Chacchoben Mayan Ruins is the most popular and visited attraction for a day in Costa Maya. It is approximately an hour drive from Costa Maya Port. This site is just a few kilometers from the village of Chacchoben from which it's name derive. The translation of the Mayan word "Chacchoben" refers to "The Place Of The Red Corn". The structures at this site are characterized by large temples and massive platforms dated from 700 AD.

5.00Elisio, Gabrella and Daniel did a great job leading our tour. The ruins were great and very interesting. We saw monkeys and learned a lot about the Mayan history in America. They also arranged for us to stop on the way back to get some fresh fruit for snacks. Pineapple, mangos, and bananas were awesome. Then just a few of us wanted to go the beach area, so they arranged a van to take us to the beach area where we got some street tacos from a food cart and a drink from the bar on the beach. Would highly recommend toucan tours!

5.00It was a good experience, the bus was comfortable, and we enjoyed the ruins. It was a bit hot so some of our kids were fading by the end of the tour. Glad we did it, if you haven't seen authentic ruins they are worth seeing at least once. The speakers in the bus were a bit scratchy so it was hard to understand everything the tour guide was saying. Overall, great experience.

5.00Just writing about this now in June, but we took this excursion in early April. One of our biggest concerns was getting back to the boat in time because this was not an excursion bought through the cruise line, and if you're late they're under no obligation to wait for you. That ended up being no concern at all, because it starts pretty soon after the boat docks, and we got back with about two hours to spare before departure (note: we did not do the optional beach stop). Carlos was a good tour guide, the ruins and surrounding area were magnificent, and we even stopped for some road-side mangoes and pineapple which were delicious. Lots of water bottles were provided.

5.00We had such a great experience! Eliseo and Raul gave us a great tour and ride over. We learned a bunch and loved the beach stop.
Excellent tour. Friendly staff. Good transportation. MUCH cheaper than booking through the cruise line.

4.00So easy to book with them and saved us tons of money. Great tour. Guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The ruins were stunning. Because of time we were not able to visit the beach afterward, there seemed to be a bit of confusion with the driver and we ended up switching vehicles, but once we got going it was great. Such a good experience.

5.00We really enjoyed this experience! It was as described and better than expected. The meeting point was in the parking lot, at the red golf carts-- but it took us a moment to maneuver through the long shopping center to find the parking lot. Once we did, it went smoothly. We were warmly greeted, checked in, given unlimited water and put on an airconditioned bus to the ruins. Our guide was nice and helpful. We traveled with our three children-- who also learned a lot on the tour. We opted out of the beach excursion and were led back to the port with ease. I would highly recommend this tour!
