Budapest's first food tour (est. 2008!) introduces Hungarian food and wine culture through classic flavors, unique wines, history, and stunning architecture. You'll get a taste of the traditional side of Hungarian cuisine, and the modern artisan producers and specialty shops spicing up Budapest’s food scene. Beginning at the Central Market—Budapest’s cathedral of food—we’ll introduce you to Hungarian cuisine through the abundance of ingredients. We'll discuss the building, Hungary's eating and drinking culture, special dishes … and just what Hungarian cooks do with all the pork fat, paprika, and goose liver. Here we’ll taste a selection of foods (and have an aperitif to fortify us). After a lunch feast at a traditional butcher, we’ll sample the elegant cakes that Hungarian bakers are known for at a classic coffeehouse. We'll visit an award-winning chocolatier, and finish with a sommelier led tasting of 3 great local wines (including Tokaji aszú) paired with artisan cheese. Come hungry!

Our group tours are always small groups, limited to a maximum of 8 guests.

Central Market Hall
The Central Market Hall is Budapest’s cathedral of food and one of Europe’s largest and most spectacular indoor markets. We’ll introduce you to Hungarian cuisine through the great variety and abundance of ingredients (mostly local and seasonal) on display. We will discuss the spectacular building, the culture of eating and drinking in Hungary, the ingredients, the dishes commonly made from them … and just what it is that Hungarian home cooks do with all of that pork fat, paprika, and goose liver. As we walk the market aisles we’ll taste a selection of foods (and have an aperitif to fortify us).

5.00This was brilliant, Angela, our guide was super knowledgeable and we visited loads of different foodie places and tried all sorts of delicious authentic Hungarian cuisine that I would never have tried otherwise. Plus lots of history thrown in. Really excellent!

5.00There were 6 of us on the tour with Andras(Andy) and we all had a wonderful time. We had been on two other city tours, but Andy gave us a lot of new information regarding local foods and customs. We tasted many different types of local cuisine including several things we had never eaten before. This tour was a highlight of our time in Budapest and I would highly recommend it1

5.00I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone who wants to learn about Hungarian culture, history, and food, while also eating delicious and interesting examples of Hungarian food. I can’t believe how many different items we got to sample, first at the market and then at different restaurants throughout the city. Several samplings were items on my list of foods to try while in Budapest (langos, goulash, dobos torte), but we also got to try unique items I’d never have experienced if not for this tour. We actually ended up going back to two of the places later on in our trip since the food was so delicious! Our guide, Eszter, was very knowledgeable of both the food and Hungarian culture, answering all our questions, but was also very welcoming and friendly, giving us tons of suggestions on where to go while in the city. The sit down wine and cheese tasting at the end was the perfect finale for the tour.

5.00My mom and I thoroughly enjoyed the 4 hour food and wine walking tour. Our tour guide Ursula, was friendly and very knowledgeable. We ate our way through the Central Market, had a family style lunch at a restaurant, stopped in at a bar for a shot of Unicum, then on to cakes and coffee at a cukrászda (basically a dessert cafe), and ended with a wine and cheese tasting where we also learned more about Hungarian wines. It was a lot of food, but the walking over the course of the tour helped offset the fullness. I highly recommend this tour.

5.00We had a wonderful morning/afternoon strolling the culinary markets and streets of beautiful Pest. Elsa was the perfect guide with her passion for food and history. After tasting every part of Hungarian food culture we ended with a nice wine tasting paired with delicious cheese. It was a perfect day!!!

5.00We had a great time on this tour. Anna was a fabulous guide with a great knowledge of the history and culture of Hungary. The food stops were varied and unique -,starting at the markets and moving through an elegant and historic hotel cafe to a retro 70s communist era espresso house and the original ruin bar (a real highlight). We then went for a Hungarian wine tasting at their cellars. We’ve done many food tours and this was definitely one the best.
Very good food and wine tour of Budapest.

5.00What’s great experience walking to some local shops and tasting dishes along the way. I loved the amount of time spent in the Market Hall tasting and hearing about the food culture and history. Recommendations of places to eat along the way were given. Small group of 5 so it was easy to hear and ask questions. I’ve done food tours in the past and was so overstuffed to uncomfortable due to having your own dishes for each stop. This was shared small plates so you still got enough and were full at the end. We had a wine tasting at the end paired with cheeses. Highly recommend this tour, I would definitely do it again. One of the best I’ve been on.
