Colonia Roma
The tour explores Mexican cultural and historical identities, highlighting key moments in its development as reflected in 11 locations throughout Colonia Roma. The whole walk is exclusively in this fabulous neighborhood --with various stops being "not touristic" but fascinating from the points of view of architecture and/or cultural history.
Amazingly, this chapel is from the 16th century. The tiny town that formed around it maintained its identity until the 20th century. Perfect spot to talk about the origin of Virgin of Guadalupe.

If you want to get to know Roma in a different way, Gabriel’s tour is a great pick. He blends history, architecture, and music so you get both the big picture and the little stories that give the neighborhood its character. The music is especially cool, curated from archives to trace how Roma has changed over time. The practical side is also well covered with comfortable headsets, clear route, good timing, so the focus stays on enjoying the experience. Definitely recommend if you want something more layered than a standard walking tour.

Gabriel goes through much of the history of Roma, integrating its origins in la Romita and what it was to the indigenous people of the Valley of Mexico, all the way to its development in the 20th century. He emphasizes the contrast between large mansions, smaller residential buildings, and small commercial establishments. The music echoes many of the themes of the discussion and exposed me to lots of stuff I don't normally listen to.

The tour offers a fresh perspective on the history of Colonia Roma. It begins at the first Catholic church in Mexico City, accompanied by polyphonic singing from Guanajuato, and takes you through more than 500 years of history. Never before had I joined a tour where the guide could weave together references as diverse as Nobel Prize winner Daron Acemoglu on the history of tortillas and Walter Benjamin’s cultural reflections on the arcades. The walk concluded with powerful audio recordings from the 8M social movements. With this tour, you’ll gain deep insight into the musical, cultural, and urban history of Colonia Roma and Mexico. Highly recommended!

This tour is really good! Mixing history with art, social and political contexts, provides a much broader view of La Roma. Traditional stops are combined with unknown venues of tortilla makers and newspaper stands. Highly recommended!
