• Great guides, no luminescence

  The Good-The guides were great. They looked after their group well and helped them if needed. The Bad-The kayak trip was down a narrow creek with MANY fellow kayakers going in both directions. So if you are not great and practiced with kayaker, you will turn sideways in creek blocking creek. Plus should the water was only 3'-4' deep. So I kept hitting root covered bottom of creek. When we finally got to the bay, the guides gave us a tarp to place over our heads in the kayaks and asked us to put our hand in the water to see the bioluminescent. There were very small little bioluminescent material. Plus the kayaks were placed side by side. So placing your hand in the water was difficult. Overall the trip was not worth it. It was a lot of work rowing out to the bay just to see very little luminescence.

  I had a great time, honestly with all of my friends it was kinda chaotic but our tour guide Edward it was truly fantastic

  This was very disappointing. It was the most expensive and shortest of all the tours offered, but it was the only one with capacity on short notice. Now I know why. There were so many kayaks that there were traffic jams the whole way out and back and it felt like bumper cars at an amusement park. The staff seemed to be on automatic pilot - just going through the motions. We weren't paired with a guide so we ended up with whatever group was nearby. The main guide spoke so fast that we only caught a fraction of what he said, and he often spoke with his back to us or from the front of the line of kayakers so that those of us in the back couldn't hear him. Of the 90 minutes, we only spent at most 20 minutes in the lagoon observing the bioluminescence. I would not recommend this company - book earlier and get on a two-hour tour from another company. There are many options..

  Outstanding activity, beautiful lagoon, expert guides. I wish it would have been clearer to bring a change of clothes because you walk into the water to get into the kayaks, you must have shoes that can get wet, and less talking and more paddling ground the bay as the main event. Overall, really wonderful experience.

  The plankton were kinda cool. Problem was there were just too many people -maybe 80 kayaks spread across multiple tour groups all trying to paddle back through a narrow channel against the current. The ‘guides’ were chatting with each-other or on their phones as total chaos unfolded behind them. It was pitch black with strong currents in places. I could easily see somebody falling in or getting left behind. The lead guide did ask who had no kayak experience but didn’t offer those people any extra support. At times they did give instructions such as ‘left’ but nobody knew if that meant paddle left or move left ( so paddle right). My advice : sell fewer tickets for more money, hire better more engaged guides, account for differing skill levels, be more safety conscious.

  If I could give 0 stars, I would. “An organized tour is a safe tour” — this was anything but organized. The group was poorly managed, instructions were minimal, and the overall experience felt chaotic rather than guided. The tour guides came across as rude and, at times, completely unhelpful. When we did get directions, they were conflicting. Someone shouting "Paddle!" another one shouting "Stop! What are you doing?" The actual bioluminescence portion lasted approximately 3 minutes under a tarp, preceded by a very minimal, surface-level explanation about the plankton. That was the extent of the "highlight" of the tour. The website advertises "navigation lights," yet none were used. It was so dark that I had to turn on my phone flashlight just to see where we were going, which raises concerns about both safety and accuracy of what's being advertised This wasn't about expectations being too high, it was about poor execution. Disorganized, misleading in parts, and not remotely reflective of a well-run guided experience. Skip this and spend your $$$ elsewhere.

  This was not a safe experience. Only 1 out of the 4 guides were guiding. Getting to and from the lagoon was absolute mayhem. There were 20 kayaks and that’s too many. Once in the lagoon there were at least 4 other tour groups. You have to put a tarp over your head to see anything. The bioluminescence experience itself was 3 minutes tops. Save your money!

  This is not a bioluminescence tour. This is a kayaking tour in the dark. Do not expect to see bioluminescence in this area of PR. Read all of the fine print before signing anything. This company is a scam and a complete waste of time and money. The guides are rude and incredibly incompetent . They knew nothing about the mangroves and the only thing they did was bark at us to stay in a single file , which may have been easier if they your was completely not overbooked. $70 / person and kids ride with you. 2 miles in the mangroves, 10 min in the bay with NO bioluminescence. Save your money, go to the rainforest or a real Bioluminescence tour. If you just want to kayak in the dark then this is for you.

  Great experience and the guides were amazing! They do provide a place for you to keep you things when you’re on the water. They also provide bug spray. Highly recommend this tour!

  The guides were shockingly rude and disrespectful towards me before we even saw a kayak. I could not believe the complete lack of courtesy I received, and I was doubly disappointed as I had been looking forward to this experience and felt confident in booking a company with 4.5 stars in reviews. Upon reading the owner’s responses to other critical reviews, I can see now that this is the way Island Kayaking Adventure operates. Even the brief kayaking instructions were casually sexist. Steer clear, there are several other companies offering the exact same tour from the same launch to the same destination.
