  A private tour of Hobbiton was the way to go! It was expensive but it’s the best way to go. Hobbiton runs like clockwork perfection. Your guide will know the exact time you have at each place on the movie set. No other tour is allowed to be there at the same time. So your photos are perfect! Each time at each stop is plenty of time to see everything. We invited Drew our Time Unlimited guide to go on the tour with us. He took some of the best photos we got! And he was like a new friend to us. Everything was prearranged and he did all the checking in and coordinating. The Hobbiton tour guide Annie was also awesome. She wasn’t just there to point at things. She had a genuine interest in the movie, books and the process of film making. She had a ton of interesting and obscure fact about filming. She was a genuine fan! The buffet was so much better than we expected! The food and service was excellent. And since we were on a private tour, we got a table all to ourselves.

  This was an exceptional tour from start to finish. Curtis picked us up at the M Social in Auckland in a classy Mercedes van, clean, well stocked with everything we needed. He introduced himself and gave us a bit about his family and then proceeded down the road to Hobbiton with lots of local lore and helpful background information. He was kind, considerate, and informative attending to our every need. The Hobbiton experience itself was way above our expectations with spectacular views, detailed realistic hobbit hole sets and settings, amusing and helpful tour guide walking us through the Shire. For a Lord of the Ring buff, it was a dream come true and I recommend it for all fans of the movies by Peter Jackson on the Tolkien tales. Curtis courteously dropped us off in Rotarua but first gave us some helpful tips on local eating and visiting. He also was well informed about New Zealand travel in general and gave us more info on our flights and tours to the South Island in upcoming days. Overall, 5 STARS!!

  We booked TIME Unlimited for transportation to and from the Hobbiton Banquet Tour. They picked us up from our Auckland hotel and drove us to Hobbiton with time to spare before our tour so we could do plenty of souvenir shopping and even have a snack in the Hobbiton Cafe. Breviss was our driver--he was awesome! He had a great knowledge of the Maori culture and was really fun to chat with. He even looked up our Hobbit names before the trip so we would have those on hand for our Hobbiton journey! He was very helpful when we arrived to Hobbiton to make sure we were checked in and set for our tour. He picked us up after the tour in a nice warmed car (which was great because it was cold outside) and drove us back to our hotel. The car was clean and very comfortable. Snacks and water were provided as well as friendly chat and interesting stories. I would highly recommend this tour company for your transportation to and from Hobbiton!

  Amazing! It is a long drive but worth the wait and if you are from the US its great not driving it yourself!

  Firstly our praise for Harry our brilliant Time Unlimited guide who was at all times professional, respectful, cheerful and eager to please us in every way possible. He had us both totally engaged on the drive there with a brief history of the Maori people, their culture and language. He tried teaching us a bit of Maori, which we both failed abysmally but it was fun and enlightening. The honey tasting was also a nice extra. Then we arrived at Hobbiton and were totally immersed in Tolkien’s Hobbit world. What a great combination to have the lovely daytime tour, then an interlude in the warm and atmospheric Green Dragon for a sumptuous and delicious feast, followed by a magical starlight and lantern tour to the Party Tree Hill. The two young Hobbiton guides (Sunny and Hayden) were unbelievable with such engaging and delightful personalities and great knowledge of all things Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movie stories. We were sad to have to say goodbye to them and Hobbiton but Harry drove us safely back to our hotel in warmth and luxury and in no time at all. From start to finish the tour was magical and we could not fault anything, as it was beyond our expectations. The organisation was flawless as well.
