Traditionally shared during weddings and other celebrations, banana juice and beer has long been a central part of Rwandan parties. Although nowadays banana juice can be easily bought from the local store, the traditional technique for making your own brew is a much greater labour of love. Experience the whole process from tree to bottle.

Arrive at the centre. Here you will have a briefing before departing to the rural community. Here you will be welcomed by artisans and meet the family that will be your hosts for the day. The the days activities start by cutting and collecting green bananas, then digging a hole in the ground to bury the green bananas to become ripe. You can then help fetch water or continue to help with food preparation. Then a traditional Rwandan lunch will be served e.g. cassava and beans. This is a good time to ask your hosts about life in their community. They may have questions for you too about life in your home country. After an hour at lunch you will dig up the ripe bananas and start the juice-making process using traditional techniques. This will take approximately 2 hours. You will depart the rural community and be transferred back to the centre for a cold drink and debrief before shopping for gifts and souvenirs at the store.

5.00We had the best time! The ladies welcomed my husband and I with open arms. The experience we so never forget. It was my first time being in the village but with my husband it brought back memories. The juice was so tasty. Hard work payed off. The best part was dancing and laughing at the end.

4.00I had the chance to visit a local community and be hosted by one of the ladies for a short while. They gladly dressed me in their traditional attire, and showed the process of banana juice making. We also weaved and fetched the crops for the cow just like they do everyday! I had to balance the crops on my head and walk through a fairly rough terrain. The ladies were very welcoming, caring and patient to teach their skills It really was a great feeling to actually be part of their daily chores and walk in their steps. It really helped me connect and understand the simple basic life they live everyday, that many of us long for in city life

5.00The experience at this local village was amazing and one of the best one could ask for!! I had the experience of banana juice making and feeding the cows from harvesting nappier grass from the village. Such an awesome experience
