The park is located on the west coast with the closest accessibility from the city of Anuradhapura. In 1938, the park was declared a wildlife sanctuary with the natural freshwater lakes being home to many animal and bird species.

During the 30 year long civil war in the country, Wilpattu National Park remained closed and was re-opened for visitors in 2010. Since then it has been gradually gaining popularity as a spot on location to discover wildlife in South East Asia as well as an exciting spot for camping.

Your jeep safari driver will explore the park with you and try to the best of his ability to show you as many animals of the wild as possible. This is a half day jeep safari experience in the wild!

My recent safari experience in Wilpattu National Park, arranged by Blue Lanka Tours, was absolutely excellent and is something I would highly recommend to everyone. From the start, the coordination was seamless thanks to Amesha at Blue Lanka Tours. He flawlessly coordinated with the ground team and drivers, leaving us with zero worries. The team of safari jeeps was top-notch; our jeep was in great condition, and the driver was incredibly friendly and prioritized our comfort throughout the entire journey. The full tour lasted close to six hours and offered a breathtaking display of Sri Lankan wilderness. We were fortunate to witness beautiful scenery and an amazing array of wildlife, including peacocks, various other birds, a Bear, a Leopard, Crocodiles, and Deer. The driver was extremely knowledgeable, providing interesting explanations about the animals and their behavior, which truly enhanced the experience. This was an amazing, well-organized, and professional tour. If you are planning a visit to Wilpattu, you must book with Blue Lanka Tours—you won't regret it!

It was an amazing experience visiting Wilpattu National Park! I was lucky enough to witness a once-in-a-lifetime moment — seeing leopards, bears, and the breathtaking natural beauty of Sri Lanka. It was a super fun Safari!! We saw a lot of animals and enjoyed it immensely! Our guide was also a super sociable man, laughed along a lot and found out about certain animals.

We actually did a 7 day tour of Sri Lanka visiting 3 national parks many temples and our guide Sanjeewa was absolutely magnificent. Saw elephants, crocodiles including one taking a bird, a sloth bear and many many birds. Anyone thinking of visiting Sri Lanka should use blue Lanka and ask for Sanjeewa.

My husband and I loved the safari. We got to see so many animals in their natural habitats and we were lucky enough to spot a few leopards. Our tour consultant Sanjeewa was so informative and jolly, a very good fellow.
