On this Banjul City Tour we will be visiting some of the main attractions for people who are interested in history! During this tour we will visit the Arch 22, Gambia National Museum and the Albert Market which is named after Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert.
Entrance fees to the Arch 22, 200GMD (2025) and the National Museum 200GMD (2025) are not included.
Be aware that most places in the Gambia only accept cash and no credit cards.

Arch 22
The Arch 22 is a monument located in on the Banjul-Serrekunda Highway. The monument was built to mark the military coup in 1994 through which former president Yahya Jammeh came to power. The arch is 35 meters high and is designed by a senegalese architect called Pierre Goudiaby Atepa. Goudiaby Atepa hasdesigned a lot of interesting buildings such as the BCEAO bank headquarters in Dakar and the ECOWAS building in Lomé, Togo. You also find the Arch depicted on the back of the 100 dalasi. The lift to the Arch is not always working so you might have to climb some stairs.
The National museum of the Gambia presents historical and cultural artefacts from the colonial history of the Gambia. The museum opened in 1985 and has an archeological section and also a historical section. The exhibitions are curated by mr Hassoum Ceesay who is a well known historian. If you are interested knowing more about the history of the Gambia – this is the place to go!

5.00I had an excellent day tour of Banjul City and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The tour provided a great introduction to the history, culture, and daily life of The Gambia. Some of the highlights included visiting Arch 22, which offered impressive views of the city, exploring the Gambia National Museum and learning more about the country's rich heritage, and experiencing the vibrant atmosphere of the Royal Albert Market, where I had the opportunity to see local vendors and products. A special thank you to my tour guide, Omar, who was outstanding throughout the day. He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about sharing information about The Gambia. In addition to providing historical and cultural insights, he offered excellent recommendations for restaurants and other activities, which made my visit even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting The Gambia. It was informative, well-organized, and a wonderful way to experience Banjul. Thanks again to Omar for making it such a memorable day.

5.00We had an interesting experience discovering Banjul with our driver, Amet. He was very friendly, guided us well, and made the tour enjoyable. At the beginning, we had some difficulty finding each other, but once we connected everything went smoothly. The car was clean and comfortable, and Amet even offered us additional ideas and places to discover. Overall, it was a very good and authentic way to experience Banjul, especially considering the local conditions and the warm effort put into the tour.

5.00I hired this company somewhat last-minute due to a flight cancellation from Senegal. I had them pick me up from the airport and have me go on a half-day city tour of Banjul, which was super stress-free with phenomenal communication from the owner. The tour was fantastic! I visited all the sites that are worth seeing in the capital city and the highlight for me was definitely the vibrant market. The tour was a great value and I definitely recommend using this company if you visit Gambia.

5.00Very nice and easy going trip The museums are a bit old and dusty but very interesting. We even got a performance of the Gambia national anthem.. Our vist to the market was a different but good experience. I especially want to mention our guide Jarry for her knowledge and sweet smile.

5.00Organised excellently, very prompt and positive, the guide Jarry and drive Sanku are quite friendly and accommodative, Jarry in particular is knowledgeable and her inputs helped me to understand and appreciate the heritage, culture and traditions of the people of Gambia. She helped me to buy some souvenirs from the local market and also to present my book to Gambian National Library, this is a wonderful agency, traveller friendly and responsive. I will definitely recommend them to anyone visiting Banjul.

4.00Easy meet up outside the port gates. Very good guide. Traffic police are to be wary of, stopped 4 times for 'document' check so don't leave it too late to head back to the port.
