Founded in 1865 by the Grand Lodge of the State of Louisiana Free and Accepted Masons, the Masonic Cemetery expresses a character distinct from the Catholic cemeteries that dominate the city. It is known for its many unusual, elaborate tombs, a reputation due in part to the cemetery’s communal nature: members of lodges pooled resources to purchase large group tombs. Occupying two oddly shaped city blocks, the cemetery is triangular in plan, with Conti Street bisecting it. The triangular footprint of the bordering streets overlaid with the cemetery’s angular internal walkways mimics the Masonic emblem of the square and compass. Cast-iron picket fences enclose its two distinct sections, while oak allées line its northern and western edges. Tombs are compactly arranged in rows parallel to Bienville Street, with a wide, paved promenade cutting through the center to provide access to smaller walkways between rows.

We were excited to go as we were hoping to have a spooky experience. We had to walk to bar for the meeting place, which the bartender was great. Our tour guide showed up and he was great. He had a great personality, funny, engaging, etc. The first graveyard was too well light so it wasn't spooky but it was really cool to hear all about the history of the sites and the family traditions. As stated our guide was great. The second graveyard was okay but it was more columbarium's then tombstones. The overall tour was okay. Our tour guide made it better than it was.

Our tour bus driver was friendly, informative, and entertaining. We were very happy with all that we learned about the cemeteries we toured. The stop in the middle provided good snack, snacks and bathroom breaks. We ate dinner before the tour at the Voodoo Tavern and really enjoyed the food and drinks there. The staff was friendly and helpful. We highly recommend this cemetery tour!

Short on information. It was a BYOB tour, so I wasn't expecting much. Pick up pick was not a great place to spend time. On the positive side, our guide was enthusiastic and personable. It's like a movie with great actors and scenery, but no script.

So good! Roy was amazing. Great history, very interactive- you don't just sit on the bus & look. He actually gives you ghost hunting tools if you're interested. Only negative is that we had a reservation for 5 but the bus was overbooked so 1 couldn't go. Moral of the story: don't be last one on the bus.

The experience was very mediocre and the host didn’t make it exciting either. The cemeteries were beautiful but the lack of story telling or building a narrative to engage was lacking. I will not recommend it to anyone.

Not what we expected. If you’re looking for scary this wasn’t it. We were given a few historic stories which were interesting. But overall, it wasn’t the experience we thought. They blared music in the bus ride over. More of a booze cruise than anything else. Marcus was nice and funny.

Not impressed at all waste of money and time. Got a 5 minute talk at the graveyard then told go and explore. Then taken to a restaurant for 15 minutes. Then to an old oak tree where he spent most of the time talking about an ex girlfriend. On the bus it was loud party music and when one of the travelers asked for jazz he was ignored. So all in all I was very disappointed. The tour guide did say he didn’t tell us much but to go and do your own research

My mom and I took this tour and had the best time! Roy was our guide, and he was charismatic, full of interesting information, and a local! You’ll learn a lot about the burial practices and cemeteries while ghost hunting, which was more fun and beautiful (IMO) than a day time cemetery tour we’ve done in the past. Our group was not big, perfect size for touring around the city and haunted areas with others. Roy laid down some rules, and everyone was well behaved for BYOB. We definitely recommend this tour!

It was just okay. The guide was fun, but the tour itself was not as good as I was hoping in terms of time to wander around and stories and history.
