With Mysterium Tours®, spend approx. 2-hours exploring the exterior of the Buda castle district by night and listen to gruesome historical facts and the bloody side of Hungarian history in the XV-XVII century, and learn the myths of Vlad Dracula and the blood countess Elizabeth Báthory. Finally your Storyteller will tell you Hungarian folktales and vampire stories of the 19° century.
Away from the crowds of Pest, this informative and entertaining tour, guided by a professional actor in period costume, takes you to some of the charming, magical places of the city: the Buda castle courts.
This activity is an immersive storytelling experiences about legends, dark medieval history, tales and folklore.
The tour is more ideal for adults and youth. If you wish to bring your children, they can go for free (up to 6 years old).
Also note this tour starts from the bottom and temporarily includes a stairway leading up the castle district.

5.00The tour was great in fusing learning about history with Hungarian myths and legends. The tour guide had excellent knowledge and had a charismatic way of engaging people in his story telling. Great tour would highly recommend apart from those with mobility issues given the inclines in reaching the top of Buda Castle

5.00Booked this directly on Mysterium Tours website on the day of the tour just a few hours earlier. This last minute flexibility was useful. It was easy to book online and they had an easter offer to save 2 euros so I paid 18 euros which I felt was reasonable. The meeting point is mentioned before you book and it was easy to find in a central location. They ask you to arrive 5 minutes early although the guide Bernadette kindly waited an extra 5 minutes for any latecomers. She was friendly and welcoming. The tour lasted just under 2 hours and there is an average amount of walking but opportunities to sit down and to take the funicular if the steps up to the castle are too much. Its beautiful to see the city at night whilst hearing spooky, fun stories mostly about Vampires and some historical facts also. Bernadette was delightful, an excellent tour guide. She kindly offered to take photos and was happy to have a photo together also which was great. All in all I loved this tour, it was a fun way to spend the evening. I had read online it was nice to tip although she never asked or pressured. I was travelling solo and tipped 5000 huf as I felt she really deserved it for such a fun tour. Thank you Bernadette, this was a great way to spend my last evening in Budapest. It gets cold in the evening in March so pack layers and comfy shoes.

4.00Bernadette was absolutely wonderful. She is a very gifted story teller. The walk up to Buda Castle had several terrific view points to the city below, Chain Bridge and Parliament buildings. Overall, a great experience.

5.00So interesting and fun too. The guide was was really engaging and made everyone feel part of the experience. He was so knowledgeable and I don't know how he remembered all of the myths and legends. Great introduction to Hugarian history, amazing. The walk up to the castle and around the main sights was amazing at night. The views were incredible. Super guide and wonderful actor. I would highly recommend to all ages whether new to Budapest or a local. Thank you

5.00Fabian was awesome. He really brought the past and tales to life. We arrived and were welcomed by Fabian who was dressed perfectly for the style of tour, complete with lantern, top hat and very elegant coat. He was funny and very articulate with his English and made the group relax instantly. The group was mixed ages and walking abilities so he made sure that those that couldn't walk the steps were taken care of in getting on the funicular to meet us at the next point. The lantern was very helpful in keeping track of him in the dark as we moved through the grounds. He told some wonderful stories with humour, theatrics and audience participation (if willing). He not only told the history of where we were standing but also included some fantastical tales. When the tour was finished, he made sure that everyone knew where to go and that everyone who wanted to walk back to the starting point with him did. He was wonderful, a fantastic story teller and experience maker and also made sure everyone felt included and safe at all times.
