Chacchoben Mayan Ruins is the most popular and visited attraction for a day in Costa Maya. It is approximately an hour drive from Costa Maya Port. This site is just a few kilometers from the village of Chacchoben from which it's name derive. The translation of the Mayan word "Chacchoben" refers to "The Place Of The Red Corn". The structures at this site are characterized by large temples and massive platforms dated from 700 AD.

5.00The tour company have a booth at the exit of the Cruise ship port. Use the cruise ship excursion exit for a shortcut to the parking lot where the tour company has the booth. Otherwise you will have to walk through the all shops to get to the exit. Our tour guide, Carlos, was very informative and friendly. this is a great tour if you want to see the Mayan Ruins.

5.00Our guide Huitsi was an amazing guide who was attentive and informative. Checked in on us , made sure we stayed hydrated and made stops to enjoy the wonderful treats of the locals. Carlos our guide at the ruins was hysterical and made sure it was informative and entertaining. The beach was not so great but with rainy season it was expected. But the staff and drinks made it a great expedience. We were a party of 5 with ages from 18-87 and we all had no issues with the excursion Note: climb the temple, the views are once in a lifetime

3.00Overall a pretty average experience. Felt the price was way too much for just an hr each bus ride and visiting the ruins as the bus had to pick up few more people on the way and had to do multiple transfers to get back to our location. for $450ish, felt like we could have done a private tour and visited few more places. Not recommended

4.00These are ruins which have been excavated in 1994. A lot of restored old walls mostly collapsed. You’ll see all the areas where the Mayans lived and get a good impression of the size of this little town. Oldest parts of the temple building is about 2,200 year but this is the inner core which you don’t see. The outer shell of the temple is about 700 years old.

5.00This was a wonderful trip to explore ruins and learn about the Mayan culture. The excursion was well organized and Elisio was a terrific tour guide. I was afraid it would be really crowded, but Toucon Tours got us there early and in a small group...very nice. I highly recommend this trip soon, before the Royal Caribbean "perfect day" developers move into Costa Maya and ruin this gem.

5.00Be sure to get clear directions on how to get to the back parking lot from the ship from someone as soon as you leave the ship to ensure you can find the location for pickup. We had a time trying to figure that out, but we saw one red cart with another company name on it and found the counter. The staff were amazingly kind and they provided water, or soda and beer if you wanted it. After waiting at the host location we started our adventure. Very kind driver. Once we made it to the temple site, we met Carlos Raul. Super informative, funny and proud of the heritage! We enjoyed him very much! Our only regret was that our tour is based on our embankment time and so we only had an hour on the site and needed to return for travel, but we enjoyed every second! Walking shoes are a must and be prepared for a climb if you want to go to the top of the ruin site. But wonderful! I like the integration of tech and information to help us visualize the temple sites.

5.00Eliseo Estrada was an amazing guide. He gave us so much information on the ride to the ruins, he was very helpful too. And Mary was kind enough to still give us a ride back to the port after we missed our bus at the beach.
