At Chacchoben mayan ruins you’ll be leaded by a professional local guide. We will walk in the jungle to explore and learn about the different structures of the mayan site such as: Temple 24, Plaza B, Gran Plaza, Gran Basamento, Los Gemelos, Las Vasijas and Templo Uno.
This excursion also offers the possibility to learn about local plants and observe some species of local fauna, including birds and spider monkeys.
At Bacalar lagoon the first place to visit is “Cenote Esmeralda”, where you’ll be amazed by the different shades of blue and understand why the Bacalar Lagoon is frequently referred as the 7 colors lagoon.
The next point to enjoy will be “Black Cenote” which is an open sky cenote and also the deepest point of the lagoon.
The final spot to explore is the Pirate Channel, as you’ll be explained that day, pirates used to enter Bacalar by using this channel to steal local precious wood.

Zona Arqueologica De Chacchoben
We will take you to the Chacchoben archaeological site where you will have a 1.5 hour guided tour with a native guide who will unveil the history of a Mayan city that flourished around 300 AD.
Lake Bacalar
The first glimpse you’ll have of this beautiful lagoon will as we get close to the coast from a hill. The first place to visit in the Bacalar Lagoon is “Cenote Esmeralda”, where you’ll be amazed by the different shades of blue and understand why the Bacalar Lagoon is frequently referred as the 7 colors lagoon. Our next stop is “Cenote Cocalitos”, home of stromatolites, that are known as living stones and are considered the oldest form of life in the planet. The third point to enjoy will be “Black Cenote” which is an open sky cenote and also the deepest point of the lagoon. It will be an amazing experience and a day full of fun and learning.

5.00We had such a great day! Unfortunately our cruise ship was late getting into port, so the first part of our excursion was cancelled. We did go to Seven Colors lagoon ands it was fantastic. Our guide was wonderful. He was very knowledgeable about the area and forthcoming with the information. Another guest specifically took this excursion because Seven Colors has a spot when the oldest living organism in the world is still thriving. Stromatolites. Wonderful excursion!

5.00Our combo tour to Chacchoben and Bacalar Lagoon was absolutely outstanding, and our guide, Juan Corona, made it unforgettable. At Chacchoben, Juan brought the archaeological site to life. His knowledge of Mayan history and culture was impressive, and he explained everything in a way that was both engaging and easy to understand. We didn’t just walk through ruins, we understood what we were seeing and why it mattered. After exploring the ruins, we headed to the breathtaking Bacalar Lagoon. Juan shared the fascinating history of the lagoon and its significance to the region, which made the experience even more meaningful. As if the views weren’t enough, he thoughtfully prepared fresh fruit for us to enjoy by the water. Such a refreshing and personal touch! He was also a fantastic driver, navigating the roads safely and making us feel completely at ease throughout the entire trip. If you’re visiting Costa Maya and considering this combo tour, don’t hesitate. And if you’re lucky enough to have Juan Corona as your guide, you’re in for an exceptional experience. Highly recommended!

5.00Top notch experience with professional and experienced guides. The Mayan historical sites are fascinating to see and the knowledgeable guide was very enthusiastic about explaining everything about them. The Bacalar lagoon was magnificent in its clarity and color and is a natural wonder to behold.

5.00Our guide Caroline was very knowledgable and fun to be around. She picked us up at the Cruise Port. There were two other couples on the tour. We were the first tour to leave so we beat the crowds to the Mayan ruins. Caroline also provided water, sodas,beer, and tequia shots throughout the trip. We then went swimming and boating on the Cenotes and finished with a fabulous lunch. Thanks Caroline for giving us a fantastic day in Costa Maya.

1.00CAREFUL!! The guide will give you plenty of TEQUILA when you are bathing in Bacalar, so you will not even realize that he will not take the tour in the Cenotes and much less on the “Pirate Channel”. The “lunch” consists of only 2/3 burritos!. For the high value, making the tour going to less than half of the seats is a shame!! That happened to me and my two kids!

5.00We had a great time with Juan on our Chacchoben and Bacalar Lagoon. After touring the Mayan site, we were treated to an excellent lunch and then taken on a private boat to see cenotes and swim in the lagoon. On the way out to the site, we even were able to stop and purchase fruit from the locals to enjoy on our trip. ADVICE: If you are on a cruise, when you get off your ship, make your way COMPLETELY away from the port and all of the shops / bars in the immediate area. It took us a while to determine we needed to go all of the way outside the gated area to meet our guide. Once we figured that out, it was smooth sailing from there and we were back in plenty of time to board the ship.

5.00Great alternative to overpriced shore excursions offered by a cruise. Well organized from the start to the end. Easy to find, smooth tour in a small group, comfortable vehicle, informative, friendly guide (Leo), professional driver(Manuel). A good variety of activities, child friendly, no stress tour, delicious food ( especially a choice of tacos in a local place). Tasty tequila on top of a great service! dont hesitate- book directly! Thank you Leo & Manuel!

5.00I participated in the combo tour and it was excellent value for money with Carol our versed tour guide explaining the history of the Chacchoben Mayan ruins and then a wonderful experience on the Bacalar lagoon. Everything was well timed and time flew fast without feeling rushed nor bored. A delicious lunch is included at a local restaurant and we were even served exotic fruits as our group waded in the beautiful blue shades of the Bacalar lagoon. I strongly recommend this combo tour to cover two of the main regional sites.
