  Amazing Tour, Mike is the best, you can tell he is very passionate and knowledgeable and wants you to have the best experience possible, I was able to get amazing photos of all the locations, food was amazing, he even had a surprise at the end with local fruits where I was able to try a fruit I never heard of, just book the tour and have a great time, trust me you won’t regret spending your day on big island with Mike.

  Big Mike was the best tour guide we have ever had and we have had a lot. He grew up here and knows all the cool places. Treated us like family. You can tell he loves his job. Did a great job explaining everything, along with visuals as we road to each location.

  Mike did an awesome job. Our tour stops were very interesting and we had time at each stop to explore. We had an included lunch at a local place. Everything was great!

  I am in my late 50s & have done a fair amount of traveling in my adult life. I have booked plenty of tours in a variety of locations. The Best of the Big Island Tour with Lehua Tours exceeded expectations. While I thoroughly enjoyed each stop on our full-day sightseeing trip, the reason this excursion ranks so high was not because of the places we visited. The sole cause for it being my favorite was Mike, the tour operator/guide. He was outstanding!!! At the start of our day, just before climbing aboard his comfortable & clean van, Mike draped each of us with a beautiful, vibrantly-colored lei. A big thank you to his wife who handmade them! Mike grew up on the Island of Hawaii & is obviously knowledgeable about the land, history, & culture. However, it was evident he also did extensive research to craft interesting educational presentations on assorted topics. The photos he shared on the overhead screen in his van highlighted the subject matter quite nicely too. I asked several questions, & Mike further demonstrated his expertise & passion within his answers. Mike readily offered to take photos of us. He wasn’t charging for souvenir pictures. He didn’t wait for us to ask. I sincerely believe he wasn’t angling for big tips. None of that. Instead, Mike was freely offering to take photos for all his tour guests. It was a jam-packed day full of stops. Yet, we never felt rushed. It never felt like too much. On the contrary, it was perfect. Mike was accommodating & relaxed. He had a set tour planned but was flexible depending on the needs & wishes of his riders. The tour included lunch. Mike took us to his friend’s restaurant, Pi’Ilani Kitchen, where we each were invited to choose any entrée. The portion sizes & sides were very nice. The paninis were yummy, yummy!!! In addition to the stop for lunch, we had access to included water & different juices throughout the entire day. Mike threw in several unexpected touches. It had started with the lei, of course, but did not end there. When he spoke about macadamia nuts, he passed out sample packages of them. When we stopped at a beach late in the day, he surprised us with refreshing fruits (ones he secretly bought at the farmer’s market plus tangerines from his own backyard). We initially didn’t see any turtles at the beach, & in response, Mike went on a mission to find us one….& he was successful! Mike was kind, generous, & embodied the aloha spirit. He aims to treat all his tour passengers as friends, & boy does he hit the mark! In addition to Mike being exceptional, the tour itinerary itself was topnotch. The Lehua tour wasn’t even officially over, & I was already texting our travel agent to highly recommend it to her other clients. That was how much I appreciated our fantastic experience. By the way, too unusual not to note, there were absolutely no tip requests. Mike displayed no signs about tips being appreciated. Mike made no verbal hints. Honestly, this was quite a rarity in my experience. Furthermore, I notice seemingly small details of people’s behaviors (somewhat a product of my past career). Thus, I couldn’t help but notice that when other passengers gave him tips at the conclusion of our tour, Mike attempted to quickly hide the money in his closed hand….as if he didn’t want anyone else to feel obligated to give one. (Of course, we also happily gave him a tip…Mike definitely deserved a good tip for a wonderful day!) One last note (hope this is okay to post): Our tour was booked directly with Lehua. I was curious & asked Mike if that ended up better for him. Yes! The 3rd party tour operator takes quite a cut. Thus, I was happy our entire fee went directly to Mike for such a memorable day in Hilo.

  Everything about this tour was fantastic; one of the best we've taken. The tour guide Mike was a knowledgeable local that brought us to some really interesting places while providing us with great information. Some highlights of the tour include: 1. Stopping at multiple places in Volcanic National park so we could see all the vantage points as well as the lava tunnel 2. Lunch was included at a cute little local place 3. Stopped at multiple waterfalls, including Rainbow falls 4. Experienced the Hilo Farmer's market (get the shaved ice, it was amazing) 5. Stopped at the beach where Mike provided us with some delicious local fruit and also located some turtles for us to enjoy. Mike really went above and beyond on the little touches (lei, macadamia nuts, fruit, drinks). He has a wealth of local knowledge that he shares along with pictures and stories about the island. • Great tour with many extras and Big Mike!

  I highly recommend this tour! Big Mike was great! He was always courteous and accommodating to any requests. He was full of information and made sure we hit all the best spots, and even made a couple extras spots for a couple pictures! He made sure that the tour hit all our senses so we got a true feel for the island - all the sights, sounds, smells and tastes were great …even the feel of a steam vent in our face! He was always ready to grab our cameras and take great pictures! The local lunch was wonderful and he even provided some snacks and drinks. The 12 passenger van was very comfortable and great for this small group tour, it even had USB charging ports in the seats! Do not hesitate to book with Big Mike it was well worth it !

  This was one of the best tours that we have been. Very easy to book on line and good communication throughout the process. We were picked up by Mike who is a very knowledgeable and charismatic tour guide - being local to Hilo he knew lots of local information and and all of the best locations to visit. The tour was very well planned and he had thought of everything. The route was well planned and interesting The tour vehicle was comfortable and well equipped. We joined the tour from a cruise ship and were returned to port in plenty of time for the sail away.   Big Mike aka Big Mana lives up to that name! Took his tour with my family while visiting the Big Island and was just astonished by the amount of information left with due to Mike being very knowledgeable about the culture and history of the island and it’s people. Mike took us to the most beautiful sights that Hilo and this side of the island has to offer! Undeniably an unforgettable experience! Truly grateful for Mike and his hospitality and positive energy! We highly recommend Mike’s tour and we will definitely be booking a tour with him again on our next visit to the big island!
