals advise your guide beforehand so they can plan around this. The same with toilet breaks: don’t wait till you need the toilet to mention it. You can have as much conversation as you like or as little. Your guide will take their lead from you.

These guys are top notch. Very attentive and just overall good people. Everyone enjoyed our tour. These are the people to book for your tour. We had a large group (25 people). Trip Advisor limits booking to 15 people, so we had to make two reservations to cover everyone. The Tour company combined us and put us all on one big comfortable bus, versus two smaller vehicles. I am sure you will enjoy it as much as we did.

I was skeptical when Nii called to tell me he was already at our Hotel and I stepped out but didn't see him or the vehicle. I started chatting with him and it turned out he had gone to Fiesta Royale Hotels instead of Fiesta Residences (where we were). We had a good laugh when he arrived at our Hotel eventually - some 18 mins later. I had my reservations about the small red car as more leg room would have made the trip more comfortable, but it proved to be rugged as it went from Accra to Cape Coast and back without any incidents. Nii blew my mind when he led us in prayer before we embarked upon the journey - there was an explanation for that as he stated that in these parts of the world, persons embarking on journeys were expected to commit the journey to the Supreme being. He promised that the trip would not only be about Kakum national Park, Elmina and cape Coast Castle but would be an opportunity to learn more about Ghana. I daresay that I learnt so much about the Culture and people of Ghana on this trip than i knew till that day. Nii was a talker and kept us informed and engaged all through the trip. We stopped by at Zizibi restaurant on the way to Kakum and I had some Ghanaian jollof (still second to the Nigerian jollof though). We couldn't visit the International Sting-less Bees centre because of the small red car (smiles) as the road to the centre is known to be rugged. I learnt about the Fantis, the Gans, the Asantis etc. His sense of humour was equally excellent, and we sort of just connected. His photography skills were equally fantastic as he took quite some shots especially when we were not aware. he also allowed us recreate a scene from our honeymoon trip 10 years ago. Nii, and indeed Wild Tours will be recommended for anyone wishing to have an awesome experience of Ghana....
