Choquequirao is located in the Southeastern part of the Cusco city, between the department of Cusco and the department of Apurímac; this is a magnificent variant to know instead of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. In a long five days walk, mountains with variety of flora and fauna will be combined. The ruins have been cleaned today partially by COPESCO, the governmental institution responsible for the tourism in Peru. In the route to Choquequirao, climate is varied, from inter Andean warm zone, to forest eyebrow.
The Choquequirao name means “Gold Cradle”, and this city is considered, like sister of Machu Picchu by its similarities. Both are to 1500 meters over a river: Choquequirao - river Apurímac and Machu Picchu - Urubamba River. It was an administrative and religious center. It covers more than 8 hectares and only a single third have been discovered. The archaeologists discover more every day.

Was such an amazing experience getting to do this trip. Having Puma (our guide) made it easy to travel around confidently in a foreign country. He gave us valuable insights along the way and I learned a ton about the history of Peru and the Incas. The hotels we stayed at were amazing and very comfortable. Our driver Felix was a great guy as well and got us everywhere safely and quickly.

We had an amazing trip, Santu had everything under control and they made sure we had an unforgettable experience even under challenging conditions. Dany and his crew made us feel comfortable and safe at all times and they even had time to prepare a cake to celebrate my birthday, I won’t forget that detail.

We did the 7 day trekking through Choquequirao ending in Aguas Calientes. That is an awesome trek, the camping very comfortable, the food excellent and the guide and staff are wonderful people. Dany is more than a guide, is a friend that really loves his land and what he does, he loves teaching you on the road everything about the Incas, the faith, the tradition and even culinary secrets. You leave all the stress in those amazing mountains, though you have to be in good shape to enjoy it.

We were a group of eleven people, and the truth is that we all ended up delighted with the Service offered and the imposing landscape and site of Choquequirao. The guides were efficient, cared for the group in an exemplary way (there was a slight twist of a member, which was accompanied with a lot of professionalism, in parts they provided a chair mule, although he managed to caomnar most of the time). Walking times were well calculated, and resting places or camping were well distributed along the way. Clear slogans and guides who know your trade. Very interesting explanations, from birds to the Andean worldview, through recipes for Peruvian food and how to prepare Pisco Sour. We feel that in addition to everything else, we take a glimpse of Peruvian popular culture. Congratulations to Fisher and Nicholl, our guides for everything you gave us and what you helped us enjoy! Separate comment for Quality of food. It was excellent, both the variety and the quality of the dishes we prepared. Congratulations to the kitchen team! We weren't expecting so much, it was wonderful. In addition the cordiality of the whole team is worth noting, it helped in a lot to enjoy the whole experience. This corner of the Pachamama is beautiful and spectacular, from deep in the Apurimac Gorge, to the snowy ones like La Abuela seen in the distance. The changes of vegetation and climate during the tour, the games of clouds in the mountains, and the golden snap of reaching the huge Inka construction are something unique and difficult to describe. Thank you to the whole team!
