  We booked this trip as we had a very limited time in Shanghai, and the booking process was very good as Sunny kept in touch to keep us informed of the weather and travel requirements. We chose to travel first class on the Bullet train, which was very comfortable and worth the extra cost. It is a long day starting at 06.50 and returning to our hotel just after midnight. From start to finish, we were looked after with pick up from our hotel lobby, taken to the station, and shown to our seats on the train. The journey travelling at 350 km/h was very smooth. Upon our arrival in Beijing, we were met by Summer, our guide for our trip to the Great Wall of China. Summer was fantastic, she was very knowledgeable about the history of the Great Wall, and was very helpful in taking pictures of my wife and me. We stopped for a quick lunch at Subway before taking the cable car to the top (if that's not your fancy, there are other options available to eat). Summer made sure we went to the best places to get the most amazing views for photographs. We were there at the end of January, so it was very cold, so be prepared with warm clothing. After we had seen the best of the views, we returned down to the starting point on the open ski chairlift (there is another option for returning down by toboggan if you are under 60 years old). We would highly recommend this excursion for those on a tight schedule. It was worth every penny. Summer was a great guide and got us back to the station in Beijing and on to our train back to Shanghai, where we were met again by our driver, who returned us to our hotel.   We really enjoyed our trip to the Great Wall! Definitely worth it if you have a full day available from Shanghai. Everything was handled smoothly and efficiently, from door to door. Our guide, Summer was really lovely. She talked about the Great Wall during all of its various changes during the different dynasties and how each area was built and the stories behind it all. Quite interesting to hear & learned somethings along the way. Everything from the train to the tobagan - was handled with care. We will see you again, Summer!   My trip to the Great Wall of China was absolutely amazing and truly unforgettable. Standing on such an iconic and historic landmark was breathtaking, with incredible views in every direction. The experience was made even better by our tour guide, Summer, who was fantastic. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and shared fascinating stories and history that really brought the Great Wall to life. Everything was well organized, and I felt taken care of the entire time. This was easily one of the highlights of my trip to China, and I highly recommend this tour—especially with Summer as your guide!

  This tour was so amazing! We chose to do this tour last minute while in Shanghai and it was the best decision and experience ever! Summer, our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly.   This is fantastic day trip from Shanghai to the Great Wall, if you are not able to spend some nights in Beijing. The tour company provided excellent service throughout - hotel pickup at Shanghai at early morning, escorting us to our seats on the train, round trip private transportation to/from Beijing train station and the Great Wall, relaxing guided tour of the Great Wall and hotel drop off when we arrived back at Shanghai train station at night. Our English speaking tour guide Summer was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional; she managed time very well, while ensuring we had sufficient time to experience the Great Wall. The tour operator Sunny stayed in touch with us throughout the day to ensure that everything was smooth. It was a long day overall and there was no time for restaurant meals, but we were content with fast food at the train stations and a lunch at Subway (located at the entrance to the Great Wall). We left with a great impression and would highly recommend this tour to anyone who just wants to take a day trip from Shanghai to the Great Wall. Ask for Summer as your tour guide!

  The trip to Mutianyu Great Wall was well organised by the team. Sunny, our virtual point of contact helped out with the itinerary, train tickets and plan for the entire trip. Summer, was our guide for the day and she was excellent and very kind to be dealt with. A day trip to Great Wall especially with cab and trains in the itinerary can be challenging as we have to keep up time so that we don’t miss our ride back home. Summer, took the lead in ensuring our safety and kept us on time without losing out on the sight seeing activities. It was a great day and memorable trip.

