I just got back from a 4-day Inca Trail hike with Chino. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We were 4 people in the group from different countries, mostly solo travelers who decided to embark on an adventure to discover Machu Picchu. I found Vidal Expeditions online, and after having checked their reviews on Viator and TripAdvisor, I decided to contact them. After some emails, we made a deal. They were easy to communicate with, and the booking process was quick. The night before the tour, I meet the guide and the rest of the travelers. We get all the detailed information from our guide, Chino. The first day they collected us from our different hotels and drove to Km 82, where we started our hike. The hike along this day is not very demanding; however, a previous day in Cusco to acclimate is necessary. Urbano provided us with all the information, and we visited some Inca ruins on the way to our next camp. Day two was the toughest during the entire trip. After breakfast we hiked up for several hours (probably 5 hours) through the steep trail. plus 2 hours down to our next camp. It was a long way up, but the views were worth it. Day three is the longest way, but with many rests on the way, this day we visited some archaeological sites, and each had great views, and it was unbelievable to understand how the Incas built those. But the hike after the first hour turns more enjoyable; it descends to the high cloud forests. On the last day we woke up super early in order to get to the Sun Gate for sunrise. The hike on this day is not difficult; however, the body feels exhausted. But the view of Machu Picchu does not have a price. We finally made our goal to get to Machu Picchu. After four days of hiking, 43 kilometers, more than 62,000 steps, 2 passes at about 4,000 meters, 3 nights spent in tents, and learning about Inca history, culture, and local traditions, this hike changed my life expectations. All these won't be possible without our master guide Chino, who supported each minute along the hike. A big thanks to the 7 super porters, 1 expert mountain chef, and the entire Vidal Expeditions team who made this trip possible. Recommendations! I highly recommend having extra days in Cusco to have better acclimatization. Bring some extra snacks because after the first pass, there are no shops until Machu Picchu. If you want to climb Huayna Picchu, book in advance due to the limited tickets.

Amazing Trip! we had four incredible days hiking to Machu Picchu through the Classic Inca Trail, the group was conformed with 6 people only, of course we have 12 porters an a chef. Our guide was Guillermo who did a great job leading us along the trek. We had a meeting a night before with Vidal and our guide Guillermo, these guys provided all the information what we need to know about this trek, Guillermo explained us very detailed every day. The first day was a gentle hike up and down following a path, we visited some Inca sites on the way. On the second day we climb up to the Dead Woman's Pass, 4,215 meters, it was really long hike... But we made it. Third day was mostly up and down but this was my favorite day due we stop along the wt to visit some stunning sites and descended to the lush forest. Day four or last day we hiked to Machu Picchu and had the first glimpse of Machu Picchu from the Sun Gate, we were very lucky with the weather which allowed us to get breathtaking views. Finally, we explored Machu Picchu and had wonderful time together. Our group was great, almost the same age and physical condition. Guillermo adapted easily to our peace and provided us with all the information (history, traditions and fun). The porters were awesome, they were very fast going up and down even with a huge backpack, they are definitely Inca descendants. Overall, I appreciate what Vidal Expeditions did for us during this four days, from beginning to end always looking after us. Highly recommend this local company.

We highly recommend Vidal Expeditions if you are planning to hike the 4 day Inca Trail. We were lucky enough to have a private trek since no other travelers had booked the same dates, and it turned out to be one of the best travel experiences we’ve ever had. From start to finish, Vidal handled every detail including airport pickup, hotel transportation, permits, and every piece of the trip so we could just show up and enjoy. Our guide, Edson, was incredible. He was knowledgeable, thoughtful, and made the history and culture come alive with every stop along the trail. His English was excellent, which made communication easy and allowed us to ask all the questions we wanted. The porters were honestly the heart of the trip. They worked harder than we could have imagined, carrying gear, setting up camp, and preparing hot, fresh meals three times a day. We are vegetarian, and the food they made for us exceeded every expectation. Every meal was filling, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared. Because of weather and trail conditions, our trip had to be shortened from four days to three. Landslides had closed part of the trail and several campgrounds. Vidal managed everything safely and smoothly, keeping us informed the entire time. We still got to hike into Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate, which was absolutely unforgettable. We were lucky enough to visit Machu Picchu twice, first when we arrived on foot through the Sun Gate, and again the next morning with a guided tour. Both visits felt magical in their own way. If you are planning this trek, here are a few tips. Bring altitude medication like acetazolamide (Diamox) and something for stomach issues like azithromycin for traveler’s diarrhea or Giardia. If you forget, you can buy both easily at any pharmacy in Cusco without a prescription. Bring plenty of small Peruvian coins for bathroom stops and small tips along the way. Wear real hiking boots, not just trail shoes. The trail can be muddy and slick, and boots make a big difference. I learned that the hard way. If you have time afterward, visit the hot springs in Aguas Calientes. It is the perfect way to celebrate finishing the trek. Most importantly, make sure to tip your porters well. We recommend tipping at least 100 US dollars per porter. They work incredibly hard and make the experience possible. We also recommend going later in April or May. We went in early April and had more rain than expected. The seasons seem to be shifting because of global warming, and the rain now lasts longer into April. Waiting a few extra weeks might give you better weather and clearer views. Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Vidal Expeditions took care of everything, and we are already looking forward to coming back to do the Salkantay Trek with them next time.

