Ollantina cooks Jenny and Ruth have joined forces to teach Peruvian home cooking. Join one of these two teachers to prepare some of Peru’s most beloved dishes. The class begins with a quick tour of the colorful Ollantaytambo market where you'll learn all about local foods and how best to choose them. You will then head to the well-equipped Awamaki kitchen and prepare a traditional drink, appetizer, and main course to enjoy together at their table.

Learn traditional dishes of Peru with your cooking teachers and community partners, Jenny and Ruth. After meeting your guide and cooking teacher, head to the market to pick out the ingredients for your dinner. Then, head to the Awamaki office to make dinner. You will learn to prepare Rocoto Relleno (stuffed spicy pepper) or Papa a la Huancaina (traditional potatoes with cheese-pepper sauce), along with an appetizer and traditional refreshment, like Limonada or Chicha Morada, a lightly sweet purple corn drink.

5.00I am so happy that I booked this cooking class with Awamaki. It was really fun and a great experience. Melissa was the Awamaki liason and translator, and Tina hosted and led the cooking class in her home. We briefly visited the local market, then went to Tina's home and started cooking the delicious meal. Overall, a wonderful and very special evening.

5.00We selected this cooking class in Ollantaytambo based on Awamaki’s mission in the Andean communities but it well exceeded our expectations. Our family had a fantastic experience. Special thanks to Irma for taking us into her home. We enjoyed preparing the dinner then sitting down to the meal together. The food was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the company. Can’t recommend highly enough.

5.00Chef Tina is incredibly warm and we felt so welcome in her home. It was great to learn how traditional dishes are made and socialize while the meal cooked. Highly recommend fitting this fun and educational experience into your stay in the Sacred Valley (the location in Ollantaytambo is easy to reach from the other towns as well!).
