Come with us for your Aurora hunt for an amazing and ethical experience underneath the Aurora Borealis. Leave the light pollution in Tromsø behind and travel into the Arctic wilderness. During this tour, our small team of Aurora guides check the forecasts & use local knowledge to decide on the best place to chase the Northern Lights. When we find the best spot, we will dress in warm thermal suits and boots, make a cosy campfire, and enjoy a homemade meal.
You'll be shown how to use your camera, photograph the Aurora, and our guides will take photos of you, available for free in web-sized resolution after the tour.
Enjoy our hot chocolate before being returned to Tromsø island to your hotel. Though there is never a guarantee of seeing this phenomenon, our experienced team will do their best every night of the season.

When exceptional situations arise (e.g. environmental cancellations) it is important to reach you. This is easiest if you provide your contact number on the road (phone number + correct country code) & keep this with you on the day of the tour.
We only drop off at set drop off locations: Scandic Ishavhotel, Smarthotel, AMIhotel, Vervet, Wandering Owl office, Airport, Arctic Cathedral, Tromsø Camping bus stop, Breivika Cruise Dock
Winter equipment is included, please give us your clothing and shoe sizes - fill out ewaiver form
Please advise any specific dietary requirements at time of booking as well as medical condition if needed
Please bring your passport with you in case you need to cross to Finland during the tour
Operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately. Make sure you wear a warm base layer, winter clothes including warm shoes, a hat, mittens, a scarf and woolen socks.
A small amount of walking is involved, you must be able to walk 200m
Please be prepared for limited toilet facilities, there will be a gas station stop during the drive, however the camp itself is in the wild Arctic nature where the only toilet possibilities are in the forest (there are no pre-built facilities).
Minimum numbers apply. There is a possibility of cancellation after confirmation if less than 4 passengers per tour. In the event of this occurring, you will be offered an alternative or full refund
We provide home-made vegan and gluten free soup
You must travel with travel insurance.
SIGN OUR eWAIVER. We need one participant to sign it on behalf of the group making sure that the names of all participants are in the document.

5.00We had a wonderful Aurora tour experience. Michael and Lucia -Sorry for any spelling mistakes- were both very kind and professional, and everything was well organized. Lucia gave us very interesting and informative explanations, which made the experience even more meaningful. The thermal suits and boots provided by the team really helped us get through the freezing night comfortably. We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights! It was truly magical! It does get extremely cold, so it’s very important for visitors to come well prepared. But overall, it was an amazing experience. Thank you!

5.00If you can only book one tour while in Tromsø I can't recommend this one enough. Seeing the Northern Lights is unforgettable experience and our guide Jordan made that possible. He was great at explaining the science behind the lights and history. If I ever come back to Tromsø I'd 100% take this tour again!

5.00Booked the tour with my 15 year old son. Doubted a little: lot of money, will it be worth it? Shouldn't I book a cheaper big bus tour? Well, we make the perfect choise! Vitek and Alba created this exiting atmosphere the moment we stepped on the minibus, without being overpromising. They are true experts, so genuine and we felt being taken care of. Alba took us to a lovely spot and we were lucky to see the most amazing Northern Light. The pictures with the light mirroring in the water are a great reminder of our amazing evening! And the vegan soup was truly lovely!

4.00We had a wonderful night. We are in our 70s but although it was a long night we could manage it and we did get to see the northern lights. Our guide Fabien and driver Evgeny were great, really helpful . The soup was fabulous too.

5.00This was an unforgettable night. Having done a small group tour one night already in Tromsø and not having the best experience I booked this tour for my last night and I honestly wish I had booked with Wandering Owl in the first place. All the details made a huge difference, we drove right out to a dark remote place and made a campfire in a quiet peaceful off road location. Not stood in a lay-by or road all night. They also brought an amazing soup and hot drinks. Our guide told us so much about Tromsø, on our way out the city, the surrounding area, wildlife and constantly talked us through what he was checking and the forecasts for the weather and aurora it really felt like we were part of it and helped pass the time. With a little patience we then got the most amazing display with the gorgeous backdrop of mountains and fjord. Sitting round the campfire listening to the water lapping on the shore and watching the aurora fill the sky I never wanted to leave. This is also an eco friendly tour which I really appreciated.

5.00I attended the trip a little skeptical that we would see lights given how fickle nature can be. But this tour (and nature!) did not disappoint. The sky put on quite a show and Fabien, our tour guide, was excellent. He found us the perfect spot and didn’t rush the experience. And special props to Osvaldo, our driver, who got us around expertly! Double thumbs up! I loved the smaller group nature of the experience and the soup and hot chocolate were tasty, too.

5.00The highlight of a two week trip in Scandinavia in February 2026. Alba was the best guide ever. He and his colleague Michael were fixated on finding the best place and time for Northern Lights and they came through. The campfire soup was delicious. Alba was kind, thoughtful, responsive and knowledgeable. He and Michael are just amazing people. The Lights were as spectacular as you would imagine. A must do.
