Centrul Istoric Sighisoara
From Cluj, we drive to Sighișoara where we admire the most beautiful medieval townscape in the country, which is often used as a film set. We visit the Clock Tower, the Church on the Hill, the Citadel, the fortified walls and towers of the town, as well as the birthplace of the Wallachian leader Vlad Dracul, who later became known as Count Dracula in Gothic literature and film.
Brasov
During our tour in Brasov we'll see the historic monuments of the city. The main attraction is the Black Church, built in the 14th century in the Gothic style. Here we'll also find a large collection of Oriental carpets, which is unsual for a Protestant church.
Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle)
Afterwards, arrival at Bran Castle, also known as the Dracula Castle. The Bran Castle Museum is located on the former border between Transylvania and Walachia. Also known as the Dracula Castle, it was built in 1377 to safeguard the trading route between Transylvania and Walachia, enlarged and restored a few times since then. This castle is known as the homestead of Vlad Țepeș (Vlad the Impaler) and it’s the most visited attraction in Romania. The writer Bram Stoker brought the fame of the Dracula myth in our country at the beginning of the 20th century.
BREAKFAST
Breakfast
Buffet Breakfast
We visit the Peleș Palace, the summer residence of the Romanian royal family (and one of the most beautiful royal summer residences in Europe), a modern palace built at the end at the 19th century to resemble castles from the late middle ages, and the main attraction in Sinaia. Its generously furnished rooms host, among others, a fresco by Gustav Klimt.
Kalnoky Castle
Our next destination is the Kalnoky Castle, a 17th century countryside castle belonging to a family of Hungarian noblemen, built with a mixture of late Renaissance and neo-classic architecture and surrounded by a 19th century English-style park. The Castle is opened only on Friday through Sunday, on other days we will visit the village of Viscri and its old fortified church instead.
Village de Viscri
We visit a perfectly maintained saxon village. Away from the main roads, it seems like time stood still in the 19th century. We visit the house belonging to King Charles of Great Britain and also the old fortified church (UNESCO).

Overall, we enjoyed our experience. Unfortunately of the three castles listed on our tour we were only able to see two. Much of our time was invested in seeing other historical sites (which we did not request) as we were more interested in seeing the castles, hence, the name of the tour. Our guide did not take our desires into consideration when planning his tour. He also seem to be oblivious to the weather as our six year old froze most of the tour. On several occasions we literally stood in the rain as our guide gave lengthy explanations over the historical sites while we suffered at the hands of the weather. We believe we missed seeing the third castle, because of poor planning, and organization of our guide. However, he was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Transylvania. We did appreciate his wealth of knowledge, but would have rather seen more and heard less. We specifically booked a private tour so that we could see the castles listed on the tour as this was our goal as a family.

My partner and I had a wonderful time on this tour! Our guide Andrei was extremely knowledgable about the sites we visited as well as landmarks along the way and the history of the Romanian people. We went during a heat wave, and we appreciated his patience and enthusiastic energy (especially with how much driving there was!). We loved every landmark, but our favorite was Peles Castle with its extraordinary detail. The views from Bran Castle and the view of the Bucegi Mountains from Castle Cantacuzino were also incredible. (For reference, we went to Castle Cantacuzino instead of Kolnocky Castle because Kolnocky wasn't available on our day.) Highly recommend this tour!

An extremely rich variety of places and buildings to see and experience. Romania is definitely a country to see at reasonable prices. An arrangement that was organized in the absolute best way, thus my best recommendations.

Wow! What an amazing two-day experience! We'd been looking forward to this tour for a couple months, so when an emergency prevented our original guide from taking us, we worried that we'd need to forfeit the trip. But Christian quickly arranged for another guide, and we're so glad he did! We saw so much! We drove through rolling farms, quaint villages and forested mountains while visiting Transylvania's finest fortress cities, churches and castles. We saw Medias, Biertan Cathedroal, Sighisoara, Bran's Castle, Peles Palace, the Black Church in Brasov, and opted to see Sibiu instead of Kalnoky Castle. Adrian was our guide and gave us a thorough history and culture lesson of the Transylvania region and Romania in general. He graciously answered all our questions. He's a walking encyclopedia and very pleasant to travel with. The transportation was comfortable and the accommodations and food were excellent. The rates are very reasonable for all you're able to see, learn and experience. We highly recommend this tour!
