  We did 4 nights with North Star. They did a great job hunting for the right spot for viewing. Had some cloud cover on 2 nights, total cloud cover one night and one night clear skies and awesome Auroras. Well worth the time and cost. Suggest hiring the clothes boots from them, as it is cold out there at night and normal boots and ski gear do not keep you warm for long.

  It was fun to see Amit and Taneisha getting excited. Especially, Taneysha-san told me a lot of stories and I learned a lot! This tour is even smaller, so if you don't like the light of others, I recommend it!

• Aurora hunting tour but were left disappointed

  We went on a 2 night Aurora hunting tour as family. We decided to go with north star adventures due to their stellar reviews. Our trip was short and we really wanted the best chances to view the Aurora. We were left pretty disappointed to be honest. The first night was very cloudy and were told that there would be very low chances to see the lights. We were picked up at 8:30pm and dropped back off at our hotel before 12:30am. I was watching the Aurora max tracker online and saw that less than 30 minutes later the sky completely cleared up and the Aurora was very visible. I would have hoped and expected that such a knowledgeable tour operator would have the experience to know that we should have gone out later, and also many other tour operators have longer tours. This is probably the most expensive Aurora hunting tour and we were glad to pay the price hoping that in return it would mean more experienced tour guides. The second night we were picked up at 10pm. The sky was perfectly clear and we saw the beautiful Aurora. It was breathtaking. We were moved a few times (I’m not sure why we did that considering we had amazing unobstructed views) and the last time the tour guide said we would go to a different location - we ended up spending 40 minutes driving in the van and we went straight into a very cloudy area and could not see anymore auroras. We then drove back but by then the clouds had completely set it in and there was nothing to see. We did get to enjoy the Aurora but the second location we were taken to, which is when the Aurora was at its best, was right off the road and there were electrical posts and wires so we were not able to get great pictures. And sadly we missed about the last 40 minutes of viewing the Aurora that night because we were driving in the van. Overall the Aurora was breathtaking so we tried to keep the experience positive. But thinking back all the points mentioned left us feeling very disappointed and felt like we wasted a lot of money. We could have simply gotten a cab to drive us out the city and sit by the road for less than 10% of the cost we actually payed. The positives were that the van was very comfortable and the tour guide was very nice and friendly.

  We came up to Yellowknife to see the Aurora but were blown away by the entire experience with the North Star staff, which felt like a family that we belonged to by the end. Through all the activities (dog sledding, city and cultural storytelling tours, ice fishing, ice road tour, and aurora hunting), we had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Joe, and I can’t think of a better person teach us about the land and its people. We were worried about being caught up in a non-local tourist trap, but North Star was anything but. This trip was truly magical for my husband and me, due in large part to Joe and the whole North Star team. We are already recommending that friends and family make the trek up, and are already thinking about our next adventure with North Star!

  Amazing tour. We had so much fun. The Aurora hunting was a great experience. The guides were great and super knowledgeable. Saige and Joe were excellent tour guides. Good mix of searching for Aurora’s with other activities, glow sticks, hot chocolate, Indigenous stories and drumming. They also took care of all the photography so we could get family photos and professional shots of the northern lights. They were also able to accommodate us with two young children. Very well organized. They were also super responsive to all my pre-trip questions.

  We had a great tour with North Star Adventure. We booked two nights and were able to visit different spots and see the aurora. The guides are knowledgeable and take great pictures! Thank you for having us.

  

• An unforgettable aurora experience!

  We had the most magical aurora hunting night with Lilly as our guide. She did an incredible job finding the perfect location, and the auroras that night were absolutely breathtaking. Lilly also took the most beautiful photos of the sky dancing above us, memories we’ll treasure forever. Beyond the lights, she made the entire experience so special by sharing beautiful stories, serving hot cocoa and maple cookies, and creating such a warm, cozy atmosphere under the bright aurora. To top it all off, she ended the night with a beautiful song that truly made the experience feel magical and complete. If that’s not going above and beyond, I don’t know what is. Thank you North Star Adventure for such an amazing, once in a lifetime experience.

  

  

• Aurora Hunting and Ice Roads Tour

  We spent a wonderful afternoon with Joe and Sage discovering the Ice Road. We had a lot of laughs, learned some interesting facts and took many fabulous photos. We loved it so much that we booked an aurora hunting tour that night! The staff was professional, knowledgable and VERY FUN! I would highly recommend North Star Adventures and if we make it back to Yellowknife we will book with them again.

  What a wonderful way to experience the auroras, sky, snow, and cultural heritage of the Yellowknife region. My family and I enjoyed a 5-night tour package that culminated in a spectacular New Year's Day aurora experience. I would go on another North Star Adventure again in a heartbeat!

• A once in a lifetime experience

  A five star plus Aurora Hunting tour! From start to finish, the tour exceeded all expectations. Our guide, Sage, and our driver were professional, charismatic, knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what they do. During the tour, Sage explained what we were seeing, answered questions, and shared history and legends of the places we passed. We also shared stories from where we are from and found commonalities and humor with both. Thanks to Sage’s expertise and experience, we were taken to excellent viewing spots and were fortunate enough to witness the Northern Lights dancing across the sky at each stop - absolutely breathtaking and magical. Sage also quietly evoked tribal calls out of respect for the Aurora and our viewing. This tour was a once in a lifetime experience and worth every moment.
