Caherconnell Stone Fort & Sheepdog Demonstrations
Caherconnell Stone Fort, situated 1km south of Poulnabrone dolmen in the heart of the Burren Ireland, offers you the opportunity to visit an exceptionally well - preserved example of the stone forts or stone ringforts which are to be found in the Burren Ireland. The fort is in its original state. Its position, overlooking virtually all-surrounding areas suggests a defensive settlement. Archaeological excavations take place each summer in association with 'CAFS' - Caherconnell Archaeological Field School- an International Field School accredited by NUI, Galway. As well as a trip to the Fort, visitors can also take in the Burren's Premier Sheepdog Demonstrations at Caherconnell, enjoying the combined skills of the farmer and the border collie as they work in the natural habitat of the Burren. The sheepdog demonstration times are available on our website

5.00We absolutely loved this experience! Our shepherd Aaron was great, he explained each demonstration in great detail and answered all our questions. The dogs were amazing, our favorite was silly Sally, and we got to pet the dogs and hold lambs at the end! Everyone was great and we definitely recommend this experience!

5.00Excellent, well-explained demonstration of sheep dog control by voice and whistle. Guided tour of fort and its long history really helped us to understand its significance and history.

5.00Very interesting tour. We’d done this tour 9 years ago and liked it then. We were impressed with the upgrades completed since our first visit. The sheepdog demo had been modified to include an intro to the various local sheep breeds which was interesting and we got to hold the lambs. So cute! The guided tour of the dirt was well done also.

5.00We were stayed in Doolin and decided to go to Caherconnell and we are sure glad we did! The sheepdog demonstration was fascinating, funny and an all around good time. We enjoyed the sheepherder, Aaron, and his commentary and insight. We got to hold the baby lambs at the end, which was a true delight. We then toured the fort, which was full of insightful information and also entertaining. Our guide, Ian, clearly enjoys his job and we all (ages 17-60) enjoyed our visit. I would definitely recommend this to anyone in the area.

5.00Absolutely amazing experience. Pat was incredible on the tour and explaining the history behind everything. The sheepdog demonstration was great, very lighthearted and interesting. Everyone was super friendly.

5.00Had a really enjoyable visit here with my children and parents. We arrived a d bad a lovely lunch in the café. We did both tours. They took around an hour and a half and both were great, informative and interesting. Would recommend
