Get set for Kolkata’s finest food tour. Greet your guide and take the subway up to the intellectual heart of the city. Here the Bengal revolutionary fighter Subhas Chandras Bose is more famous than Gandhi and the people are passionate about their rights and independence, not to mention their food.
The evening starts at a little street vendor that blends up one of the district's best tropical lasses. Afterwards, you'll hop from spot to spot tasting some fine Bengali fare - prawns covered in fragrant coconut milk curry, onion bahjis from a revolutionary food stand, succulent mutton kosha and a range of Bengali sweets to name just a few. Finish at one of the oldest colonial coffee houses in Kolkata where nearby university students descend for intellectual discussions.

Visit Kolkata's most celebrated local seafood restaurants where you'll try their signature prawns covered in chingri coconut cream sauce and a mouth-watering curried fish mousse steamed in a banana leaf. After leaving you'll clamber aboard one of the old richshaws, the only place where these wooden carts still exist in India and take a short tour of the area en route to the next foodie stop. Gorge on a prawn kabiraji at a legendary kitchen started by a Scot in the 19th Century. Kolkata might seem busy, but your guide will take you on a walk down through a peaceful district pointing out temples and local life along the way. As you meander the backstreets of old Kolkata, you'll try tasty tidbits from the city's most famous onion bhajis to zingy gram salads made from herbs and pulses.

4.00The Bengali nights food tour provided a good mix of Indian foods from different locations in the city, providing an authentic street food experience while also combining it with a tour of the historic center of the city. Some of the items we tried included a traditional mutton Curry, a unique take on mangola c, a dish called egg devil, which was a variant of Scotch eggs using a duck egg, a fried jumbo lobster shrimp, puchkas, Pakodas, Sherbet and traditional Bengali sweets. Chances missing the tour lasted roughly 4 and 1/2 hours and also included experiences through local modes of transportation including Metro, rickshaw and bus. Overall, my only feedback would be to replace some of the generic Indian food items with once specific to Kolkata/ West Bengal, for example traditional Bengali, fish curry, kati rolls, etc.

5.00I had the experience of a lifetime! I enjoyed the various means of transportation and the walking tour of old Kolkata but best of all the food tastings were absolutely delicious. The guide was very knowledgeable of the history and culture. I enjoyed my conversation with him. I highly recommend this tour!

5.00Excellent experience with Avik, who introduced my friend and I to Kolkata and its food. Avik was even kind enough to accept my friend though it was a last minute request. A tour you should definitely try (even if you think you know Kolkata)

In addition to getting to eat some delicious food (including some absolutely can’t-miss mutton), the tour is well organized and provides travelers with a behind-the-scenes look into the various facets of life in Kolkata, touching on history, culture, and socioeconomics. Avik’s passion is evident through all aspects of the tour, and he is eager to share his passion with his guests. This tour provides something new and different for everyone, even those who may already be fairly familiar with India or even Kolkata. We would highly recommend it for an enjoyable evening of new experiences!

5.00Wonderful experience! Our guide Avilas was very knowledgeable and took us on corners we would have never ventured on our own. The food choices and their order in the tour were beautifully planned. Food was delicious and it had a little for everybody. I also enjoyed going in the different transportation methods. We wouldn’t be so confident doing it on our own, and now we might after having the experience. Finally, we were delighted with little details that the guide made sure to personalize for each person. If you’re a foodie looking for fun experience, we highly recommend this tour!
