In order to best appreciate the bioluminescent phenomena our tours run at sunset and early evening and it can get quite dark in the mangrove canal. So, if you are afraid of darkness, a first time kayaker, or have small kids we strongly suggest taking the earlier, sunset trip. This way you can see where you are going, get use to the environment and sharpen your kayaking skills
Due to the immense popularity the Bio Bay tour, at times can get crowded. It’s not uncommon to meet up with other tour groups waiting to access the canal leading to the lagoon. There can be bumping other kayaks along the way.
Please keep in mind that this tour takes place in a natural environment and that the bioluminescent phenomenon, although rare, can be seen year round. The intensity of brightness is unpredictable and can vary from minimal to very bright suddenly.
SPECIAL NOTE: We encourage our guests to not reserve the tour on the same day of arrival to the Island, including coming from Vieques or Culebra. If the FLIGHT or FERRY is delayed and the guest misses the tour the guest will not be entitled to a refund or rescheduling.
TOUR TIME might change depending on sunset time. If so we will send a reminder for updated meeting time.
This tour takes place in the water. Expect to get completely wet. Wear clothes and shoes that can get wet. We recommend to bring a change of clothes and towel for after the trip.
Tour is not canceled in rainy days. We will get wet anyways ;)
There are public bathrooms on-site, but they are not always in good condition. You may consider stopping in fast food before getting to the meeting site or using the bathrooms from the nearby stores/restaurants which are sometimes available.
Certain time of the year great amounts of sargassum (seaweed) arrive to our coasts. This can make paddling to feel like a workout. Also the natural decomposition odor might be unpleasant.
Even if Viator system allows the guest to write weight over the limit, it will still be 240 lbs the weight limit.

We had Yadiel, Elí, Gio, David, Sandra and Aunoury as our guides for our trip and they all were phenomenal. They had good jokes and also taught us a lot about the science behind the bay. We went during a full moon so the bay was harder to see but they showed us the constellations instead which was very cool! All of the guides were fluent in English and Spanish so regardless of which language you speak, you will really enjoy your trip.

I like to start by giving high marks for Natalia and the staff. They were very engaging with the group and were very helpful in explaining how to kayak and the dos and don’ts and the importance of safety for other kayakers. Also, the about the history of the bioluminescent bays. In the past I have experienced the bio luminescent not in Fajardo but in La Parguera which was an amazing phenomenon and experience for me. My girlfriend has never been to Puerto Rico and she wanted to experience this phenomenon and was hoping that the excursion we did in Fajardo would have delivered. Unfortunately, it came up short and was disappointing. I will give my pros and cons about the experience: Pros: • It was not difficult to get to the place and the area was very lite up and there was other business that were offering other water excursions. • I appreciate Natalia trying to contact me to confirm that I was on my way. • I appreciated the staff explaining to the non-kayakers how to kayak and they would be available to assist if someone needed help. • The life jacket came with a whistle in the event a kayaker fell of the kayak or needed help. • The staff made sure that the group of kayakers stayed together in formation through the mangroves until we made it out to the bay. • We got to kayak around the bay enjoying the surrounding areas and the beautiful skies. Cons: • Because of the full moon and we reached the site, a section of the kayaks had to be covered by a large tarp to get a better view of the bioluminescence. • We got to see a quick flash of it under less then a minute to move the tarp to the other section of the kayakers. • I was not interested in knowing more about the sky, where the Milky way or the Big Dipper constellation was. • I am not sure what was the benefit of kayaking around the mangroves at night afterwards. • If I knew about checking the Moonrise Times moon time calendar, I would have selected one of the days to experience the bioluminescence. • The company Pure Adventure Corp should have given notice to the paying customers the choice on whatever day was selected that during a full moon or when the sky is bright, the likelihood of seeing this wonderful phenomenon will be limited and a tarp would have to be used. • On your cancellation Policy, it stated: This experience requires good weather. The weather was good; however, it was still too bright and the moon was out limiting our view of the bioluminescence. People pay good money from all over the world to come see this amazing wonder. However, on a bright night or full moon, they only get to see a sprinkle. I understand businesses need to make money; however, they should also deliver on what the customers are expecting and you guys came up short. I showed her you-tube videos prior to this event and again, came up short.

The experience was amazing! It was a very leisurely kayak out to the lagoon. The sights and sounds of the area was breathtaking. The guides were both hilarious and knowledgeable! Javier and Eli really know what they are talking about and make it super fun! David, Yadiel, the other Javier, and Catalina really made it great! I would recommend to anyone. I would also recommend going at 6pm. If you go to the later one, the other companies don’t have lights one there kayaks and it’s pandemonium.

Eli the instructor was STUPENDOUS and all the other instructors. He was the one that was helping me and Rebecca while we tried coordinating our kayaking skills. The kayaking was good but it was a bit disappointing that the bioluminescence did not occur. They covered us with a dark blanket so it can get really dark but even as you splashed in the water it was slight sparkles. The experience was cool but I wouldn't go again. For anybody looking to go, be sure to bring a change of clothes because you get soaked

Fun experience ... never kayaked at night! Tour guides were knowledgeable and very friendly & helpful. Was cool to see the bioluminescence. Just note - this is a VERY crowded tour ... many tour companies use the same "channel" and it can be difficult to kayak through - it feels like bumper kayaks at time. Having said that, the guides get you through it and it's was enjoyable none the less.

We are inexperienced kayakers, recommend going on the earlier tour (6:00 pm) so you have daylight. The guides were not very hands on. When speaking to the group they did not speak loud enough for entire tour to hear. The night we went there was no bioluminescence. The tour guides put a tarp over the kayaks and we saw a few sparkles, it was not worth the money spent for the tour and the transportation to get there.

We were very disappointed with the lack of any bioluminescence. We made sure to pick a time with a new moon that was supposed to show more of a glow. I don’t consider putting your hand in the water and swishing it around to see sparkles an experience. We probably had 15 kayaks in our group, which seemed like a lot considering it was pitch black. It was a good thing that our group of 11 from 8 to 67 were physically fit to be able to paddle against the current to get us back. It wasn’t easy. It would’ve been nice to have some sort of lighting through the mangroves to prevent getting whacked by the branches hanging down. We were also surprised we had to get wet up to our waists just to get into the kayaks at the start. Overall it was disappointing. We were told pictures would be emailed to us, but we never received them yet. It’s been 6 days.
