I live in Puerto López and I am intimately familiar with the bird watching routes and the bird species that we can expect to see. I have experience in identifying the endemic Tumbesian birds species visually and by sound. Most bird watching tours identify 50+ different species.

Sandra Plúa was the best birdwatching guide I have ever had and I have experienced many. She tried so hard to find the birds and to ensure that I had good views. She knew where to find the birds and what to expect. Extremely knowledgeable, hard working, pleasant company and excellent English. I highly recommend her excursions. We had 2 tours, Agua Blanca and Isla de la Plata. They were wonderful!

We spent a few hours with Sandra, walking from the beach, around some wetlands and then up into the forest. 82 species viewed in total. We heard howler monkeys close by, but never got a sighting. The service was exactly as promised - prompt, and well organized. Sandra is enthusiastic, knowledgeable and has great tips and tricks for sighting all the beautiful birds of Ecuador.

Very interesting visit. We saw many birds both in the Ayampe River Estuary and on the Hummingbird Route. Sandra is very professional and a great expert in locating and identifying birds. We were also able to enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Ayampe River and the great diversity of vegetation in the area. The walk is calm, so it is accessible to everyone. Without a doubt, a highly recommended experience for anyone who loves nature.

Great experience spending the day with Sandra. She was very knowledgeable and we saw lots of birds along the shore as well as inland. Sandra provided the transportstion as well as a great snack which we enjoyed while watching the shore birds. We also received a link the next day showing all the birds we saw on our hike and their song. I highly recommend this hike!

Unfortunately we didn't get the chance as she didn't react to our email to make a reservation. We waited 5 days but still no reaction.

Sandra took us to San Sebastian on a guided hike. The area is part of Parque Machalilla and is a rainforest. She arranged for us to have a local family prepare lunch for us. Sandra did an excellent job from start to finish. She arranged our transportation, brought binoculars and boots for us to use, and even provided some snacks. She's extremely knowledgeable about birds and other wildlife too. We also saw howler monkeys on the hike. She also speaks English well.

Sandra is an incredibly talented guide and I cannot recommend her enough! We took several tours with her and every experience was amazing - we learned so much each and every time. She can customize the tour to focus on your interests and is able to lead tours in English or Spanish with ease. When we visited Agua Blanca, she helped us learn how to find our target species AND also included a visit to the archaeological sites so that we understood both the history and also the biodiversity in the area. She is a certified guide for Machalilla National Park and has expansive knowledge of birds, but also of cultural history, plants, fish, nature and archaeology. If you are looking for bird tours in Manabí or Santa Elena provinces, or for a knowledgeable bird (and underwater) guide for a visit to Isla de la Plata, look no further than Sandra and her expertise! ---- Sandra is an incredibly talented guide and I can't recommend her enough! Sandra is an extraordinary guide. Prior to our trip, Sandra provided prompt and informative communication that helped us to plan our trip to Puerto Lopez and Ayampe. In addition to setting up a tour with her, she helped us to make a reservation for a tour to visit Isla de la Plata (not to be missed, especially during humpback whale migration) and gave us additional advice about approaching travel in the area. As a birding guide, Sandra is knowledgable, passionate and skilled. She took us on a day long tour to Agua Blanca, a self-sustaining community made up of direct descendants of the Manteña civilization. Sandra not only took us on an outstanding birding tour through the area, but also gave us a tour of Agua Blanca's archaeological museum, where she shared a wealth of knowledge about the indigenous history of the area. Our tour with Sandra ended up being a highlight of our trip.

Sandra took us on a magical walk through an inland reserve and a mangrove lagoon near Puerto Lopez, Ecuador. She picked us up at 6:30 am and we were off! I'm not an "experienced" or a "fanatical" birder. Sandra started with where we were and helped us learn how to see the forests and the birds. She had a set of binoculars for each of us. She also had a pointer with a green light she used that took us near the bird(s) our own eyes did not track. Somehow Sandra was able to see them and share them with us. It was amazing to me to walk in the inland forest. First it was easy walking along the fire road. Second the vistas were stunning. There was layers of green amidst layers and varieties of bamboos, trees, flowers. It was as if we were walking by a primordial past. So beautiful to experience. The coastal lagoon was also much fun. When we got out of the taxi, we were greeted by a pair of roseate spoonbills flying into the lagoon. From that point on we saw varieties of heron and stork totally new to us and one species we described as "crazy" (not Sandra of course), because they swam in circles like bird whirling dervishes!!! We spent over 5 hours looking for, listening to and finding birds with Sandra. In addition to everything else. she provided us sustenance of a chicken sandwich, an apple and a health bar. She patiently answered our many questions. We learned about the indigenous community in the area, the trees, seasons, butterflies and many other things we asked about. It was a wonderful experience and I'll go again next time I'm in Puerto Lopez. And, not only was Sandra a wonderful guide, she also is internationally known. She is one of the May 2019 ebirders of the month. Congratulations Sandra!
