This is the ideal day-tour for those who love culture and nature. We will leave Antigua at 6 in the morning and drive for 1:50hrs to visit the beautiful Los Tarrales Natural Reserve. This 1,300-hectare private reserve is located right at Atitlan´s volcano slope. In its extension, experts have counted more than 350 species of birds reside.
During our morning visit, you will also enjoy miles of trails with coffee bushes, ornamental plants, jungle and water springs. For lunchtime, we will visit the charming Mayan Village of San Lucas Toliman. Before to take our shuttle back to Antigua, don´t forget to interact with the locals right at lake Atitlan´s shore and check out their products and handicrafts.

Tarrales Natural Reserve
The protected area starts at 700 meters high and extends to 3,000 meters above sea level. Los Tarrales is a very important area for wildlife conservation in Guatemala. Because hunting is not allowed in Los Tarrales, it is easy to see animals such as white-tailed deer, Agouti, White-bellied Chachalaca and Crested Guan. Besides, signs of Puma droppings and scratches are frequently observed. For those who love bird watching, the list of birds on a morning walk is simply extensive. Here´s some, black-headed saltator, Yellow-winged Tanager, Blue-gray Tanager, Yellow-naped parrot, several types of parekeets, Cinnamon Hummingbirds, orioles and more. The well trained local guides at Los Tarrales will help you to observe all the birds possible.
San Lucas Toliman
San Lucas Toliman is a Mayan Village where a big majority of its inhabitants are fishermen, farmers, and talented handcrafters. We will certainly suggest a good restaurant to have lunch there with breathtaking views of the lake. After lunch you will have free time to browse around the small village, talk to the locals or buy souvenirs. We will be taking our shuttle back to Antigua at 3:30 pm.

Very nice trip to Lake Atitlan

4.00The driver Marlon who picked us up from the hotel was very friendly and knowledgeable. We started the trip with the views of Fuego volcano puffing ashes in every 5 minutes or so on our drive to the reserve. There we met another guide to take us for the bird watching tour. We barely saw 5-6 birds on the tour, but the guide was very nice and explained about the rainforest and the eco-system there. At the end of our walk, we reached a small waterfall. From the birdwatching perspective, the tour was disappointing. We left to Toliman island around noon, after birdwatching. We had lunch at the Toliman hotel, which offered one of the best seafood options. We ended up taking dinner also togo from Toliman hotel. We spent some time walking on the shores of Lake Atitlan there. The hotel Toliman's backside gate opens to Lake Atitlan. Beautiful views of the lake from the hotel and the shore. Around 2.30pm, we started out trip back to the hotel and reached Antigua by 4.30pm.

5.00If you want to get off the road of the usual and embark on a great hike with ups and downs to get to a secret waterfall, then this tour is for you. The adventure started when Mr. Marlon picked us up to take us to Los Tarrales, a wonderful natural reserve where we met our tour guide who took us hiking, watching birds and exotic landscapes, and yes swimming in the waterfalls. On our way back, we stopped in a restaurant that serves traditional delicious local cuisine. I highly recommend this tour for anyone who loves challenging hikes with a great scenery and company.

5.00A wonderful trip! The driver, tour guide, and the actual tour all were above our expectations. We saw 50 species of birds and enjoys the beautiful Guatemalan countryside. An easy walk with great views of nature.
