We will take you to the summit of Mauna Kea to see the sunset and we will do stargazing afterward (not at the summit). Our most unique part is that our guides will take the photo of the sunset and stars for you using their DSLR camera.

All photos are free of charge and you will get it to your smartphone at the end of the tour.

Pick up guests from each pick up location starting from Target in Kona. Onizuka Astronomy Complex

Onizuka Visitor Information Station We will take a break at the Onizuka Visitor Center at an altitude of 2,800m or 9,000ft for early dinner and altitude acclimatization. We also change clothes for winter clothes here depending on the weather. Also gift shop is open for guests to purchase the items. (No food or drink sale)

This was a once in a lifetime experience. We rented a Jeep but opted to do this tour instead of driving ourselves and we are sooo glad we did. Our driver/guide James was the nicest, most accommodating, very knowledgeable and overall favorite Hawaiin we met. The Summit is amazing and the Stars are a once in a lifetime experience! We will never forget this trip. Mahalo James

We enjoyed this tour. It's amazing to be so high above the clouds with clear blue skies, after ascending from cloudy skies below. Beware the reduced oxygen at the high altitudes; it is very noticeable. There is a required stop at the Visitor's Center to acclimate a bit before going up. This trip includes a lot of driving to get there, and honestly the van was a bit cramped for 12 passengers. Our guide, Chris, provided a lot of information on the way. Recommend this tour on a night with a new moon. We had quite a bit of light pollution from the moon that affected the stargazing. Would also recommend that the company adds a pick-up/drop-off near the port for cruise passengers. The Target is just far enough away to be inconvenient (you can take the free bus to Target, but the buses aren't running when you get back around 10pm, so you have to Uber, or walk back to port late through sketchy areas).

Our guide James went out of his way to make everyone feel special, and ensured that we all had a great time. He gave us lots of interesting information about the telescopes and the mountain. Once on the summit he made sure we knew the best view points for pictures, and he also took personalized sunset pictures for us. After descending from the summit to a viewing area, James and Wes gave us an overview of the many stars visible in the night sky. The viewing ended with James taking personalized photos with the night sky as the back drop. We had a wonderful time and I highly recommend this tour with James

It is a nice tour. Elderly or kids nit recommended. Great experience. Wes the guide was very informative. He let you know what to do step by step. Good lunch and great views. Night star information was a huge plus.

I had an absolutely amazing experience on this tour! The views from the summit were gorgeous, and we were given plenty of time to walk around and take our own photos. A massive shoutout to our guide, Chris, who was incredibly patient and kind. I actually missed my initial pickup, but he went above and beyond to guide me to the next stop so I could catch up with the group. Throughout the trip, he ensured we got up and down the summit safely and even took plenty of photos for us. While we couldn’t see the Milky Way because the full moon was so bright, the trade-off was worth it. We got a stunning close-up view of the moon and were able to spot several constellations, including Orion. It gets quite chilly at the top! But, they do provide cold weather gear if you don't have your own. The tour felt well-paced with enough independence to explore. Overall, this was a fantastic trip!

Excellent tour and our guide was excellent very knowledgeable ,friendly and genuine. The view above the clouds is worth the price however beware of potential altitude sickness and how chilly it is. Also wish pickup and drop off at cruise port was an option.
