Come with us for your Aurora hunt for an amazing and ethical experience underneath the Aurora Borealis. Leave the light pollution in Tromsø behind and travel into the Arctic wilderness. During this tour, our small team of Aurora guides check the forecasts & use local knowledge to decide on the best place to chase the Northern Lights. When we find the best spot, we will dress in warm thermal suits and boots, make a cosy campfire, and enjoy a homemade meal.

You'll be shown how to use your camera, photograph the Aurora, and our guides will take photos of you, available for free in web-sized resolution after the tour.

During our time together in the wilderness, we will collect data for a citizen science project and help protect the Arctic nature through responsible tourism.

Enjoy our hot chocolate before being returned to Tromsø island to your hotel. Though there is never a guarantee of seeing this phenomenon, our experienced team will do their best every night of the season.

When exceptional situations arise (e.g. environmental cancellations) it is important to reach you. This is easiest if you provide your contact number on the road (phone number + correct country code) & keep this with you on the day of the tour.

We only drop off at set drop off locations: Scandic Ishavhotel, Smarthotel, AMIhotel, Vervet, Wandering Owl office, Airport, Arctic Cathedral, Tromsø Camping bus stop, Breivika Cruise Dock

Winter equipment is included, please give us your clothing and shoe sizes - fill out ewaiver form

Please advise any specific dietary requirements at time of booking as well as medical condition if needed

Please bring your passport with you in case you need to cross to Finland during the tour

Operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately. Make sure you wear a warm base layer, winter clothes including warm shoes, a hat, mittens, a scarf and woolen socks.

A small amount of walking is involved, you must be able to walk 200m

Please be prepared for limited toilet facilities, there will be a gas station stop during the drive, however the camp itself is in the wild Arctic nature where the only toilet possibilities are in the forest (there are no pre-built facilities).

Minimum numbers apply. There is a possibility of cancellation after confirmation if less than 4 passengers per tour. In the event of this occurring, you will be offered an alternative or full refund

We provide home-made vegan and gluten free soup

You must travel with travel insurance.

SIGN OUR eWAIVER. We need one participant to sign it on behalf of the group making sure that the names of all participants are in the document.

My guide Coen was super knowledgable, I went last Friday alone and never felt out of place as a solo traveller! The endless amount of knowledge was so interesting as I went a few nights on Northern lights tours, and the other nights the guides were quiet most of the drive, less informative, and while they still were great tours, this one was exceptional. I highly recommend to anyone considering to book Northern Lights in Norway to book with Wandering Owl , because even if you don't see the lights, you will have an amazing time with delicious homecooked food and cookies, and with a lot of informatoin about Tromso and the area. I never leave reviews but for me this was one of the best experiences of my life, and I really thank the team for providing it for. me! Our driver Michael was amazing as well, very helpful and got us there safely, so shoutout to him as well.

Magda and Michael were an amazing team, overcoming rain and snow to find gaps in the weather to witness 5-6 separate aurora! It was truly amazing for our family and we are incredibly grateful for their effort and hospitality. A wonderful experience and definitely recommend!!

The guide, Coen, was knowledgeable, but the whole experience was severely impacted by how crowded the minibus was. The absolute maximum capacity on the bus was 16 people and every seat was taken, including the four in the back row, two of which sat over wheel wells, meaning I could not stretch my legs out for the six+ hour journey, not did I have room to access my backpack pack. In fact, I could not even reach it in the overhead compartment without having the other people on the row get up and move out. We were packed like sardines, and really couldn't even adjust in our seats without disrupting the others. Compared to other operators, this was my least favorite tour, although the team tried to make it good for us.
Saw amazing multiple shows even at the low possibility.

Very nice atmosphere, knowledgeable host, fun experience. Unfortunately, due to the weather conditions our chase did not end up in seeing the aurora, but we did see wildlife and had some fun times together with the rest of the group

This trip was amazing. Our guide was very knowledgeable and took us to some spectacularly beautiful locations. We couldn't have asked fir a better Northern Lights experience. It was everything we hoped for and more. I will never forget it!
