Make sure that you start this tour hungry! It’s a great variety of Romanian treats and drinks and very worth your time. Bogdan was our guide and he made us feel welcomed and ensured we learned some of the history of his country, which you can tell he loves! Thanks so much, Bogdan! Hope to see you again!!

Six of us did this tour today with Michaela and it was fantastic! Genuinely the most we’ve enjoyed a food tour having done one in lots of places we’ve visited. The tour was an interesting way to see parts of Bucharest we probably wouldn’t have found, an Michaela was incredibly knowledgeable about the country’s history and the city’s architecture and much more, and was a pleasure to spend the day with. The food was all excellent (the six of us had differing views on the best stops which must be a good sign), and everything felt very generous- in fact we couldn’t finish the food for once in our lives! And to top it off we now know it’s a not for profit organisation, which we didn’t when we signed up. So we would highly recommend!

I feel so bad! Haha, that’s a strange way to start a review, but it was a cold day in February, and Alex’s other two guests had cancelled, which meant that I essentially got a private tour. Alex took me to get a pretzel, a traditional breakfast (cold cuts, spreads, cheeses with bread) at a cute restaurant, more local snacks at a market, a trendy restaurant for Romanian grilled sausages (line out the door the entire time we were there), a donut to finish off, and a couple of drinks and local transport included. The whole time, Alex was telling me all about local architecture, history, and culture. I had such a good time, and Alex deserves a raise, haha. He was very attentive to my needs. Again, I feel bad he did this all for me! Highly recommend!

Angelica was a delight and worked hard to make the fascinating and complex history of her nation and its capital come to life for a visitor from the US. She welcomed me with a warm preztel. We walked the Mahallas and visited churches at the center of these early neighborhoods. I learned about the history of the varied architecture along our walk through the stories of a resilient, innovative and enduring Romanian culture and people. In a visit to the Obor market I enjoyed the best skinless sausages, fresh pear and cheese with hot mulled wine. That dynamic market experience was filled with vibrant color, fragrance and tastes!! We hopped on a local tram to another neighborhood terrace and was served a platter of traditional cheese, bread, spreads, sliced sausage, pork fat and onion. There I learned more about Romanian culinary traditions and it tasted wonderful! Also paired it with a delightful glass of white Romanian wine! I highly recommend Angelica as a highly knowledgeable, kind host and fun guide for touring and tasting Bucharest… even in the winter!!!

I was the only person on this tour as I visited during the off season, but my guide Anjelica was fantastic! She was very personable, and knowledgeable about the city - pointing out the various kinds of architecture, the history behind each of the neighbourhoods we visited, and introducing me to the various kinds of food we tasted: how they were prepared, the contexts in which they are eaten, and good pairings for each of them. I particularly liked learning about branza de burduf, which is a cheese that is matured by wrapping it in fir tree bark! Anjelica adapted well in the face of adversity, as one of the restaurants we were going to visit was closed due to the holidays, but she quickly found us a replacement! Anjelica even advised me on some nice foods to try after my tour, and pointed out some good restaurants they were available at.

Angelica is a really friendly young woman who is very proud of her country and she explained so much about it and the capital city. She allowed the tour to go on much longer than advertised, which was most kind, as I was the only guest! I gained a good understanding of some of the buildings and plenty about the history of the area. The food was typical Romanian and plentiful: I even had to turn down some of it! Local sausages were great and there was the treat of a doughnut at the end.
