This was a RIP-OFF! They set up a desk next to our cruise ship and charged us a premium fee, but we were told lies. They said our tickets were good for 24 hours. We bought them at 1400 and were promised they were valid until the next day at 1400, but there was no service from the cruise pier the next day. They also assured us that the last bus would leave City Center at 1700. We were there at that hour but no bus, because they stop running at 1600! A bus came to drop off passengers but when we tried to board it the driver told us we would have to walk back to the ship! The next day we wanted to use the service until 1400 but no bus ever appeared. We paid over $90US for what amounted to a 5-minute ride. No ticket agent was there today to receive our complaint, so we’ll ask Trip Advisor to relay it for us: Beware the Hop On/Hop Off in Oslo. They’re liars.

After sitting on the bus for over 25 minutes and 10 minutes passed it’s leaving time, we were transferred to another busy for some reason which nobody explained. We set off and the commentary seemed to be at the wrong places, cut short then repetitive. I normally like to do a hop on bus when we visit a new place to get our bearings but I would not use this company again it was just a poor experience for the price.

Audio didn’t work, not interesting when it did, confusing that there are two bus companies with almost the same name and color scheme for their buses, most of the stops are cruise ship pick-ups, WiFi didn’t work, bus was not following the time table. If you solely want to use this option to get around the city then maybe it is fine, but you would be better off taking taxis/ tram.

Watch the last pickup time on the time-table for your season of the year. We misread the schedule for May and ended up with an expensive Uber back to Central Oslo

The tour is mainly a pick up bus for the cruise line terminals, the commentary is by a drawling American whose pronunciation was appaling added sound effects made the already difficult to understand script a waste of time. The city is very walkable and maybe a bus or taxi to the excellent Nautical Museum required. Don't bother with this tourers.

Absolutely dreadful Expensive and commentary that just wasn’t working When it did it was cutting in and out We were told later that the commentary wasn’t good downstairs We then caught another one later and this time the commentary wasn’t working One of the best things about HOHO is the information given about the city you are in In a culturally rich city I expected to know more about it after an hour Nothing ! Except that Norway has oil Get your act together

The audio guide doesn’t work on some vehicles. Using the app on my smartphone I couldn’t resynchronize it. Finally, the audio guide’s content is extremely sparse: when (and if) it works, it can only be used to find out where you are.

The hop-on, hop-off bus experience is excellent for those travelers who want to get an overall view of a city, with the option to dig into some specific properties. Not all of the sites along the route will be of equal interest. There were about twelve stops in Oslo. We started from a point at the cruise ship docks and traveled counterclockwise around the city. We hopped off at two points: the Vigeland Park and Sculpture Garden, and the Kon Tiki/Fram/National Maritime museum complex. The Vigeland Park is a very large area with water features and a cafe. The sculpture garden consists of many statues, all by the same artist, and all united in the theme of family life and relationships. The cafe was quite pleasant. There are three museums at the end of a road that terminates by the harbor. The Kon Tiki Museum is dedicated to the work of Thor Heyerdahl, the famous Norwegian explorer. In addition to the raft Kon Tiki, the museum includes his reed boat from the Aku Aku expedition. There are many interesting exhibits and videos. Across the street is the Fram Museum, featuring the Fram, the boat in which the explorer Fridtjof Nansen conducted expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic. Next door is the National Maritime Museum, which featured artworks related to seafaring and nautical life. There is an excellent museum store, which carried many books about the Vikings. Those two stops, with four separate institutions, made the hop-on, hop-off experience worthwhile.

We thought it was smart to buy a hop-on and hop-off tickets for one day. Specially there was a bus stop set up at the cruise terminal and we could easily get on. Via a QR code we can see where the buses were travelling so we can plan our city trip properly. Unfortunately there were only four buses that went through Oslo so the waiting times were at least 30 minutes. Often, the stop added extra waiting time because she wanted to distribute the buses over the entire route. The result was that we could only get off and board stop 1 and get off at stop 2 alone. Boarding at stop 2 was not possible because the bus was on the road too long and we were forced to take a taxi to the cruise terminal. My advice for visiting Oslo is, order an Uber taxi and visit the places you want to visit because that is much cheaper compared to four day passes at city sightseeing hop-on hop-off. Four day passes cost me $191 and you can make quite a few Uber taxi rides for that.
