The Nazaré canyon, a natural formation making a massively deep and large hole in the sea floor right next to the shoreline, creates massive waves that make this spot, Praia do Norte, a Meca for adventurous surfers all around the world. The canyon also hides a Nazi submarine, which was sunk there on purpose never to be found again...

We will also visit the Sanctuary and Memory Chapel, and will be able to have a breathtaking view of Nazaré and a great deal of the Silver Coast shore (all the way to the Berlengas Islands).

Last but for sure not least, you will also get to know Nazaré itself, a one-of-a-kind traditional fishing village, its narrow alleys facing the sea, and its old traditions like the “Dry Fish” and the puzzling “sights” of local women wearing their famous seven skirts.

Joao Pedro was wonderful. The tour was very interesting and informative. Joao was great to give us all kinds of history and stories of the region. I would recommend this tour to everyone.

The tour was very good, lots of information, so we could easily imagine the old Nazare. Our guide responded to all wishes and also took into consideration the pace.

We had a fantastic experience with Joao Pedro (JP). He knows the town of Nazaré so well, having grown up in the town--and returning to live here after working abroad. We enjoyed hearing about the history of the town, and its significance in a broader context - for religious pilgrims, and for modern day surfers! And he wove in stories from his personal experience.

Our tour guide was excellent. He highlighted all of the great spots in Nazarre. He provided the history and culture. The trip to the fort and seeing where the 100 foot waves are was awesome. Highly recommend

Our first day in Nazare and we spent the afternoon with JP. JP gave us an overview on what our tour would entail and off we went. We saw everything we hoped to. Since JP was local he was full of knowledge that he generously shared with us along with personal stories on his life in this beautiful area. Would definitely recommend JP as a guide. We came away knowing so much more about Nazare! Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.

The guide, Ivo, was very informative so I learned a lot about the history of Nazare. The Sanctuary and the fort are very impressive. Although it was an overcast day, the views from the fort are spectacular. This was billed as a walking tour but we actually did not do too much walking so I think the description should probably be changed to reflect that the guide drives you from the center of town up to the top for the other sights.
