This isn’t just a cooking class — it’s an authentic Costa Rican home experience. You’ll step into Elizabeth’s family kitchen, surrounded by the aromas of fresh local ingredients and the charm of a real Monteverde home. Unlike larger, tourist-focused classes, this is an intimate, hands-on experience where you not only learn recipes but also share stories, laughter, and a homemade meal around the table. Every dish is prepared the way locals have done for generations, making it a true taste of Costa Rican culture.
Join me in my home near Santa Elena for an authentic Costa Rican cooking experience in Monteverde. This is a hands-on, small-group class in a warm and welcoming setting. You’ll be introduced to fresh, locally sourced ingredients and learn to cook traditional dishes step by step, such as handmade tortillas, rice and beans, plantains, and seasonal sides. The menu varies depending on what’s available—just like in Costa Rican homes. As we cook together, I’ll share techniques and the cultural meaning behind the food. At the end, we’ll sit down and enjoy the meal family-style in a relaxed atmosphere. Shared classes are offered as daytime lunch experiences from Monday to Saturday at 10:00 AM and last approximately 3 hours. A shared dinner class is available on Saturdays. The experience is suitable for all skill levels, and vegetarian, vegan, and other dietary needs can be accommodated with advance notice.

Elisabeth, my cooking guide, was kind and helpful. She taught me about some new foods, including chayote, achiote, plantains and what “gallo” meant in pico de gallo. We had a great conversation during cooking, eating, and afterwards. I felt right at home as we shared our own stories. In addition, there was some confusion around transportation, and she stepped up to take care of it, no problem. To me this shows her strong engagement with this business. I would definitely recommend her.
