Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
While most of the visit will be spent here! We will cover all popular stops with commentary. The following areas will be visited: Volcano House, Visitor Center, Kilauea overlook of the Halemaumau Crater, steam vents and sulfur dioxide banks, Kilauea Iki Crater, Laumanu Crater and Nahuku lava tube.
Hilo Farmers Market
The largest and locally grown vegetables and fruits are available in Hilo Farmers market that is conveniently located in the Historical Hilo Town. Guests are given an hour for lunch in this area full of restaurants and local shops.

5.00We took a day trip to Hilo from Oahu and had the best experience with Makaio Tours. Justin, our tour guide and the owner, provided a ton of information on the sights and we were even able to view Kilauea erupting. This tour was a the highlight of our trip to Hawaii! We highly recommend Makaio Tours!!

5.00This tour gives you a good volcano experience in the 1st half, then hits some other great spots around Hilo to round out your afternoon. The owner/operator Justin is genial, informative and professional - he really strives to show you a good time. His mini bus is very comfortable! And very clean ;)

He made everything fun and easy. The pick and and drop off from the Hilo airport made everything so convenient. Highly recommend this tour and Justin!

5.00Our day excursion with Justin was truly unforgettable! From the moment we began, Justin’s knowledge and passion for the Big Island shone through. We explored volcanic craters, learned about the island's evolution and eruptions, walked through lava tunnels, and witnessed natural steam vents and sulfuric gas sites. Saw a huge Banynan tree & Rainbow Fall! The views were absolutely stunning — a photographer's dream! Justin also gave us fascinating insights into the local flora, history of the island, and cultural landmarks, including the historic Robertson house. The stop at the black sand beach was a highlight, especially with the chance to spot sea turtles up close! We also visited a macadamia nut candy factory where we sampled delicious coffee and treats — a sweet bonus. Justin was full of great lunch recommendations during our stop in downtown Hilo, making sure we got a real taste of the island. He was incredibly accommodating, providing plenty of water and answering all of our questions with ease. A few tips: bring a sweatshirt (some areas can get chilly), and wear sneakers or Teva-style sandals for comfort during walks and hikes. This tour was packed with adventure, education, and breathtaking sights — and Justin made it all the more special. Highly recommend!

5.00Our day with Justin from Makaio Tour was unforgettable! This full-day circle tour of the Big Island took us to so many beautiful and diverse locations, each more stunning than the last. Justin was not only knowledgeable and just in every way, but also incredibly funny, welcoming, and full of great stories. His easygoing personality made the day feel like we were exploring with a good friend rather than a tour guide. He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable, entertained, and never rushed at any stop. We laughed a lot, learned so much, and came away with memories we’ll treasure forever. 5.00Wow, great tour today with Makaio. Justin takes to to some great places to see the Volcano, lava tubes, waterfalls, Hilo Farmer's Market, Candy Factory, Sea Turtle spotting and a visit to a Black Sand Beach. The whole way he is offering great insight, is super engaging and cracking jokes the whole way. We all agreed - he is a GREAT guide amd really makes the tour very enjoyable. He also recommended some great places for lunch! Make sure you tour the Big Island with Justin. You won't be disappointed! What a great time. 😊
