  Loved it. Newcastle is a great city with lovely bars, loads of craft beers and the food is amazing. Shopping is also great. There is lots to do outside the city. We visited Beamish, Hadrians Wall, Alnwick Castle and Bamburgh Castle. If travelling from the south, the train service from London is also first class.

  So much to do and see! We brought the annual pass and spent the day here. I am amazed at how much there is to do, and just how huge this place is. I will certainly be coming back as we didn't manage to get around the whole site on one day. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. The annual pass is an absolute bargain.

  We went the 24th because we had heard that everything was in Christmas spirit and we were not disappointed. You did have to wait long lines at the cash register and also with an online ticket you had to be patient. At the box office I understood that because you were welcomed and given good explanations about what happened in the park that day. 450 volunteers n all dressed to the theme and where they performed their act entirely in the style of the corresponding time. Really down to the last detail everything was worked out. Highlights were the mining village, the mine itself and the 1900 village with nice pub and various shops and businesses. In the church of the mining village a choir sang Christmas carols and Christmas decorations were everywhere. The volunteers were super welcoming and helpful. They knew a lot about their role or theme. We didn't get to see everything and that was a shame but we enjoyed it, it was enjoyment a lot of memories of what it was like at grandpa and grandma, were brought back to life!

  

  

  

  

  

  

  

  

• Wonderful Living Museum

  We always wanted to visit the museum and we were not disappointed. We had a wonderful experience visiting all the different area's. The staff are excellent and very knowledgeable throughout the park. We visited over two days as you need that time in our opinion to take it all in.

  So much better than a normal museum mainly because of all the volunteer workers who interact in character and know so much about the era they are representing. The visit to the mine will live long in my memory as I had to bend so low to walk how on earth the miners managed is beyond me. Seeing pictures of miners working in an 18” high seam made me wonder how much of their body was covered in cuts and bruises and no doubt scabs. I have a greater understanding of the courage of these people now. The rest of the museum was as good especially the 1950s street but it’s churlish to pick one over the over. A great day for all the family for sure

  Well! After years of planning a visit as it's a 3 or so hour drive from Leicester. to much to see in 1 day (we came sunday and Monday from 10 am until 4 pm). Return free for the year, so now we have no choice but to return! staying at the premier inn in Washington was perfect! We found that Monday was much easier to get into the sweet shop/bakers, etc. Worth the money beyond words, the mine was brilliant, just us 3 and the guide, and he was great with our son who is naturally very quiet. Trams, etc, are easier to get on weekdays and from the more remote areas. Get to the chippy for about half 11 or go to the one in the pit village as the ques are smaller and you won't be disappointed, limited benches but on a nice day, pop your bum on the grass! plenty of places to perch. 10yo loved explaining what was happening in the viewing area at the sweetshop (you tube fan, lol). Staff were lovely, great to see them so in character! Fish and chips, sausage roll, chocolate cake, cherry cake, and were all delicious! When you consider the cost of today's fish and chips, it's actually quite cheap, haha. Love that you can get up to date cider (being regulars at the Black Country means we are used to time period drinks that aren't carbonated). We saw everything in 2 days but feel we need 3rd just for a general wander! If we lived close by, this would be our go-to place for sure! gutted, we have to go home! Beamish! thank you!   The whole of Beamish Museum is fantastic plus the suffragettes were excellent and the wheelchair access vehicle is great.
