Chacchoben Mayan Ruins is the most popular and visited attraction for a day in Costa Maya. It is approximately an hour drive from Costa Maya Port. This site is just a few kilometers from the village of Chacchoben from which it's name derive. The translation of the Mayan word "Chacchoben" refers to "The Place Of The Red Corn". The structures at this site are characterized by large temples and massive platforms dated from 700 AD.

Sus aguas cálidas, son una invitación a pasearse todo el día nadando, recorrer el boulevard que esta lleno de tiendas para comprar souvenirs o simplemente relajarte y disfrutar los masajes frente al mar y probar los auténticos platillos de la gastronomía mexicana.

5.00We arrived to Costa Maya via Harmony of the Seas (RC). I was with my husband and 4 and 9 year old boys. I was honestly very skeptical about this tour - driving an hour into the country of Mexico without a cruise line provided tour made me nervous. The cruise line offers the same tour for well over $100 each, depending on the sale you might get, but typically it was around $147 each. That would have cost my family of 4 nearly $600 to attend. Instead I booked with this tour company for $50 each and do not regret it AT ALL! It was the exact same tour essentially without the cruise line mark up. We traveled about an hour in a nice coach bus. We did have to wait about 30 minutes while everyone from the different ships arrived (there were 6 ships in Costa Maya that day). We had a really great tour at the ruins with Juan Carlos (JC). We were there about an hour. My boys loved learning about the Mayan history - particularly the Mayan math. The park is really nice and well maintained. There is a gift shop, snack shop and bathrooms. We drove an hour back and felt safe the entire time. On the way back our coach us stopped for fresh fruit from a fruit stand. We didn't get off the bus but the girls from the stand came in and sold us fresh cut mango and pineapple for $2/3 a bag. It tasted like candy - perfectly ripe. Another hit with everyone. There was an optional beach stop on the way back, but we did not opt to go. We just wanted to get back to the port and explore and shop. I had read a lot of reviews about Costa Maya smelling bad becuase of the decaying barnacle that washes up - but I never smelled a thing. Maybe that is only certain times of year? It was a gorgeous 85 degree day - we were there in November - on Thanksgiving

5.00Great tour! An hour drive to the ruins, an hour at the ruins and an hour back to the port. Another few minutes at the ruins would have been fun. But overall good. The tour guide at the ruins was knowledgeable. Comfortable bus ride to and from the ruins…water was supplied for us. Good day!

5.00The drive was the longest part of the tour. Once you arrive there were snacks, fresh mangoes, and coconut for purchase. Our tour guide was wonderful showing us the ruins and giving us time to take pictures. Glad I booked.

5.00Enjoyed the tour and the site. Carlos was a great tour guide, knowledgeable, funny, and very enthusiastic to share more when we asked questions. Site is challenging for small children and people with limited mobility, as there is some steep climbing and walking around the area. Bus ride was very comfortable, Andres got us there and back safely. Went to the beach club after the tour and wish we had more time, 1 hour is not enough.
