Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral

Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral, built in the late 1880s by French colonists, is one of the few remaining strongholds of Catholicism in the largely Buddhist Vietnam. Located in Paris Square, the name Notre Dame was given after the installation of the statue ‘Peaceful Notre Dame’ in 1959. In 1962, the Vatican conferred the Cathedral status as a basilica and gave it the official name of Saigon Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica. Measuring almost 60 metres in height, the cathedral’s distinctive neo-Romanesque features include the all-red brick façade (which were imported from Marseille), stained glass windows, two bell towers containing six bronze bells that still ring to this day, and a peaceful garden setting in the middle of downtown Ho Chi Minh City District 1.

Saigon Central Post Office

The Central Post Office in Ho Chi Minh is a beautifully preserved remnant of French colonial times and perhaps the grandest post office in all of Southeast Asia. Located next door to Notre Dame Cathedral, the two cultural sites can be visited together and offers visitors a chance to imagine life in Vietnam during the times of the Indochinese Empire. The building was designed by Alfred Foulhoux and features arched windows and wooden shutters, just as it would have in its heyday in the late 19th Century.

Smooth port pick up with lots of historical background on the way to the city. We then agreed an itinerary that left us enough time to get back to the port in ample time. Peter then took us around lots of interesting places with lots of info. A nice stop of for coffee and for lunch and Peter even went out of his way looking for a bottle of Vietnamese beer for me to try while we were waiting for our order. A 'must do' is the War Remnants museum. Lots of powerful images and stories and a few tears shed around me. All in all Ho Chi Minh City is a fascinating place with a fascinating and sad history and this tour made me want to come back and see more.

Visiting HCMC in one day from Phu My port is a challenge. Little time to waste after travelling. Evelyn was amazing at keeping us moving and packing as much as possible into the tight time frame. Her local knowledge was invaluable and we learnt lots along the way. Her English is excellent and she made us feel very welcome and looked after.

A perfekt day with Tom, the best Guide ever! He pick up us at Phu My Cruise Terminal. We have so much see 🥰 the best oldest Café with the three Sisters. Very delicious Vietnam Lunch 😍 Thank You, Tom 😘 Anja & Peter from Germany

This tour was the best we have ever experienced, because Tom our tour guide made it so. Tom wasn’t just a guide, he fitted into our group and gave us a tour and a flavour of Living in the city. His knowledge was exceptional, he guided us on timings in order to maximise the elements of the tour, took us to a typical Vietnamese coffee shop, a restaurant in the Michelin guide, as well as the prominent tourist spots and a market that to be honest could probably be a whole day trip on it’s own. Highlights are the War Remnants Museum ( a must see ) , the Cathedral , the old Post office and the Buddhist Temple, typical Vietnamese food and don’t miss the Vietnamese Egg coffee ☕️ 😁. Can’t praise Tom enough, he made the day and the experience. Good Luck Tom in all you do. 👍👍 Terry, Anne, Dave and Sue - Lancashire.

What a great city and country. Could not have asked for a better way to experience Vietnam for the 1st time. Tom from Maximus tours was the perfect guide. Tom and our driver, Mr Bing picked us up at port smoothly and we had a very comfortable mini van to ourselves for the day. We loved the mix of culture, sites, experiences and food. You see the authentic Siagon here efficiently, safely and the food, coffee and beer topped off the whole tour. We are definitely coming back to this county and will be looking up Tom!

We had a fantastic day with our excellent guide Tom. He picked us up at the pier and from pick up to drop off he looked after us, safely escorting us over the busy roads. For slightly longer distances we were taken by car as it was such a hot day. He took us to an ATM in a bank. He took us to interesting places and had excellent knowledge. We visited the oldest coffee house, the beautiful flower market, Chinatown, museum, Opera House etc etc. A wonderful day with an excellent guide and driver.

We had a wonderful day in Vietnam with Tap and his driver! We saw all the major sites and he even went out of his way to get us a banh mi sandwich, Vietnamese coffee and bowl of Pho because we requested it. We had a fantastic time and felt safe throughout. Would highly recommend Tap for any visitors!!

Anna was an amazing tour guide…very friendly and knowledgeable. She went out of her way to make sure we enjoyed our visit. We learned a lot…ate good food…visited the city highlights and overall had a wonderful day.
