Villa Borghese
The best way for us to describe the Villa Borghese gardens is: As the keeper of the Villa Borghese Pinciana, I publicly declare: whoever you are, providing to be a freeman, fear no hindrance here; go where you like, ask what you wish; leave when you want. Everything you see was made more for the guest than for its landlord. In the golden century, when peaceful years made any thing splendid for the refined ones, the landlord forbade all iron rules for the guest. Let good faith be the only rule for our friend. But if someone, consciously and purposely, by wickedness and deceit, was to break the golden rules of courtesy, be alert, the angry keeper may break these friendly words on your head. (Latin inscription carved on marble plate at Villa Borghese).

Smallish museum but beautifully laid out. Going with a guide is helpful, especially if knowledgeable about art history. Carvaggio and bernini are well represented. 90 minutes is not enough time but the museum has timed entry and exit. We would have liked more time. Don't forget to pay attention and to the incredible ceilings and floors -- art in themselves. Well worth the visit and fee. 4 stars for lack of time and crowds even with timed entry.

Guide very good and knowledge. building, paintings and sculptures were exquisite and guide seemed to have all information about history and representation about Roman papacy to the discussions. Guide also shared he was not religious. It might have been the times but shared lots on some of how in the poor taste of papacy was reflected in art vs. selecting the Botteli painting in the room to discuss.

We had a wonderful guide and enjoyed viewing such an important and beautiful museum. I hope I have her name right, but I think our guide was Alexandria.

We went to Gallery Borghese based on recommendations for the best galleries to visit in Rome, and hence didn't know what to expect. Upon arrival, we met our tour guide - Mr Guidio, an elderly gentleman who is a walking, talking and living library of Italian art and history. From the start to the end, we followed him around the stunning gallery and listened to his deeply insightful, intriguing and incredible pieces of information that he shared with us at every step. His explanation of every major piece of art with his own understanding of the artist felt like a wonderful and exciting history lesson. Please do not miss this gallery and ask for the extremely kind and brilliant Mr Guidio!

Been to the Gallery before. First time with a guide, Mattia, who was wonderful. Hit the highlights but also pointed out smaller pieces and context for each room.
