Departure to Carthage, founded by the Phoenicians in 814 BC. The earliest settlements of Punic Carthage can sill be seen on Byrsa Hill, just below the renowed Carthage National Museum. Although destroyed by the Romans in 146BC and later built over by them, recent excavation has revealed the foundations of five-story Punic houses, each with its own cistern and drainage system. The most remarkable early remains are the two basins of the Punic Ports, an evidence of the Carthaginian’ mastery of the sea, which fascinated and frustrated the Romans. Another important site of pre-roman Carthage is the Tophet.
Sidi Bou said: Perched high atop of a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean, this picturesque village is a delightful place for a leisurely stroll through winding cobbled streets. Its trademark white walls, contrasting sky blue doors and ornate window grids, make for a wonderfully inspiring setting. Wander around the boutiques for souvenirs or relax at a cliff-side Moorish café.

Tour was cancelled last evening, too late to rebook another tour as our cruise tours were sold out. We travelled halfway around the world to see Carthage…very disappointed!

It is not possible to come to Tunisia and mainly to the north without visiting the archaeological site of Carthage .Founded by the Phoenicians in the 1st century BC and taken over by the Romans at the beginning of the 1st century AD. The site is still very interesting to discover even if only the lower parts exist , except E 2 columns. Must see , superb view of the Mediterranean

Imagine a personal tour with a journalist and cultural anthropologist. Fawzi was both and he gave my daughter and I a fantastic personal tour with attention to detail and patience. Highly recommended!

The history of Carthage came alive as we moved from site to site. Very interesting . our guide was well educated about the history of this and of Tunis in general. His name was Yohia Zeinekh, call him Yahyah. The driver was Adam Mallouli. Both were pleasant and helpful. They arrived at our meeting place punctually. It was a good experience.

We had the pleasure of exploring the archaeological site of Carthage and the charming city of Sidi Bou Said with an exceptional guide who truly brought the experience to life. His passion for Tunisia and its rich history was evident in every story he told and every detail he pointed out. In Carthage, he helped us imagine the grandeur of the ancient civilization, walking us through ruins that held centuries of history. He painted a vivid picture of the city’s rise and fall, and his knowledge added real depth to the visit. Sidi Bou Said was equally captivating — a picturesque town of blue and white, where our guide shared not only historical insights but also cultural gems, from local traditions to hidden spots we would have easily missed. It’s rare to meet someone so genuinely proud of their country, and his enthusiasm made this tour unforgettable. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience Tunisia beyond the surface.

Our guide Fawzi and our driver Adam provided us with an exceptional day of sightseeing in Tunis. Fawzi was a wealth of knowledge and shared this with us in a very engaging and interesting way. They accommodated us with an extension to the tour so we could also experience the Medina and then the comparison with the the new city.

Carthage has a rich and fascinating history. While the ruins here tend to be spread out and not restored, they are everywhere. Recommend a guide to make sense of it all. While Sidi Bou Said has a bit of a tourist trap feel, it’s popular for a reason, with beautiful white washed homes in blue trim, draped in bougainvillea and the whole thing perched on a high bluff overlooking the Mediterranean.