Had a chance to join a group to Machu Picchu through the Inca Trail last week of January. Our guide was Kevin, who did a really good job leading the group of 4 people. We were from different countries and never met each other before heading the Inca Trail. My adventure began when I contacted Vidal Expeditions staff a few months late in 2024; they gave me all the information I needed to complete my booking. From the detailed itinerary to the advice that was helpful to organize my whole trip. A day before the trip, they organised a transfer from Cusco airport to hotel; I did not expect that was included in my tour :) The guide met with me for the briefing and told me all the information for the hike. The first day I was collected from my hotel and started the adventure to Machu Picchu. It was not a very difficult hike this day; we walked for about 6 hours roughly from Km 82 to Wayllabamba. We had some stops along the way to talk about the Inca sites we had visited. The second day was the toughest, as we had to climb for about five hours to reach the Dead Woman's Pass (4,215 meters). then 2 more hours of hiking to arrive at our lunch spot and camp ground. Hiking on day three was longer but enjoyable because we had more stops on the way to explore different archaeological sites. Talk more about the Incas and the area. However, this day was pretty cool, even if it was longer. Additionally, we love our porters team (Juan, Cesar, Evaristo, Demetrio, Ernesto and 4 of them, which I forgot their names, and our incredible chef Miguel.) They made this hike a lifetime experience. Finally, on the last day, we hiked to Machu Picchu and had such an unforgettable experience after three days in the mountains. Machu Picchu was the highlight; however, the hike itself was more challenging and memorable. Hiking to Machu Picchu through the Inca Trail is one of the most beautiful adventures, even if this is challenging but worth it. And Vidal Expeditions and his team made this possible; appreciate it.

Had such a nice time hiking to Machu Picchu through the Classic Inca Trail, our guide was Guido, who did a really good job guiding us for the four days. They picked us up from our hotel early in the morning the first day. We drove to Km 82,, where our hike started. The porters team was incredible taking all the equipment for the entire trek. this day was not difficult as we took our time to hike gently and explored some of the stunning ancient ruins along the way. Days two was the toughest, as we had reached 4,215 meters and it took us 4.30 hours to get there. However, our guide and his team did an incredible job motivating us to complete this day; we had 9 porters and a guide in our team. Day three was the longest day during the trip; we walked around 16 km, but it was such a nice hike due to the pretty landscapes. We had some stops where we visited some Inca ruins on the way to our camp. Day four was the day to beat the crowds and arrived first at the Sun Gate to have such a nice view of Machu Picchu. And later we explored it. Honestly, the Inca Trail is without a doubt one of the best trails in the entire world. If you are planning to hike this trail, I highly recommend going with Vidal Expeditions; they care about you and what you need for this trek.

We had a wonderful time hiking along the Classic Inca Trail with our best guide, friend, and leader, Vidal, who made this trip a memorable experience for me. I had been part of a small group (5 people); it was the perfect size, and everyone in the group was of similar age. The agency organised everything for me, from the Machu Picchu ticket to the camping gear. I had included everything and was not worried about anything. Our guide came to meet with me at the hotel and provide me the entire details of what to expect about the trek. They collected me from my hotel on the first day; the transport was included, the guide, and a personal duffel bag with 7 kg was allowed the entire trek. Food was very tasty from beginning to end; they always prepared different varieties and cared about the dietary needs of someone in the group. I had my own personal tent for myself, which was great; drinks were included after the second day. The hike itself was pretty nice but challenging, especially the second day climbing up to 4,215 meters, but the views were worthwhile. The entire trail is completely steep going up and down with some slope sections, which makes it challenging for someone who feels vertigo; however, the views are incredible. That is why it is one of the best trails in the world. Recommend preparing properly for this trek due to the elevation, and physical condition can be challenging for someone who is not used to doing outdoor activities; packing smart also has great benefits. Honestly, I highly recommend hiking on this trail, and what a best way if you make a deal with Vidal Expeditions to organise your lifetime experience.

This was insanely amazing. The only advice I can give anyone is to get altitude ready and take altitude pills with you. The Inca trail is mostly a steady climb uphill for all except the last day after you reach the sungate. Views are spectacular and the guides knowledgeable. Be careful what you choose to pack as the Sherpas only carry 5kg for you. You must carry the rest and a backpack gets heavy rapidly, especially when you need to carry so much drinking water. Water can also be bought at various stages along the trail, but make sure you drink enough. Also take a few 1 and 2 sole coins for toilets along the way. The reward of seeing macchu Pichu from the sun gate is worth every step uphill!
