Bahia Bioluminiscente
This excursion is located on the island of Vieques, Puerto Rico. In order to participate in our tour, an overnight stay on Vieques is required. Vieques is a separate island off of the main island of Puerto Rico. You will need to take a plane or ferry from the main island of Puerto Rico to reach Vieques, and you will need to arrange separate ground transportation because you will not be able to bring a rental car on the ferry with you. Because we only offer tours at night so that our clients can experience the glow of the bay, even if you take our earliest tour, you will not be back to our meeting point with enough time to get on a ferry or a plane back to the main island on the same day. Our guides will meet you in Esperanza directly across from Rainbow Realty (278 Calle Flamboyan). Roundtrip from the meeting point, the excursion is 2 hours, time on the bay about 1.5 hours, weather permitting. We provide transportation from the meeting point to the Bio Bay entrance and back.

Our family of 6 along with others waited in a run-down van, legitimately falling apart, for our "tour operator" to put gas in the van and change the battery out before we even left to go to the location of the biobay tour. I would say for this advertised 2-hour biobay tour we were actually on the water for 30-40 min max. The kayak that we had had a broken seat so I was told to "use my feet" to keep pressure on the seat in front of me so my partner wouldn't fall back. The tour leader gave us so much unnecessary in-depth information, completely wasting our precious time to go experience the actual bioluminescence. I reached out to Viator 2 times regarding this experience, thinking a reputable company would stand behind what they offer but they denied me any sort of compensation. What a SCAM. I paid $390.00 for our family of 6. Finally, after continually emailing them, Viator refunded me a whopping $39.00 goodwill credit. There were so many other biobay tour operators there in Esperanza, I am extremely disappointed in our experience and would NOT recommend to anyone.

I loved it! Super cool, highly recommended if you’re ever in Vieques! The tour guide taught us a lot and we also had some free time to kayak by ourselves

It was a great tour, and headed off ahead of time. The ride was bumpy as we got to the end, but a fun one too. Our guide Arnoldo made the best of our time, telling us stories and fully answering any questions we had. It turned out that he had forgot the life jackets, but Mario, his coworker quickly fetched then in around 5 minutes. Going into the water was rough, with deep mud making it hard to wear shoes on the tour, but once we headed out onto the water in pairs, we forgot all about it. After going over how to row, we kayaked to the center of the bay, where we experienced the bioluminescent glow produced by microscopic organisms. At first it was barely visible but luckily clouds covered up the moon, and we were able to see it very clearly. After a race back to the shore, we headed back to our drop off, where we washed off and headed back

We had 2 local guides, both very friendly, knowledgeable, and hilarious! We really enjoyed the tour and they provided us with a tarp to better see the bioluminescence as the moon was bright. Would definitely recommend! Get ready to take your shoes off and be covered with a bit of mud while walking to the bay and getting on the kayak!

Leonardo was a great guide! Very informative and friendly. The van ride was a bit rough so if you don’t do well with tight spaces and bumpy roads, just be ready for it. But it’s so worth it!!! Great experience.

We took our 3 kids (ages 6-12) on the tour and had a great time! The guides were entertaining, knowledgeable, helpful, and accommodating. The gear used may not be the greatest, but it was a fantastic experience!

Incredibly beautiful and different experience. It is definitely a must see... You will definitely not regret it, because it is really fascinating. You should be aware that it is clearly best to experience when there is a new moon. You can't record the phenomenon with your phone, so it can just as well stay on land. Before you get in the kayak, you must go through a very muddy area, so be ready to take off your shoes before. Our kayak was full of water at the bottom, so we got wet. Fortunately, we wore the swimsuit. They write the tour lasts 2 hours. That's exaggerated. We weren't in the kayak for more than an hour. This is partly due to the fact that they were waiting for guests who did not show up at all and that we had to turn around for the life vests, which they had forgotten to pack in the car. The guide was good and competent and told thoroughly about the biological processes mm.

What an awesome experience! Danny was an amazing guide! The night was perfect for viewing, no moon and no clouds. The microscopic organisms were so bright and beautiful. We even saw the fish swimming through the organisms under our clear kayak. Danny was so knowledgeable and interesting. My sister and I learned quite a bit about these wonderful animals and their habitat. He definitely made the experience memorable. Puerto Rico is doing a great job protecting this natural resource. The most important thing to keep in mind is the moon phase.

The actual bioluminescence was great- 10/10. We had never done a bioluminescent tour before so it was really cool to experience. Everything else about the tour has room for improvement. The meeting spot was easy enough to find (basically a few guides clustered near a bus). Be prepared for a bumpy bus ride (not their fault) and for a bit of a chaotic start as there are multiple tour groups using the same bay entrance so everyone has to take turns getting into their kayaks. We really didn’t get much of a guided tour, the guide just sort of told us generally when to move forward and not to go out too far. We were maybe out on the water for maybe 45 minutes which didn’t feel long enough, as the coolest part of the tour is actually being on the water. Overall, would recommend the experience but just know that the bioluminescence itself is the star of the show and I wouldn’t expect too much of a guided tour.
