Birdwatching in Chingaza & Observatorio de Colibries.
Colombia is the country with the big number of birds of the world with approximately 1923 species including endemic, near endemic, migratory and permanent residents.
We will depart to Chingaza National Park (Piedras Gordas area) at the 5:00am. This incredible place is located only one hour and half away from Bogota. We will be birding here all the day exploring Paramo and moorland ecosystems at a altitude of aproximadly 2800-3400m.s.n.m. in searching for:
Near-Endemic Birds: Blue-throated Starfrontlet, Matorral Tapaculo, Golden-faced Whitestart, Coopery-bellied Puffleg and Black-billed Mountain-Toucan.
Typical lunch.
Afternoon: : Observatorio de colibries (Hummingbird feeders) in La Calera. The observation of birds in Colombia is fantastic and wonderful because you can find diversity of ecosystems and different birds according to the region of the country.

Parque Nacional Natural Chingaza
We will depart to Chingaza National Park (Piedras Gordas area) and Observatorio de Colibries in the afternoon. This incredible place is located only one hour and half away from Bogota. We will be birding here all the day exploring Paramo and moorland ecosystem. Birds: Hummingbirds, Coppery-bellied Puffleg, Bronze-tailed Thornbill, Glowing Puffleg, Longuemare´s Sunangel, Blue throated Starfrontlet, Tyrian Metaltail, Sword-billed hummingbird, Mountain Velvetbreast, Great sapphirewing. Endemic Birds: Silvery-throated Spinetail, Green-bearded Helmetcrest. Near-Endemic Birds: Blue-throated Starfrontlet, Matorral Tapaculo, Golden-faced Whitestart, Coopery-bellied Puffleg and Black-billed Mountain-Toucan. Other target birds: Andean Siskin, Black-headed Hemispingus, Rufous Antpitta, Noble Snipe, Black backed grosbeak, Rufous Browed Conebill, Eastern Meadowlark, White-chinned Thistletail, Scarlet-bellied Mountain-Tanager, Slaty-backed Chat-Tyrant, Plumbeous Sierra Finch and many more birds.
Observatorio De Colibries
You will visit the Observatorio de Colibries in the afternoon.

5.00Great birding! wonderful local food,Juan Carlos was our guide and did a great job. Door to door service. We did a second full day of birding with Juan to the wetlands and a second hummingbird garden location. Would highly recommend.
Chingaza National Nature Park will literally take your breath away.

5.00We had a great trip to the Chingaza National Nature Park, high above Bogota, including an overnight in a cabin in the park. Despite lack of power, and thus of heat or light, the night in the cute A-frame was comfortable and nice. They're working on the power - check status before you go. On the road to and from, we reached 3700 meters (12,150') with literally breathtaking views. We spent a lot of time in the distinctive paramo ecosystem, as well as sub-paramo and earlier and after cloud forest and tropical moist forest. In accordance with our preference, Oswaldo emphasized quality over quantity of observations. He seemed to know where to find every kind of bird, including on the way in at lower elevation. He was very active and effective in helping us enjoy the birds with a spotting scope, as needed. On the way out, we also visited the Observatorio de Colibries, a distinctly tasteful hummingbird feeding station site. Altogether we saw 35 species of birds in 2 days, as well as a couple of mammals (deer, squirrel). Unfortunately, despite Oswaldo and his colleagues (driver, local guide) extensive efforts, and quite a bit of fresh sign, we did not get to see the Andean (Spectacled) Bear. Some birders frown on the use of recordings to bring birds out of the bushes. We're not purists, and enjoyed that Oswaldo was particularly effective in that manner. I expect he would accommodate the preference of anyone that preferred otherwise. He was a great guy, very well informed and congenial. Altogether, a wonderful trip.

5.00Bogota Birding & Colombia Wildlife Tours. Great full day of birding with Oswaldo and Hermes. Both were very professional. They picked me up on time at 5:00 AM at my hotel in Bogota and then we drove to our destination. Oswald is a great guide and Hermes the driver (Hermes was into birding too and helped spotting birds). Very highly recommended!

5.00Oswaldo and Hernan were excellent guides and tailored our day trips in the Bogota area to suit our interests and abilities. We are long time birders and have some minor mobility issues as seniors but both men were sensitive to that with their recommendations and support. It was great getting to know them and in fact we found the Columbian people that we came in contact with to be warm and friendly. We visited two private hummingbird reserves owned by lovely Columbian people, were catered to with delicious meals and enjoyed interesting conversations about the birds. Highly recommend this birding group!

5.00I just returned from a fantastic hummingbird trip in Colombia with Bogota Birding under the expert guidance of Oswaldo Cortez, one of the owners of Bogota Birding. The trip was meticulously planned and flawlessly executed by Oswaldo. His friendly demeanor, enthusiastic attitude and impeccable expertise made the journey a pleasurable and total success. 5.00Hernan is a great leader for birdwatching in the rainforest and at a hummingbird sanctuary. He is well versed in flora and local history as well which gave a rich perspective of local culture and ecology.. Hernan loves to share birdwatching time with others.

5.00I had just 24 hours in Bogotá and really wanted to squeeze in some birding and see some paramo specialties. Bogotá Birding really delivered! Daira was super helpful and responsive by email and arranged a fantastic day of birding in Chingaza and at the Observatorio de Colibries with Leon Sanchez who was a wonderful, knowledgeable, friendly and professional guide with an encyclopaedic knowledge not only of birds but animals, plant life and ecology in general. His pride in his country and passion for sharing its amazing biodiversity really shone and made it a delight to bird with him. I was impressed by Bogotá Birding from start to finish and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone travelling to Colombia.

5.00I have never seen so many different types of birds in my life! This was an excellent tour from the enthusiastic guide, to the amazing birding, and the delicious meals. Everything about this tour exceeded my expectations. We got great views and photos of many of the endemic birds in this region; it was so exciting! I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in seeing the beautiful Colombian landscape and gorgeous birds.
