Luodai Ancient Town

Nestled in the eastern suburbs of Chengdu, Luodai Ancient Town is a charming testament to Sichuan's rich Hakka cultural heritage. Often called the "Hakka Town of the West," its history stretches back over a thousand years to the Ming and Qing dynasties. The town's soul lies in its well-preserved architecture: a mile-long main street paved with smooth bluestone slabs, flanked by traditional timber-and-bamboo structures with sweeping upturned eaves. Ornate carvings decorate the ancient gates and courtyards, whispering stories of the past. Luodai is especially famous for its "Dragon's Tail"—the winding, narrow alleyways that branch off the main thoroughfare. The air is often filled with the inviting aroma of local snacks; don't miss the iconic "Smelly Yet Fragrant" smoked goose or the sweet, glutinous "Aiwowo" rice cakes. An unforgettable experience! We booked 3 tours with Lalaland, 2 of which were customised and tailored to our own needs. What can I say.. they were Awesome! They took care of everything for us and planned the whole tours around our interests and needs. I especially was interested in Chinese ancient towns and tea culture. Unfortunately, because of time, for the first two tours we couldn't have an actual Chinese tea experience. But on our third tour we did have an authentic tea drinking experience!😍😍 Thanks to Lalaland, we experienced authentic Chengdu food, culture and traditions! We couldn't be happier with these 3 tours!😆 And the team is simply spot-on! Advices for the Lalaland team: The only advice we have for the team to further improve the experience: always have a plan B. If things get out of hand, if queues become endless and you need to wait in the queue for longer than expected, having a plan B truly helps you avoid wasting time and still focusing on the experiences the clients wanted. Ideas for further improvements: This is just an idea — you could consider offering extra-hour options to extend the tour if it runs late but is still ongoing. Thank you so much for these unforgettable memories, on behalf of us all!! 😍💫

We had Lala for a private tour. Was very accommodating and hospitable. Very good local knowledge of chengdu and the surrounding areas. Would definately recommend.

LaLa is the best guide. She is so attentive, friendly and pays such great attention to detail, working with us to provide a unique and interesting experience. She is knowledgeable, professional and worked very hard to make sure that we got an amazing abd authentic experience. I cannot recommend her highly enough- fabulous LaLa and Lalaland for a wonderful time.

We had an amazing day trip to visit the panda base on the outskirts of Chengdu, followed by an authentic lunch and onto a fascinating ancient city. Lala was a most professional, fun and informative guide who went above and beyond to make this day trip really special and one to always treasure and remember. I thoroughly recommend Lalaland as a tour company for exploring both Chengdu city and the wider regions. I wish her every success with her relatively fledgling but expanding business.

It was an amazing experience created for us by Lala! We've got more than we bargained for. Two tours in one! We were picked up at the hotel by Lala and it was a very comfortable ride to Panda Base. Drinks and snacks were provided during the tour. Then we were taken to an old village where we had a hotpot. It was sooo good! The place itself was very beautiful. I have taken lots of photos on this trip. We were not treated as customers but rather friends who paid a visit after a long time. We are very thankful to Lala to make our stay in Chengdu a memorable one!