  Although it’s a long day, I would recommend everyone going to the Great Wall. Our drivers and guide Summer were great! We were taken from our hotel lobby and escorted through security and ticket checkpoints by our first driver who took us directly to our seats on the train. We had instructions on how to meet the Beijing guides at the train station and we were driven to the wall by 1:00ish. Summer took awesome pictures for us at the wall! we took the cable car up and the toboggan down. We had a wonderful dinner of dumplings at the train station and took the train back where we were greeted by the same driver and taken promptly back to our hotel by midnight. Drivers were excellent at driving through horrible traffic. Tips: We did not get a chance to eat lunch until 1:00 and we didn’t advocate for ourselves to stop at a place at the train station in the am to get warm food before the train left at 7am. The driver was efficient and took us directly to the train. Lunch should be earlier at the train station and before we drove for 1.5 hrs to the Great Wall. I did not mind Subway at 1:00pm but we should also get food beforehand at 11:30 at least. It would be nice to have a photo of our tickets sent to our phone when we are on the train going to Beijing. Summer was on top of things and sent us a snapshot of our tickets for the way back to Shanghai, but if anything had gone wrong on the way there I had no evidence of our tickets or our seat numbers. Also over 60 year olds aren’t allowed on the toboggan so that would we nice to know prior to buying the tickets. Overall, it was nice to have someone dealing with all the logistics in Chinese so we did not get lost, we had closer parking and we didn’t have communication issues when ordering food or going through ticket booths or subway stations. Going on our own would have been hellishly difficult and this tour made it so we could fit it into our Shanghai schedule without staying a night in Beijing. Last tip: pay extra for the first class seats, you won’t regret it!

  We booked the Beijing Great Wall Private Day Tour from Shanghai by Bullet Train and it was absolutely outstanding! From beginning to end, everything ran so smoothly and was perfectly organized. Our private driver picked us up right from our Shanghai hotel and personally escorted us all the way to our bullet train seats. He even provided detailed paper instructions to help us meet our Beijing driver and tour guide when we arrived — such a thoughtful touch! The bullet train was spotless, comfortable, and impressively on time for the 4-hour ride. When we arrived in Beijing, we were immediately greeted by our driver and tour guide, Summer, holding a sign with our name — no stress, no confusion! The luxury van for our 2-hour drive to the Great Wall was excellent: clean, roomy, great legroom, massage seats, and cool A/C, which was a huge plus in the heat. Along the drive, Summer shared fascinating insights about Beijing’s architecture, history, and culture, making the ride both educational and enjoyable. Before heading up to the wall, we stopped at a Subway restaurant near the Mutianyu entrance for a quick meal and restroom break — a great way to recharge before the climb. We took the cable car up to Tower #15, and the views were breathtaking. Summer continued to provide wonderful commentary about the Great Wall’s history and the surrounding landscape. Be prepared — the Wall itself has uneven steps, steep sections, and non-ADA-compliant terrain, so wear good shoes and watch your footing, especially if you have any mobility concerns. We took the “easier” route from Tower #15 to #5, but it was still quite the workout! The highlight of the trip was taking the Toboggan ride down — an absolute must-do! It was so much fun and easy to control your speed, making it a thrilling but safe experience. On the return trip, Beijing traffic became very heavy, and our driver smartly suggested switching to the subway to ensure we made it to the train station in time. Summer handled everything seamlessly, guided us through the subway, and we arrived with plenty of time to relax and enjoy dinner before boarding our train back to Shanghai. When we returned to Shanghai around 11:30 PM, our same friendly driver was waiting to take us back to our hotel — a perfect ending to a long but wonderful day. This tour was exceptionally well-organized, stress-free, and unforgettable. If you’re considering a one-day Great Wall trip from Shanghai, don’t hesitate — it’s absolutely worth it! Highly recommend Summer as your tour guide — knowledgeable, caring, and a true professional who made the entire experience unforgettable.

  

• Great Wall of China-Mutianyu Day Trip From Shanghai

  Although this was a very long day, it was so worth it! Picked up by taxi by Charlie who escorted us right to our seats on the train. Travelling at over 400km per hour first class on a very clean, smooth train with snacks provided was something never experienced before. Our guide Sophia was waiting for us at the station in Beijing & escorted us to a taxi & stayed with us for the rest of the day. She was friendly & knowledgeable, her English was excellent & we enjoyed her company immensely. She guided us every step of the way, given how time limited we were, we couldn’t have done it without her. The traffic on our return was very heavy but Sophia escorted us to the platform. & made sure we made the return train trip. Our taxi man Charlie was waiting for us at Shanghai train station & took us back to our hotel. This trip is not cheap but well worth it. Things to note, the stop for food on the way up is not cheap but is served swiftly. The climb to the Wall itself is very steep & not suited to people with walking sticks or any mobility issues. Wear good walking shoes & use insecticide spray/wipes. Would highly recommend.
