Our mini Chicken Bus, a colorful, shiny, and iconic mode of transport. While regular Chicken Buses are built for 60 passengers, ours has only 20 and is used exclusively for participants, offering a more personal and comfortable ride but keeping the authencity of public transportation, the reduced sized allows us to easily move through villages that othewise we couldn't connect in the same route. These buses, known for their unique designs, are a symbol of local pride.
Our Half Day experience provides a safe and comfortable journey from village to village, allowing us to immerse in local lifestyles. Along the way, we visit family-owned workshops and community projects that preserve ancestral traditions like artisanal chocolate, loquat wine and more. Your participation directly supports these efforts and has a positive impact on local families.

We will start our journey visiting San Juan del Obispo, its plaza overview will surprised you with the sorrounding valley beauty, our time will be split through a Chocolate Family Owned store that has been hadcrafted for over five generations, learn the artisanal process behind Guatemala's beloved chocolate beverage and enjoy a warm tasting. Just around the corner, visit the Loquat Museum, where this giant golden fruit is transformed into wine, jams and preserves, signature flavors of the village that you'll have the chance to sample.
Named as Las Huertas due to the farming village known for growing tomatoes, beans, and lettuce. Walk thorugh its peaceful streets, passing by a traditional communal sink where multiple spots allow inhabitants to access it and wash clothign at the beautiful plaza, on the east the baroque Spanish Colonial church. Take breathtaking views of both Fuego and Agua volcanoes, capturing a perfect picture of rural life. If all participants agree on including we could have in addition a local Jade Factory also Family Owned.

5.00I loved the Mayan weaving workshop that teaches local Mayan children, the cultural significance, and the techniques of the loom. Dyes made with ancient knowledge our startlingly, bright and varied. The trip was two bumpy from my companion. The situation was easily repaired at the next stop, a macadamia plantation and dog rescue farm , with local refreshments and chatting time. Replenished, we continued.

5.00Five of us took the chicken bus tour with Roberto as our guide. We had fun while also learning a lot. Roberto has a passion for his country and people which is contagious. And an added bonus: he knows a lot about birds which we appreciated so much! He took good care of us on this tour and we highly recommend this trip.

5.00JJ was an excellent guide, he provided so much information and history about Antigua and Guatemala. We really enjoyed visiting the textile weaving school and macadamia nut farm. I highly recommend this tour!

5.00We had a great tour with JJ and Roberto today. They shared the history of Guatemala and showed us neighboring towns and the amazing natives who are carrying on generations of artisan crafts. They made the tour fun and interesting and I highly recommend booking a tour with them to truly understand the history and people of Guatemala.

5.00Our guide JJ (Juan Jesus) was excellent, very informative and could answer our many questions about culture, religion and local history. The stops were interesting and it was a good way to see outside Antigua and see more of the local Guatemalan people and landscape.

5.00One of several amazing tours we enjoyed with the help of Columbus Guatemala Travel. (These guys are the BEST!). A fun way to explore small towns around Antigua and learn about artisan wine, chocolate, textiles and other area produce. Shout out to the wonderful women at the weaving collective that teaches children the ancient art of Maya weaving! Just wish we had known that our small bottles of artisan wine would be confiscated during the security check. Next time we'll buy the big bottles and check our bags!

5.00We thoroughly enjoyed our time with Esteban! He was very informative and taught us a lot about Antigua within the first 20 minutes of the tour. He was passionate about his hometown and pround (and rightfully so) of Guatemala and its people. We never felt rushed and were able to see several nearby Indigenous communities. It's definitely worth the money, but we're still looking for the provided "snacks" and the chickens/turkeys on the buses :)
