Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral

Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral, built in the late 1880s by French colonists, is one of the few remaining strongholds of Catholicism in the largely Buddhist Vietnam. Located in Paris Square, the name Notre Dame was given after the installation of the statue ‘Peaceful Notre Dame’ in 1959. In 1962, the Vatican conferred the Cathedral status as a basilica and gave it the official name of Saigon Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica. Measuring almost 60 metres in height, the cathedral’s distinctive neo-Romanesque features include the all-red brick façade (which were imported from Marseille), stained glass windows, two bell towers containing six bronze bells that still ring to this day, and a peaceful garden setting in the middle of downtown Ho Chi Minh City District 1.

Saigon Central Post Office

The Central Post Office in Ho Chi Minh is a beautifully preserved remnant of French colonial times and perhaps the grandest post office in all of Southeast Asia. Located next door to Notre Dame Cathedral, the two cultural sites can be visited together and offers visitors a chance to imagine life in Vietnam during the times of the Indochinese Empire. The building was designed by Alfred Foulhoux and features arched windows and wooden shutters, just as it would have in its heyday in the late 19th Century.

Minh really opened our eyes to the difficult past of Ho Chi Minh City as well as the bright future ahead. He is very passionate about “his city” and truly desired to show us everything. From helping us find specific souvenirs to taking us to the BEST Banh Mi & Pho restaurants. This was a trip we will never forget. He made us fall in love & want to come back & spend so much more time here exploring! Great job, Minh! We appreciate you!

We took a full day private tour of highlights in Ho Chi Minh with Barney, who is one of the best tour guides I can ever remember going with, and I have traveled to many places and used guide services many times before. Barney is knowledgeable, enthusiastic, considerate, and fun!! He clearly enjoys sharing Vietnamese culture, history, cuisine, and off-the-beaten-path places, as well as all of the “must do” highlights. He timed out our experiences perfectly, allowing enough time to ask questions and take a slow pace, but still covered all of the important sites. His thoughtful itinerary enables us to avoid the most crowded times and move efficiently through our experiences of places like the Independence Palace, War Remnants Museum, Post Office, Opera House, and local places for lunch and coffee. The tour was literally just perfect, and I would highly recommend this tour with Barney to ANYONE.

We had a great day trip to HCMC from Puy My port. Minh had everything planned and met us at the port gate with a great driver. After a hour and a half drive to HCMC we were able to fit in many of the highlights of the city. The lunch stop for Bahn Mi sandwiches was incredible. Thank you so much for the tour Minh.

Ms Than was an excellent guide. She adapted to what we wanted to do, see the pagodas and temples as well as get an introduction and experience of the city. Her explanations were of sufficient depth to help our understanding of the region’s and religious history. We greatly appreciated the driver’s patience through unbridled traffic with scooters swirling in all directions Thank you both.

Excellent way to absorb the essence of Ho Chi Minh City in one day. Our guide Sarah was so friendly, knowledgeable and fun to be with. We explored so much of the history, as well as current life, in the comfort of a large van with a great driver. The tour was flexible to our desires. I especially enjoyed the fascinating street markets, coffee shop and historic sites.

Its good guide was knowledgeable. Tour include luch but luch budget was very low. Guide took us some good restaurant but we end up to paying 75% of the cast. Guide said that budget is for street food only. Due to timing we only able to finish couple of places.
