Floating market – a creative way of trading that Mekong Delta people have been originating to cope with the dense network of rivers in this region. For centuries, the main vehicle for transportation here was boat, and the floating market was born to serve the high demand for goods exchange. Gradually, it becomes the signature image of the South West’s people and landscape. Visiting Cai Rang market floating in its most beautiful and active hour is the best way to experience the culture of the Nine Dragon River Delta.

We booked a private floating market tour with Mekong Smile via WhatsApp, and it was a great experience from start to finish. I did this tour together with my 4-year-old son, and everything felt very safe and well organized. We were picked up from our hotel, Legacy Mekong, at 6:00 AM. Life vests were provided on the boat, which was reassuring, especially when traveling with a child. After about a 45-minute boat ride, we arrived at the floating market. Our guide, Thinh, was excellent. His English was very good, and he explained a lot along the way while showing us daily life on the river. At the market, we enjoyed coffee and breakfast, which was a lovely way to experience the atmosphere. After that, we visited a local noodle shop and stopped by a local family to try some fruit. Thinh was very respectful, kind, and especially helpful with my son, which I truly appreciated. Overall, this was a memorable and authentic experience. I would definitely recommend Mekong Smile Tours, especially for families with young children.

The trip was absolutely fantastic. We saw some amazing, beautiful sights and tried some lovely handmade food, including fresh rice noodles and chocolate. The guide, Pi was absolutely lovely. The boat ride was fun and everyone was welcoming. This was by far the best tour I've been on in Vietnam. We had an extremely enjoyable time! 10/10!

A beautiful day from beginning to end. Kim Yen (Kylie) - our tour guide was on time for pick up at the hotel. The transfer to the boat took only a few minutes. By boat we went to the Floating Market where we had fresh coffee and soup. Both tasted very good. Along the way Kylie told us a lot of interesting facts about life on the river and the history of it. Afterwards we visited a rice noodle factory and were allowed to make rice noodles ourselves. After a detour into a small lateral canal we drove on to a cocoa plantation, very interesting and good samples. Later we went on to an orchard, where we were explained different tropical fruits and there was a tasting. On the way back we were allowed to climb aboard one of the larger ships of the floating market and taste this tour as well as fresh pineapple. Very impressive. Finally, we were given homemade jewelry and a bouquet of dried plants by our boatmaster. Kylie has given us a very nice day with her open nature and kindness, we wish her all the best for her future.

Great morning on the boat seeing the markets and rice noodle factory. Minh was an excellent and friendly guide who told us about the area and the delicious food that we ate. We also explored the canals. Our boat driver also made the kids some small gifts which they enjoyed.

(This review was written by responding to prompts in the AI tool; apologies if the flow doesn't sound right). A stop under the banyan tree on a small river to take pictures with hand made souvenirs by the boat captain; it reminded me of the "Kiss the girl" scene from Disney's The Little Mermaid. This particular tour took place on a smaller boat which allowed a more intimate experience versus larger multi-seats boats. This one was piloted by a single captain with a smaller engine and let you immerse in the slower life on the river instead of barreling through to the destination. It was fun to get a glimpse into what the life was like living in the Mekong; people making their livelihood selling goods, services, and fresh hot food on nothing more than small dingy sized boats; a life quickly disappearing as modern and larger land based markets start to become more popular in the area. The cost is a bargain compared so similarly priced tours, here was our particular experience: * 2 million VND (approx CAD $100) for two people which included: * pickup and drop off from the Sheraton Can Tho hotel (our hotel for this visit) * morning coffee on the water (a must for the early 6 AM departure) * a fresh hot bowl of soup on the water * a short walking tour to where they make the noodles for the said hot soup * and a safe and locally guided experience * officially 3 hours experience; Thuy and Aunt 8 were generous with extra time and we got to hang out and enjoy a longer experience It is a great price to value ratio! Be prepared for an early departure as that's where you get to see the sunrise while on the river. Thuy is knowledgeable and accommodated in multiple languages; as a foreign born of Vietnamese descent, being able to flip between Vietnamese and English greatly contributed to me fully enjoying the content. Our boat captain, Co Tam (Aunt 8), has been in the industry for over 50 years; a 75 year old lady who knew how to navigate her way around the river.
