The Alhambra

On a rocky hill that is difficult to access, on the banks of the River Darro, protected by mountains and surrounded by woods, among the oldest quarters in the city, the Alhambra rises up like an imposing castle with reddish tones in its ramparts that prevent the outside world from seeing the delicate beauty they enclose. Originally designed as a military area, the Alhambra became the residence of royalty and of the court of Granada in the middle of the thirteenth century, after the establishment of the Nasrid kingdom and the construction of the first palace, by the founder king Mohammed ibn Yusuf ben Nasr, better known as Alhamar. The fortress became a citadel with high ramparts and defensive towers, which house two main areas: the military area, or Alcazaba, the barracks of the royal guard, and the medina or court city, the location of the famous Nasrid Palaces and the remains of the houses of noblemen and plebeians who lived there.

Poor directions to progress through attractions. Audio guides poor. Not able to see the Kings Palace was disappointing.

Needs to have better directions for moving around the attraction. The audio guides functioned very poorly. There were no marked locations as to where to listen to the specific numbered guide. It seemed really strange to have to show your passport every time you moved from one section to another.

Easy to book and collect. Visitor centre directly opposite entrance to Alhambra. Very professional. One major tip, download the app and use your own headphones as the volume on the audio device wasn’t great.

Ticket 11:00 but with the surprise of having tickets to visit the Nasrid palace at 3:30 pm... look for the error. No information before! For a visit estimated at 3:00, I let you guess my frustration.

There was very little information about where the office was to wade our tickets we had to ask a lot and go around as we could not find it, otherwise fine...

It was absolutely breathtaking and great to have the audio guide. Will recommend to anyone who visits Granada. In fact it's why we came to Granada!!!

In rain, the Alhambra is a lousy place to wait in lines... No place to sit inside, no place to eat/drink inside.
Better be able to buy a cheaper ticket and hire a guide at the entrance (there were plenty of them)

Far too expensive ticket. Later I saw that we could have got the same for less than half through the official Alhambra website. Audio guide ; way too much useless info that you have to restart manually after half a minute. You don't use it after 15 minutes.

We hired a guided tour and we already had tickets, the maps played us a bad time and we arrived late to the meeting point. We asked the person in the office if he could call the guide to see where they were and join the group, his answer was no because once he entered the alhambra "they were forbidden to call them"??, we were surprised by the answer and asked him to tell us the tour and the name of the guide to look for him. He told us he didn't know the route and gave us a name. Once inside the watchmen watching the time of the entrances told us they would be in the jeneralife. Upon finding the guide, he told us that she was not and that he was alone with Italians. We decided to wait at the Nasrid Palaces to enter with the group at the scheduled time. We called the company to confirm and a very friendly lady told us to calm down and that she called the guide to tell her that we were there. I told him what the office employee said and he didn't give credit for what happened. We don’t understand why that person told us that story of being forbidden to call, giving us the name of another guide and not knowing what route they were taking. In short, at no time did you intend to help us as did the watchmen and the lady who answered us on the phone. Finally we could only see with the guide the Nazaries Palaces. Mind you, the guide, Allain was very good.

Alhambra itself lives up to its fame and hype, we spent 6 to 7 hrs in the complex, and visited all the attractions without rushing - the Nasrid Palace, Generalife Palace, Charles V Palace, the Alcazaba Fortress, and the overall sprawling manicured gardens. Buying the tickets on Trip Advisor has overheads - both in terms of price and effort. We paid 32 EUR for the normal 21 EUR direct ticket per person, so quite a markup. We had to exchange the voucher for an actual ticket - the Welcome Visitor Center was supposed to be open until 18:30, but when we reached there the previous day at 18:25, it was closed. Unfortunately, given the popularity of the Alhambra, via 3rd party was the only "guaranteed" option even 3 months in advance of our visit. The so called audio guide part of the Trip Advisor package is a publicly downloadable app (Basir Audio Guide de La Alhambra) on your phone, and for Nasrid Palace section you get a password based on your ticket - so be sure to have a smart phone with earphones per person.

We bought 2 tickets for the entrance to the Alhambra palaces Nazaries and others charged us 398 EUR , we were sent an email the previous day that there was a problem with the tickets for the palaces Nazaries , we ran out of them only gave us the option to see the outside , we changed the itinerary of the trip only for this , and my recommendation is not to buy on TRIPADVISOR , we are returned 30% a THEFT !! You have to denounce the facts so that people know !! The Tours Alhambra agency, passepartours, conclusion I will put on the networks not to buy in this agency and I want to return my money! What corresponds! Thank you.
