During our visit, you will have the opportunity to get to know the Mayan Kaqchiquel culture in an authentic way and the day-to-day life of local women who seek to make their routines their job. They will share their passions and concerns with you and we hope that you can too, to learn and enjoy diversity. Our experience is special because we are based on a regenerative tourism model, which can preserve culture and provide new ways of working for the future of women in Santa Cruz, having a 100% impact on the local economy.

Santa Cruz La Laguna
The women of the local team welcome us at the main pier and we walk around Santa Cruz, from the shore to the community, to learn about the customs, lifestyle and routines of the local people. We will know the main road from the pier to the local house where the workshop will be held. Depending on the house we will know one area or another. It is possible to go up in a tuktuk if the traveler prefers.
Santa Cruz La Laguna
The main venue will be a local house, depending on the shifts of the women on the team. The following activities will take place there: TRADITIONAL CUISINE: We cook together tourists and women in a wood-fired kitchen in a home, to learn how to cook typical recipes, such as tamale, tamalitos, tortillas or puliki. Then we enjoyed eating what we made together. CRAFT WORKSHOPS: Introduction to fabric making and/or handmade jewelry. We learn to lay the initial thread for sewing, create our first piece of jewelry and dress in traditional Santa Cruz dress. TEMAZCAL EXPERIENCE: We disconnect and live the local experience of temazcal use, a low adobe house where steam baths are taken.

My wife and I visited Lake Atitlan in May and this was definitely our favorite experience. Our guide, Juanita, was a kind and welcoming guide who went out of her way to make us feel at home and to help us learn. She told us all about life around Lake Atitlan and we did a lot of fun activities. She taught us how to do beadwork and we got to make some very nice bead jewelry to take home. She showed us how the sweat lodge works, but I was a little too hot already to go in lol. And she showed us how to make a delicious, authentic celebratory meal. It was the best food we had in all of Guatemala. She and her family were truly the best people we met on our trip, and we hope we can do the tour again to learn even more. This was our favorite tour of our trip to Lake Atitlan and I highly recommend it to anyone!

We had an amazing time with Pauline & Elena & our translator Julie in Santa cruz. We were graciously welcomed into their home where they taught us how to cook a traditional mayan meal, bead bracelets & weave. We made pepian & tortillas, the meal was the best pepian we had in all of guatemala. We definitely recommend this experience to anyone wanting to learn more about the mayan culture in Guatemala. We also recommend an english translator if available. We were able to speak in spanish with the woman as well. We would love to go back & visit again one day. We are so thankful for our time with Pauline, Elena & Julie.

We were so excited as the reviews and description for this experience looked amazing. Unfortunately, we waited for the hosts at the meeting place for an hour. They did not respond to any messages and we ended up getting a refund. So sad :(

What an amazing experience this was. The ladies met us and took us back to their home for a great authentic jewelry and cooking lesson. The 2 women were very nice and even with a language barrier, they helped us every step of the way. The food turned out delicious.

We went all the way to Santa Cruz with our ticket confirmed the night before and they were not there. We contacted the tour directly and they said we had cancelled which we did not.

We loved having this cultural experience during our last full day in Guatemala. Ana and Francisca were very accommodating and patient with us. We had a great time cooking traditional Guatemalan food and the temazcal was surprisingly relaxing. We would highly recommend this experience for anyone interested in learning more about Guatemalan culture.

The most authentic experience we had in Guatemala. Las mujeres de la luna were incredibly welcoming even though we did not speak perfect Spanish. They welcomed us into their home and were super fun to vibe with!! the weaving was our favorite part! it was such a fun process and so nice to take home our work! as well, the tamalitos de chiplin we helped prepare were sooooo good!!! and of course, the temezcal was so relaxing. overall, we learned so much!! Definitely different from our other touristy experiences around lake Atitlan. could not recommend more.

This was a very interesting and eye-opening experience. The host family was very gracious in opening their home to us. My only recommendation would be that if you don't speak Spanish, make it clear that you will need a translator.

We absolutely loved our time with the Mujeres de la Luna, it was the highlight of our trip to Lake Atitlan. Getting to weave our own napkins, and cook our own Guatemalan meal was so interesting and fun. The women were so patient when teaching us how to weave, and how to make tamales. We also appreciated Miguel translating for us as we aren’t fluent in Spanish. I would strongly recommend this experience to anyone looking to better understand the Guatemalan culture!
