Haedong Yonggungsa is a breathtaking temple located on the coast of Busan, making it one of the most unique temples in South Korea. Founded in 1376, this temple stands out from others that are typically nestled in the mountains, as it is situated right by the sea, offering a completely different atmosphere. The temple's name, which translates to "East Sea Dragon Palace Temple," is rooted in a legend that a dragon ascended from the sea to bring divine energy to the area. One of the temple's most captivating features is the harmonious blend of the temple's architecture with the stunning coastal scenery. To reach the temple, visitors must descend 108 steps, and as they do, they are greeted by a breathtaking view of the sea. Haedong Yonggungsa is especially famous as a prime spot to watch the sunrise, with many visitors arriving early in the morning to witness the spectacular scene of the sun rising over the East Sea, casting its golden light over the temple.

Our tour guide was great. He picked us up right at the ship, holding a sign with our names on. He then took us to Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, the UN Memorial, the Samik beach apartments, across Diamond Bridge, Gwangan Suspension Bridge and Gukje Markets which included a fish market. He spent a perfect amount of time at each and got us back to the ship at a good time (half an hour before we had to embark).

Our tour guide “Finn” met us as instructed at the cruise terminal as arranged. He was friendly, very well spoken and polite. We were escorted to a van with 4 other cruise passengers to start our tour to the Haedong Yonggung Temple and given some of the local history of Korea and Busan. We travelled the entire city throughout the day stopping for refreshments and visiting a famous Village located in the old part of the city of Busan. Lunch and time for shopping with visits to the largest fish market were highlights ending the day on a high note. Everything was planned and well organized, we felt the tour was excellent value and would highly recommend to any visitor to Busan. My only problem was it was sometimes difficult for me to hear as his voice did not carry far, but it did not interfere with my overall satisfaction.

Our guide Scott is a local with excellent English. He had a lovely warm & caring manner, including taking care of one member of our party with mobility issues. He took us to all the places we wanted to see &, if we return to Busan, we would happily go with him again.

Excellent tour with a very friendly and knowledgeable guide, nothing was too much trouble for her and she adjusted the visiting times according to the tour party’s requirements. She was absolutely brilliant and I would recommend this tour in Busan, especially if you’re on a first time visit and want to see the best of what’s possible as you may not know what to expect. The trip was fantastic value for money compared with the cost of the shore excursion being offered by the cruise company. They guarantee to get you back to the ship in plenty of time for departure and they delivered on everything they promised. Really rate aviator and will willingly use them again.

We were very concerned about the weather on our excursion day. However, our guide did an excellent job of making the couple of hours of rain a great tour. He carried us places that the weather would not be a factor. He was very informative and spoke English well. He met us on time at the cruise terminal and returned us 30 minutes before the (all aboard call.) Which many of us were getting concerned about the time. This tour was educational and very informative. There was not just a tremendous amount of walking but . It made for a great day in South Korea.

We went on this tour in April 2025 as our ship was in Busan and we having stayed in Tokyo 5 days prior. Roy was our guide for the day and there were 2 of us plus 4 others. Our first stop was at the temple on the coast where, no longer had we arrived, I had a nasty fall on the rocks. Roy called an ambulance immediately as I was cut in numerous places and had a badly damaged third finger. The hospital staff were amazing and whilst I was being attended to Roy came back to do some translation. He had left the other 4 guests to view the temple. My finger was dislocated and I had some really bad cuts on my hands and knees. However my finger was put back in place and after an hour and a half I was discharged. The others in our group were sat waiting in the air-conditioned vehicle which we were happily surprised about. We took Roy and the guests for a traditional Korean lunch as a thank you and had a great time. Roy even extended the tour so we missed nothing. Thank you Roy. You are the best and I would never hesitate in recommending you. We have 4 of our cruise guests doing a cruise in March 27 and I will be booking them this tour of Busan very soon.

Great! To put it in one word. Our guide “Mr.Thousand” (Chan) was wonderful. He approached us very sympathetically, spoke an easy-to-understand English, showed us hidden oases, of course also hot spots, told us a lot about his busan, was patient, super balanced, attentive, patient. We really enjoyed his town and the trip with him.

It was a six passenger van. We were a party of four. You need dexterity to be able to get in and out of the van. The guide was very personable. The shrine was fantastic as was the overlook. But you must be able to climb steps. We had a beautiful day.
