Bunraku is one of Japan's representative traditional theater arts for adults, inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It is a closely collaborative form which synchronizes narrative recitation, shamisen music and puppetry in performance. Featuring this outstanding unique style, Bunraku is praised as very sophisticated puppet theater arts in the world.
After a commentary, performance will feature "The Love Suicides at Sonezaki", one of Bunraku's greatest masterpieces. This famous scene will be performed as a new stage performance that combines two of Japan's proud cultures: Bunraku and Anime. The background animation will be produced by Oga Kazuo, who has served as art director for numerous animated films, including "My Neighbor Totoro", "Princess Mononoke" and "In This Corner of the World."
