This is an open enrollment rock climbing program suitable for everyone from the first-timer to the experienced climber. If you are looking to have fun and get a little exercise, meet some new people, and explore Joshua Tree National Park, all for a great price, this one is for you!

We will provide all of the necessary safety and climbing equipment.
Participants are required to drive into the National Park in their own vehicle. Mojave Guides cannot provide transportation to and from the climbing site.

5.00Such an amazing experience!! Our family of 4(2 adult children) had the best time. Our instructor (Murphy) was incredible in explaining everything-he has a ♡ of climbing and Joshua Tree. We also always felt secure and safe. All four of us pushed thru what we thought might be our ‘limits’. I highly recommend Mojave and Murphy. Thank you for such an amazing and awesome day!!

5.00Great experience, truly enjoyable and guide was very knowledgeable. Things to remember to have long sleeve and pants protect you when you slip and gloves are a plus to protect your palms.

5.00Great experience with James Murphy as our guide. It was a highlight of our trip and this group of first time outdoor climbers is eager to climb again! Murphy was very positive, explained things well, put safety first, and taught our family group a ton about the mental, physical and technical aspects of climbing. He kept it simple, fun and engaging for the whole session. Taught us all that climbing is about failing and overcoming those failures, and gave us the training and encouragement to allow us to achieve our goals (we loved that he started the day asking us about our goals and then helped us identify and accomplish them as the day progressed). Catered to varied skills and needs expertly, from a Mom who was a bit hesitant to Dad and Daughters 20 and 17 who were eager to learn and explore. We highly recommend Murphy and Mojave Guides if you are thinking about climbing at JT NP. It’s an amazing place and even more amazing when you are climbing!

Amazing First Outdoor Climbing Experience

5.00I had an amazing experience with Mojave Guide Emery in Joshua Tree! We did two top-rope climbs, and he was incredibly professional, knowledgeable about the area, and, most importantly, made me feel completely safe—like, zero chance of dying, which is always a plus. As a first-time outdoor climber, I really appreciated how patient Emery was. He explained the techniques clearly, answered all my questions, and helped me work through the routes in a way that made me feel comfortable. The climbs were the perfect level of difficulty—challenging and just outside my comfort zone, but never in a way that felt unsafe. Beyond climbing, Emery made the whole experience fun and engaging. We explored some caves by scrambling under rocks, which was an unexpected highlight. He also pointed out cool rock formations, plants, and shared fun facts about the area, which added so much to the adventure. Overall, Emery is a fantastic guide and great company. Whether you're a beginner or experienced climber, I’d 10/10 recommend!

5.00As true beginners we were pretty excited. Our guide Taylor was patient and very relaxed- which in turn made us relaxed. Couldn’t recommend Taylor more- he was skilled, friendly and surprisingly funny.

5.00This was a fabulous experience from planning through the end when our fabulous guide Nolan took the time to text us lunch restaurant suggestions. We enjoyed an amazing 1/2 day experience with rock climbing and hiking/scrambling with myself, husband and 10 year old. Our guide Nolan was thoughtful, kind, funny and great with all of our skill levels. We were pushed to have fun and experience new things while we felt safe and taken care of. I would not hesitate to book with them again. In fact when we do come back to this area to visit we will book again. My very “stoic” son said multiple times out loud “ I love everything about this place”. Well done!

5.00We had such a great time with our guide Taylor!!! My husband (45), my daughter (13), my son (10), and I (44) have never done any rock climbing. Taylor was so friendly, fun, and taught us all about knot-tying, climbing technique, and safety. He also told us funny and interesting anecdotes and history about the Park. Taylor set up two routes for us that were different and challenging - slab climbing and crack climbing. He was so patient helping us climb and we were all able to get to the top of the slab! I was so impressed with how he worked with our kids, who each had moments of uncertainty about the climb. Taylor even went up with our son to help him find the holds so that he could successfully get up to the ledge. I could go on and on about how wonderful, exciting, and fun our experience was with Taylor and Mojave Guides!!! Taylor went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time! Thank you Taylor! Cheers!

5.00My daughter and myself had a fantastic time with Andrew. I would recommend him to anyone from very beginner to more advanced level. He made sure we get all support and encouragement we need to conquer the walls. He made us feel safe, well-protected, and challenged within our abilities. Andrew is just a great human being and was fun to have on this 4 hr. climbing adventure.
Magnificent Murph and the Mojave Guides

5.00This was by far the highlight of my trip to Joshua Tree. I am not an experienced climber - as in, I have repelled like twice as a youngster, and have done indoor climbing only a handful of times - and this was perfect. I shared that I am pretty athletic and Murph picked out the perfect places to show me the ropes (pun intended. Also said ropes and all other safety equipment is adequately provided.) The first climb at The Chief was challenging, but doable, and Murph was encouraging and a great coach. I learned so much! And then - The Casm of Doom Scramble. If you want to feel like you’re in an Indiana Jones movie, make sure you do this run IT. WAS. AWESOME. Murph was such a fun guide; we started as acquaintances and left as friends, hugs and all when the time was through. Don’t look anywhere else for climbing guides in JT - you found everything you need right here with Mojave Guides.
